An idyllic and magical week of instant relaxation! So much to do and see from the doorstep. Local store and great food at the local pub all within walking distance. We loved returning to the calm oasis after a day out exploring, to a drink of the balcony watching the tide go in or out and the sun setting.

The main house also offers a lovely sunny garden, which guests can enjoy upon request.

Spectacular views

I really enjoyed staying here. Extremely comfortable, thoughtfully planned accommodation in a lovely, magical setting. Bobby is a most welcoming but discreet owner. A wonderful range of walks from the door and good bus, boat and steam train services nearby mean that a car is hardly necessary. The approach by unmade track might feel a little tricky the first time but clear directions are supplied and it's well worthwhile.

A hidden waterside jewel!

Oh how we loved this place! If you’re searching for something a little different ... off the beaten track of mainstream popular holiday ‘havens’ ... then this oasis of peace, tranquility and spectacular views is definitely for you. Once through the village of Galmpton, the Spanish Boathouse is reached down narrow, winding lanes rising steeply as you approach your destination on the rustic quayside. Galmpton Creek has the wonderfully rugged, gritty feel of an authentic Devonshire waterside community – home of boat builders, past and present, with a history stretching back to the time of the Spanish Armada. Once at the Boathouse, Bobby your host, is very helpful but also stays discretely out of sight. The accommodation is well planned and comfortably equipped but the absolute highlight is the private terrace reached by the bi-folding glass doors. Choose to either curl up on the sofa and soak up the view from indoors or kick-back outside on the terrace with a glass of something chilled as you watch the breathtaking sunset. The quiet privacy and seclusion are rare treasures - we heard nothing more than birdsong and the occasional passing boat leaving or returning to the creek. The light on the water, ebb and flow of the tide and amazing wildlife are a stress-busting tonic. Your binoculars will be well used! The great location of the Spanish Boathouse meant we rarely used our car, instead walking the trails to the beautiful and atmospheric ‘Greenway’ (home of Agatha Christie) or taking the steam train to link up with river cruise system, which enabled us to explore the treats of Dartmouth and the surrounding area. A week at The Spanish Boathouse was just what we needed to recharge our batteries and I am absolutely sure we will be returning. Highly recommended!

Location

The ancient village of Galmpton is situated within enviable reach of Agatha Christie's famous Green way house (1.4 miles), which offers wonderful National Trust parkland and vistas overlooking the River Dart. Guests can also enjoy a day out on the Dartmouth Steam Railway, with its route passing through King swear, where a scenic ferry ride to Dartmouth awaits.

A holiday here offers a classic backdrop of glorious coastal countryside, which can be fully admired with a moment of bird watching, walking and sightseeing. A fantastic range of walking trails and the popular South West Coastal Path provides the perfect 'walk with a view' in Devon, whilst a host of beautiful gardens including Coleton Fishacre Garden (3.8 miles), Cockington (4.7 miles) and Greenway House (1.4 miles) set the scene for a magical day out.

The coastal scenery also includes reed beds, sand dunes, shingle ridges, mud flats, salt marshes, and the freshwater lake of Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve. This variety provides habitat for a diverse range of wildlife.
