Gorebridge House sleeps 22

Overview

Property

Updated: 08-Dec-2016
Serene retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life

The Gorebridge House is located just 9 miles from Edinburgh in 30 acres of stunning natural Scottish countryside. In the shadow of the Pentland Hills, it offers guests the luxury and serenity of a country retreat with the advantage of good transport links to the capital - only 30 mins away by car.

Ideally suited to large group bookings, whether for a family party, office function stag or hen do, the house sleeps 22 in the main rooms, with space for an additional 12 guests in four more bedrooms. More than enough space for guests to enjoy a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

The house has eight bedrooms on the first floor, 7 of which are en suite and one with a private bathroom. Each is individually decorated to a high standard with options to configure the rooms as twin rooms or king rooms. There are 2 family rooms on this floor.

The kitchen in found on the ground floor, at the heart of the house. It can comfortably seat 8 guests for breakfast, or perhaps children for tea time. With space to prepare a meal for the entire house, the kitchen does not pull any punches as the focus point for the house.

Across the main hall from the kitchen is the grand hall and dining room. The dining room with seat up to 22 people around the table to enjoy a cosy meal after an enjoyable day. The grand hall is a lavishly furnished space with a log stove as the focal point. Four comfortable sofas, grand piano and exquisite chinese rosewood locker add to the feeling of grandeur in this room.

Also on the ground floor, guests will find a games room and quiet room for their enjoyment. The games room contains the TV for the property, pool table and dart board and is popular with our party guests. The quiet room is just that, a place to escape and read, relax or unwind.

About the Manager

Your time off is precious. So when you go away, why not make an occasion of it and book somewhere a bit… different?

At Oliver’s Travels we don’t do ordinary. But if you’re looking to rent somewhere quirky, unique and bursting with more character than a bottle of ’59 Lafite Rothschild, weve got some stunning luxury villas for you to choose from.

Fancy a romantic weekend for two in a lighthouse, a week away in a converted windmill, or a fortnight relaxing with friends in the grounds of a French chateau?

We’ve got them all here at Oliver’s Travels. Each one of our properties is handpicked by our team to guarantee you a truly memorable luxury villa holiday. By booking direct with the owner from around £40 per person per night, you can experience luxury without burning a hole in your pocket.

Where did it all start?

In 2003, my best mate Ravi and I spent a week at Chateau de Cardou in the Dordogne with a group of our closest friends. It was one of those holidays you never forget. The chateau was stunning, the wine was flowing and the weather was pretty much perfect. Best of all, we had the whole place to ourselves.

As it turns out, that holiday was the start of something pretty special. Before we’d even got back to England, Ravi and I had come up with the basic idea for our first business, Simply Chateau: a website where people could find and book exclusive, luxury villas without having to shell out a fortune.

Location

From the Owner

Where are we today? We’ve grown a bit since then. We’ve now got a team of people who love travelling just as much as we do. Between us, we’ve handpicked every one of the properties you’ll find on the site. Our emphasis is still on quirky, lavish, one-of-a-kind places to stay, but we now offer villas, castles, stately homes, beach huts and cottages, as well as chateaux – not just in France, but across Europe and the Caribbean. You may have noticed we’ve changed our name too. Ravi took a bit of persuading, but in the end we agreed on Oliver’s Travels!

We are located 9 miles from Edinburgh, with all the delights the city has to offer. If guests do not want to drive into the city centre, there is a convenient park and ride service 5 miles from us.

In the more immediate vacinity, we have the villages of Bonnyrigg, Dalkeith and Newton-Grange. All offering the local pubs, restaurants and amenities associated with village life. Including the Sun Inn, an award winning gastro-pub which serves excellent food and delicious beers and wines.

Gorebridge is our nearest village with small village shop and pub, is near enough for guests to get to without the use of a car if the mood strikes.

The local area is full of things to do, for the more active, mountain biking and walking can be found in the near by Pentland hills, we have an excellent shoot about 10 minutes away by car and of course, the Scottish Mining Museum, which speaks for itself - and is very popular with our younger guests.
