Region:

About 45 minutes away from Lisbon, Tróia is a peninsula surrounded by 3 natural parks, with the sea, long sandy beaches and mountains enhanced in perfect harmony.

Tróia is a paradise that combines panoramic views with charm. Its unique preservation of nature makes this place an exclusive holiday destination in Portugal.

The white sandy shores and the transparent sea of this place will make you feel far away from everything and close to paradise.

In balance with and respecting the environment it's possible to enjoy a series of activities, ranging from sports to the region’s excellent gastronomy.

In the north coastal region of Alentejo is the Tróia Peninsula, installed on a sand dune, 17 km long and 1.5 km wide. It’s 45 km from Lisbon and its casino and marina and from an 18 hole golf course on the edge of ocean.

Archaeological investigations are in progress, so the Roman ruins are not yet fully open to the public. However, it is possible to visit the workshops of salting fish, baths, and the mausoleum that houses the 'Rua da Princesa'.

At the southern edge of the peninsula is Comporta, a village of just over 1000 inhabitants, a land of vineyards and rice inserted between the plains of Alentejo and the Atlantic shores. You can visit the 'Rice Museum' located in one of the old mills, see the threshing, winnowing and rice hulling and the cellars of the “Herdade Comporta”.

Continuing further south, we arrive at Grândola, a peaceful town in the Alentejo, located 40 km south of Setubal and the mouth of the river Sado, in the plains of cork oaks.

There are 45 km of white sandy beaches that stretch from Tróia to Melides

The Perfect Vacation House for Groups Large or Sma

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfectly set up for our large group of vacationers, which ranged from 14-21 people, including 9 kids. There are 6 bedrooms that have queen beds and bathrooms en suite. It is great to have a house where all the adults have equally nice rooms. There were 2 bunk rooms and a basement room with 5 beds that could sleep up to 7 children. This provided us with lots of flexibility for the kids.

The kitchen is large and well-equipped. There is plenty of seating for everyone, but also enough different sized tables that if there is only a small group, you don't have to feel overwhelmed.

We had everything we could possibly need for fun at the house. There's a great pool, furnished with towels, lots of lawn chairs and even some swim toys. The yard is big enough for a game of futbol or frisbee golf. The owners gave us access to a kayak which we used to chase the dolphins in the Estuary out back. We saw dolphins several times out back!

The house is located a few minute's walk or drive to the Atlantic Ferry that takes you to Setubal, which made day trips more convenient. There is an incredible Atlantic side beach 5 minutes away from the house, across the street in the Sol Troia development. There is also a snack bar there, which was nice for the kids. In the Troia development about 10 minutes away, there is a grocery store, good enough to feed our group.

Troia is located conveniently so that there were several outstanding day trips within 1.5 hour drive, including Lisbon, Sintra and Evora.

Overall, I highly recommend this house for your Portugal vacation.

Notes:

  • Lisbon, Portugal’s capital, a romantic and cultural city, known for its amazing light, is located over seven hills and bathed by the Tagus River. The picturesque and medieval streets of Alfama, Bairro Alto and Chiado, where one can hear the Fado at night, a unique synthesis of old and new, is a must. Splendid monuments, castles and astonishing sights “miradouros” keep you company every step of the way. Heading south across the Tagus river, Costa da Caparica, Serra da Arrábida and picturesque villages such as Sesimbra and Setubal are also worth a visit for their natural splendor. For golf and beach lovers, don't miss Aroeira with 350 hectares golf estate located on a natural reserve and surrounded by a stretch of 30 km of unspoiled sandy beaches backed up by dunes and ochre cliffs, considered the best in Lisbon region. In terms of gastronomy the Southern part of Lisbon is an area of the most freshly caught fish with an abundance of sea food.
