Casa Colón is perfect for the discerning traveller wanting an authentic experience.

It has been lovingly restored to make the most of its space and features. Casa Colón has a lot of personal touches offering guests a home from home within a historic old town in Spain.

It offers a living room with comfortable seating, table and good reading lights. The big window blinds offer a view to the outside but complete privacy from the outside in. Between the living room and kitchen/dining area there is a full height white wooden sliding door offering a natural partition for guests. There is a dining area with seating for two and a practical kitchen area. There is generous storage with extra shelving and a fridge with freezer compartment. There is a double bedroom with TV and a decent selection of dvds. The bathroom/shower room has a sink area, a washing machine, shelving for storage, wc and excellent shower. The floor throughout the house is quality antique wood parquet apart from the bathroom and shower area, which it is tiled.

Internet is available in the house for normal and limited usage.

Speaker for IPod/Smartphones.

The kitchen is functional with quality stone work surface and utensils. There is a two ring electric hob, a toaster, kettle, coffee maker, tea pot and cooking utensils. A microwave and electric steamer. There is a decent wine cooler.

If cooking on holiday is your passion and you are accustomed to a large, fully fitted kitchen, then please note that the kitchen at Casa Colón is neither of these although it still offers everything required for cooking meals. Most guests find, however, that the historic part of Tarifa offers such quality and diversity for tapas and eating meals out that cooking at home is not necessarily a priority in the heart of the old town.

The main bedroom has a double bed; quality bedding; hotel quality pillows and bed throws. There are good reading lights and lamps and a flat screen TV and DVD player with dvd library. Storage and hanging facilities for clothes. The bedroom is at the back of the house and very cool in the summer. The thick old town walls also make the interiors cooler in the heat of the day.

The fittings and decor are simple but quality, and easy on the eye. The wooden beams which run the full length of the kitchen and bedroom give Casa Colón its unique aspect and a real cottage feel inside, despite its obvious Spanish character.

The main bathroom is very generous offering a WC, shower cubicle and sink. There is a washing machine and shelves for added storage. There is a pull out clothing line in the communal patio belonging to Casa Colón and also areas for locking up cycles should guests wish to hire bikes locally.

About Jenny

I speak fluent Spanish and English. I offer Spanish language classes for guests and integrate learning Spanish with immersion in the old town and what it, and the surrounding area, has to offer guests who may want to visit regularly or even buy in the area. I offer property management services to owners who live away and want to rent their own property.

Having worked with Simply and Vintage Spain I put great value on offering guests a chance to experience the real Spain whilst they are in Tarifa and get to know something of what the Coast of Light has to offer. I can provide tailor made trips for guests looking for a non-tourist and authentic experience of Spain whilst they are at Casa Colón. I live in Tarifa throughout the year and am happy to show guests around on arrival so they can acquaint themsleves more quickly with what is on offer.

Casa Colón allows guests to experience the bustle and authenticity of the old town of Tarifa. There is still a community feel in the historic old town and I really appreciate all the local businesses I use on a daily basis. I support the small independent shops, cafes and restaurants and buy as much in the old town as I can.

What makes this apartment unique

Casa Colón sold itself to me because it is quirky and I love that it has no stairs. Its thick walls offer shade in the heat of the summer months. Neighbours look out for one another and I feel part of a community here.

Casa Colon offers the perfect get away for people who do not want to drive on holiday and want to be within easy access of bars, restaurants and beaches. Tarifa has a bustling nightlife and with so many great places to choose from for snacks and tapas and main meals, guests are spoiled for choice. The owner, who lives and uses the facilities in the historic old town, is happy to recommend and to show guests around. Guests enjoy a welcome drink upon arrival, so that they can relax while unpacking and get ready to try delights from the old town. Transfers are available from Gibraltar airport and can be ordered from the owner direct. Trips to local attractions are available. Prices and conditions are available on request. Good central location

The apartment was lovely. Comfortable and clean with everything we needed. Owner very helpful and on hand if required. Tarifa old town is great as everything is within walking distance and it is a typical old town in Spain. Can be noisy at times, as in any town in Spain, but as the bedroom in Casa Colon is at the back away from the street, it is less affected by people passing.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can recommend the apartment and Tarifa old town.

Owner's Response: Thank you for feedback. Good to know Casa Colón has a good setting for travellers to enjoy Tarifa's old town. Its central location means that guests can walk everywhere once they arrive. The town's beaches are a short walk away and there are cafés, tapas, restaurants and independent shops to visit throughout their stay. Guests who do bring a hire car, however, have the extra advantage of exploring the coastline up to Cádiz and inland as well but in the height of season, if it's just sun, sea and relaxation you require, you don't need to move out of the town.

Perfect find in Tarifa old town

A last minute decision and a great find in Casa Colon and its owner Jenny. Welcoming and comfortable, spotlessly clean and with useful extras for travellers, we thoroughly enjoyed the historic old town. Casa Colon was ideally situated for everything, especially the covered food market for a proper Spanish breakfast. We enjoyed great tapas, wonderful views from the town to Morocco and quality beaches all along the west side of the town. We will definitely return to this lovely apartment as it was the perfect place to stay and enjoy a true Spanish experience. The outdoor patio was handy for an early coffee whilst listening to the historic old town coming to life. We'll be back to discover more of this coast line and will be sure to contact Jenny about Casa Colon.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for the positive review. Casa Colon is well situated for travellers to make the most of what the historic old town plus the surrounding area has to offer. It is in a wide street in the town and gets the sunshine all day. The patio is communal but clean and tidy and little used by the other owners. It offers a place to sit and have a drink, with sun or shade, and enjoy the experience of living in a typical Spanish town. The apartment does not have any stairs, so good for people that find narrow stairs tricky, which are quite common in old town properties. The Costa de la Luz in general is a must for what is left of unspoilt Spain.

PERFECT LOCATION IN TARIFA OLD TOWN

Casa Colon is a ground floor apartment ideally situated for enjoying everything the historic old town of Tarifa has to offer. I enjoyed picking up freshly baked bread down the road then having my morning coffee on the patio. The apartment is tastefully refurbished with quality fittings and a lot of attention to detail. There is such a great choice of places to have tapas in the town that cooking was not really required but the kitchen at Casa Colon was well equipped and very clean. The whole apartment was very well presented and the owner, Jenny, ensured there were lots of extras and nice details making it very much a home from home atmosphere.

The beaches are a short walk away and they are impressive. There is a bike hire shop in the same street and lots of good walks straight out of the town. A car is not required if you just fancy chilling in and around the town.

I can recommend Casa Colon for singles or couples wanting to enjoy what's left of old Spain and some of the nicest beaches on the mainland.

Owner's Response: Happy to receive such a kind endorsement, thank you. Casa Colón is within easy reach of everything in the historic old town of Tarifa. The local beaches are minutes away and offer beach bar facilities as well as umbrellas in certain areas. There are several bakeries in the town and La Tarifeña offers a variety of fresh breads seven days a week along with a wonderful selection of cakes and Moroccan sweets. Tapas are very much in evidence throughout the old centre and Tuna is a firm favourite in this fishing town. Fresh tuna and a variety of fish are available from the covered market as well as a wonderful selection of cheeses and cooked meats at the market delicatessen. Organic fruit and vegetables are also available locally. Vegetarian tastes are well catered for by the Chilimosa restaurant, a must in the old town. Staying at Casa Colon gives travellers the perfect opportunity to sample and enjoy life in a typical Spanish historic centre.

Vi hade 4 fantastiskt fina veckor i Tarifa. Jenny (värdinnan) är en mycket älskvärd person.Hon hjälpte till med praktiska saker och var väldigt mån om oss. Vi fick massor av tips på utflykter och annat. Hon fanns alltid till hands om det behövdes. Beskrivningen på hemsidan stämmer mycket bra överens med verkligheten. Owner's Response: Thank you for the kind feedback. Casa Ambrosía, and Tarifa in general, are a good destination out of season. The weather in the autumn is mixed but for guests who do not like it too hot, the sunny days are perfect. The old town is less crowded and you can enjoy living in the historic old town like one of the locals, with everything at hand. There is always the option of hiring a vehicle during your stay if you come for a longer period.

Charming house in Old Town Tarifa

Great stay in Casa Ambrosia. The house is charming, chic and well equipped and Jenny, the owner, was a great host, providing lots of information on the town and surrounding area. Nothing is far from the Old Town. Huge beach, great for kite surfing. Lovely restaurants on the Paseo de la Alamedia and the area around Sancho IV El Bravo. The Castillo Guzman is well worth a visit as are the beautiful churches in the town. A little further afield (about a half-hour drive) is the coastal village of Bolonia, which has a great beach and incredible sand dune. Bolonia is also home to the Baelo Claudia Roman ruins where you can visit the museum and wander around the Roman village which is beautifully preserved. We enjoyed our time in Tarifa. Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your lovely review. Tarifa old town is very well served with places to eat, places to see and wonderful beaches. Also the surrounding area boasts great walks and, as with Bolonia is beach, there is a good mix of culture and beauty. Tarifa offers a place to chill as well as plenty of activity, including a visit across to Tangiers by the fast Ferry from Tarifa port.

Casa Colon is located near the entrance to the historic old town of Tarifa. Going through the Puerta de Jerez you enter what was the medieval stronghold enclosed entirely by walls and it is easy to imagine the time when Governor Guzman the Good sacrificed his own son to keep Tarifa out of the hands of the invading Moors.

Steeped in heritage with its cobbled streets and whitewashed walls, Tarifa still offers the old Spain, now lost in so many coastal areas of mainland Spain.

Tarifa is situated at the southernmost tip of mainland Europe, and with Tangier a mere 14km away across the Straits by fast ferry from its port, it is a gateway to another continent. Tarifa old town boasts a wonderful mix of excellent restaurants and bars to suit all tastes and budgets.

Casa Colon is located in a predominantly residential street and is minutes away from the indoor market which opens throughout the week offering fresh fish caught in the town's surrounding waters and available Tuesday through to Saturday mornings. The local Tuna is a great treat and is widely available in local restaurants as a meal in itself or in a variety of tapas.

The old town is a maze of streets leading onto terraces with tapas bars and places to just sit and enjoy the sun and watch the world go by. Many of the bars and restaurants in the town have WIFI and there is an excellent internet cafe on the main Calzada. The church on the Calzada is a beauty and has had a lot of restoration; its burnt orange dome a much photographed piece of local architecture. The castle itself is open to the public and a tour around it gives you the feel for the place as well as spectacular views across to the Moroccan coastline.

Jebel Musa, one of the pillars of Hercules, its twin being the much visited Rock of Gibraltar, is a beautiful land mark across the ocean and gives Tarifa a truly special outlook from its shores. The port aside, it is easy to access the beaches to the west of Tarifa town and they offer lovely walks as well as a quick getaway from the town itself without actually having to drive or use public transport.

Whale watching is a popular past time with visitors, and many of the bigger hotels along the coast offer horse riding from their stables. Wind and kite surfing have put Tarifa on the map and both sports are widely catered for with lessons available for all comers. Cycling is another popular way to enjoy the beautiful countryside or Campo in the surrounding area of Tarifa. La Peña is a wonderful area to enjoy a mountain bike as well as bird watching and walking.

Tarifa offers many small independent shops selling an array of goods including products from Morocco. Tarifa itself has a fish factory and many of its locally dried and tinned fish products are available in selected shops. As Tarifa has a very cosmopolitan mix, it caters much better for vegetarians and vegans than most Spanish towns. There are two main shops that sell all manner of organic products and specialist breads. Gluten free goods can be found as well as Tofu and a wonderful goat's cheese produced in Bolonia at just 18 kms away. Pan Macho is a great bread locally produced with natural yeast and available in most bars and cafes for breakfast with tomato and olive oil plus a wonderful coffee, something that the Spanish make with regular ease.

There is much locally grown produce from Conil, a town at 66 km away, along the E15 in the Cadiz direction. It is a lovely place to visit as is Vejer de la Frontera, on the way at 50 km from Tarifa just off the main coast road. Cadiz is one hour away and also offers a wonderful old town to potter around, with lovely parks and historical monuments as well as history and art museums which are open all week except Mondays.

For guests interested in Sherry, Jerez de la Frontera offers tours of their sherry bodegas with the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art offering shows of 'horse dancing' and a trip around their museum. Jerez is lovely for tapas and shopping, and although not as grand as Seville, it is a good alternative if time is not on your side.

The Alameda Park in Tarifa is where the excellent tourist office is situated and you can get all manner of information and maps from the helpful staff on hand. The Alameda leads down to the port and has an array of restaurants all south facing with sunny terraces for a drink or snack or main meal.

Tarifa has a decent post office and several banks/cash machines on offer. There is a health centre, decent physios, good dentists and sports massage available in the town.

Yoga, Pilates and several gyms are available.

Good bike hire shops.

Tarifa and the whole of the coast of light offer truly special sunsets, and there are several beach bars on the edge of the town where you can witness the spectacle of the sun going down whilst enjoying an aperitif in the sure knowledge that the next day will be just as sunny and warm. Life is sweet in Tarifa, so come and experience it for yourself

ONLINE via the Home Away dashboard: there is a service fee charged by the website not by the owner and if paid by credit card there is a 3% third party credit card company fee.
Guests can also make direct & secure credit card payments via Pay Pal. Pay Pal works globally and accepts major credit cards; payments are secure and arrive the same day. Please note that Euro Pay Pal carries a 2.5% processing fee outside of Spain but you do not need a Pay Pal account of your own to use the system. The Pay Pal fee is only payable on the amount sent at the time.
Alternatively deposits can be paid directly by bank transfer.
(PLEASE NOTE that on special rate weeks the cleaning/laundry fee of 35€ is not included in that weekly rate).
The second 50% balance + 200 euros breakages deposit is paid in euros when guests book in and get the house keys.
The 200 euros breakages deposit is returned within 72 hrs of guests' departure by bank transfer.
