A beautiful canal side address to impress the epitome of style and understated elegance on the Canal Dei Greci with its famous leaning tower nearby. This really is the best of both worlds… less than ten minutes from all the must-see sights of St Mark's Square (including the Basilica, the Doge’s Palace and the Clock Tower) and yet right next to the quieter, more atmospheric neighbourhood of Castello.
Fans of Donna Leons fictional crime-buster, Commissario Guido Brunetti, will certainly feel at home here. The offices of the “Questura” where he works are a few doors away.
Ca’ dei Greci is an unusually light and airy apartment with lovely views over a wide canal - gondolas glide past and a water taxi can drop you at your front door. It offers spacious and classically Venetian surroundings for up to eight guests with four very private bedrooms, all with en suite bathrooms.
The main sitting-room has three double-height windows opening directly onto a balcony overlooking the canal, with a park beyond. It’s a charming, central room, very Venetian in style with an oriental rug on a traditional terrazzo floor, old mirrors and tasteful artworks.
The informal TV room to the side has huge, comfortable sofas, an upright piano for the musically inclined, air-conditioning and two windows also overlooking the canal. The dining room is a picture of elegance in which classic wooden cabinetry and the bold geometric patterns of the polished parquet flooring are offset by the delicacy of a fine crystal chandelier and pretty cane-backed chairs. If you fancy a formal Venetian dinner, this is the place!
The dining room looks out towards the Campinale of St Mark's which you can see over the terracotta rooftops. Next to it stands the white, light-filled kitchen which is fully equipped and features traditional terrazzo flooring plus a scrubbed wooden country style table for lazy breakfasts or preparing lunch or dinner.
There are four large and very tasteful air-conditioned bedrooms – three doubles and a twin - each stylishly presented with antique furniture, comfortable beds and beautiful wardrobes. The master bedroom has a secret door leading to its own hidden bathroom and canal views which are shared by the second bedroom. The double bedroom at the back looks out over a pretty, palm-filled garden and the twin is charming and roomy.
So – ideal for a large family or for couples staying together (and needing their own space), Ca Dei Greci is a Venetian home from home.
Space and relaxed grandeur in a fabulous spot
A short walk to the atmospheric Scuola di San Giorgio degli Schiavoni and its wonderful Carpaccio paintings, the monumental Dominican Basilica di Santi Giovanni e Paolo (one of the largest churches in Venice and burial place of no fewer than 25 Venetian Doges), and to Campo Santa Maria Formosa (site of the Querini Stampalia) passing Palazzo Grimani on the way.
And even closer to home - moments to the imposing façade of the cavernous Church of San Lorenzo (just visible from the apartment but now closed to the public, the church was the supposed resting place of famous Venetian explorer Marco Polo (1255-1324) before his body was lost during its rebuilding) and to the Museo di Dipinti Sacri Byzanti (Museum of Icons) just along the canal.
Also within easy reach of the local Punto supermarket for easy self-catering and to the vaporetto (water bus) stop at San Zaccaria for easy travel around the city.
Our apartment was absolutely lovely and in the perfect location. We were in Venice July 11-14, 2015 -- Venice was super crowded and the weather was very hot but we enjoyed every second of our stay in this lovely and wonderfully air conditioned apartment. Two families stayed there with 7 people and it was the perfect amount of space so everyone could enjoy their privacy and each other in the common rooms. We loved being in Castello as opposed to San Marco as it was less touristy and definitely less crowded. Walking was easy to major sites, restaurants, shopping, gelato, etc. We would definitely recommend this apartment to others and have already recommended it to friends.
Views On Venice provided the most wonderful apartment in Venice, as well as the best possible service in getting us situated. The apartment was even better than described, and the Views On Venice staff are absolutely top-notch. I cannot say enough how wonderful our stay in Venice was and how much that beautiful canal-side apartment and the folks at Views On Venice contributed to it! We cannot wait to return to Venice and would not hesitate to make Views On Venice our partner in finding the right place to stay.
This was a perfect stay for us. We had 3 couples so each had our own room and bathroom plus one bedroom extra we didn't need. Location is great and the staff are very helpful. Everything went without a hitch.
I looked at quite a few properties for an extended family holiday before I chose this one .
I have stayed in Venice several times but never in Castello.
The apartment was as advertised and very comfortable for 8 people ranging from 15 to 64 . We had everything that we needed for our stay and the property was well maintained and clean .
The small balcony overlooked a very quiet street with gondolas and other water traffic going past which added to the authentic Venice feel of the area .
We walked everywhere from our base and found it easy to use water taxis to reach Murano and Burano with our 48 hour passes.
The booking process was easy and I found the staff to be quick to reply to my queries and requests . We booked water taxis from the station and airport and then back to the airport and everything was arranged perfectly for us .
I would certainly recommend this property that is away from it all if you want it to be , but close enough to get to all the sights easily .
Beautiful place, 7 of us stayed here and not one of us could say a bad thing about the apartment, we all loved it, perfect location overlooking the canal, excellent service from the staff, even helped us find our friend who traveled from Spain, would definitely recommend it.
This was a beautiful and comfortable apt for 2 families with adult children, notable for the privacy the layout provided. 4 bedrooms off a central living room & dining room with 3 large bathrooms and a well stocked kitchen. We particularly liked the super sized Moka which let us make espresso for the group. There are lovely views in each room. The living rom is large, gracious, warm. Christina met us to hand off keys& orient us to the apt and neighborhood.. You can walk everywhere if you enjoy walking: San Marco, realto, academia, Guggenhei, to name a few. It was a perfect place for us!
We arrived in Venice after a very long day ...3 flights from Canada and 6 hours time difference. There were 7 of us including 2 children. My sister joined us a bit later. We so enjoyed the water taxi arranged by V on V. It was convenient, stress less and such a great way for a first experience in Venice. The apartment itself was wonderful. Very spacious rooms and we loved the windows/balcony on the front that looked down at the walkway, canal and 2 bridges. So Venice! It was really nice to have 4 sets of keys too. The locks themselves were all part of the experience. We didn't cook in the apartment but did have most meals there, lots of space and dishes etc. The location is perfect and not so busy as some parts of Venice. Great area to explore and we could hear the bells from St Mark's. We were pleased with the maps provided and the service was excellent. We decided to have a water taxi take us to the train station and were pleased to have that arranged for us ...so easy! I would not hesitate to recommend this place and company to anyone visiting Venice. Thank you so much!
