Beautifully Decorated + A Travelers Collection Of A Lifetime Of Memories

This propery is a delight from the moment you walk in .The Dining Hall with it's central round dining table and large colourful painted armoire, is the first room to welcome you , and after a long journey I think you shall find this room very tranquil. The kitchen although small is well stocked with large Fridge freezer, dishwasher etc. Saucepans,Ovenware -- and also copper saucepans if that is to your liking ?

The Salon is on the first floor and has large double leaded windows,, filled bookshelves, wall hangings and paintings. From here, there is a stairway to the gallery that leads to the second floor double bedroom - twin beds- also the entrance to the downstairs principle bedroom.

The studio is in the same building , but has a separate entrance in the garden near to the small pool so nearby for while'st using the pool or sunbathing , a shower or the w.c . The studio has a bedroom with twin beds and shower room ----- suitable for adults/teenagers . All of the bedrooms have w.c/shower/bathroom facilities and linen and towels are provided.

The Courtyard Private Garden is full of flowering shrubs, herbs , trees and plants which wrap around the elevated pool. New comfortable garden chairs and sun loungers have been purchased for this season.

The Studio maybe used for friends -short stay for a few days or if somebody in the family needs their own space ?

There is parking for one average sized car out side of the house .Otherwise there is parking nearby .

About the Owner

I have lived in and around Uzes for 24 years . My passion for France started in Paris - and I have gradually worked my way down this amazing country and have now come to rest in this fine little town . Which has been carefuly restored over the years beautifully - with a great respect for it's ancient buildings . St Sifflet is just a 5 mins drive away , where I have found this delightful village house which is loved and cared for by the owner who has filled it with her memories of the East / Far East yet stays inkeeping with this very French House with delightful walled garden and terrasses .

A delightful visit to St Siffret based at this house which is comfortable and elegantly finished.

We had a lovely time in this characterful and charming house. The owner entrusts visitors with her many precious books, rugs and artefacts which make the place a wonder. The photos on the website give an accurate impression and certainly attracted us; we were surprised at the previous comment, and would simply say that we found the pool perfectly adequate for a swim, and with a little imagination, perhaps including the use of the BBQ, one might even attempt dinner for 6! We found the kitchen quaint and perfectly good - a little flexibility is needed, that's all. The walled garden is overlooked, but neighbours are discreet and shutters stayed shut.

St Siffret is a quiet and peaceful place to stay, with a small store that caters for the essentials, about 2 km away. Above all, Shirley was on hand to give expert advice on the locality. Brilliant.

Interesting and individual

  • 3 of 5

We really liked this unusual house. The huge living area was lovely and filled with light, and the whole house is filled with objects from the owner's travels abroad. Although most of these objects as well as a lot of the books are from or about the Far East, the house still felt very "French". The bedrooms are a good size and the boys loved their separate room and bathroom accessed by the mezzanine level from the living area. The village is very pretty and there is a lovely view over the rooftops from the terrace off the living room. The village restaurant is to be recommended. We had a lovely meal there. The supermarket is about a 10 or 15 minute walk from the house. The village itself is in a great location just outside of Uzes and only a 40 minute drive to Nimes. Lots of pretty villages, markets etc to visit nearby.

On the negative side, the pool is really just a plunge pool, not big enough to be classed as a swimming pool. It's fine if you just want to cool off but if you want to swim it's definitely too small. Our children could jump in but not dive, and it wasn't big enough to keep them occupied for long. The garden is gravel with some planting and very pretty but the outdoor furniture isn't very comfortable. The tables and chairs are metal bistro types and your backside is numb after a relatively short period of time! There were some deckchairs by the pool which were fine for sitting in but sun loungers would be better for those wanting to take advantage of the weather. The agent, however, made a note of this to be forwarded to the owner. The kitchen is a very small galley kitchen with very little work surface, so if you like to cook it's not ideal. Also there is no oven, only a small microwave/combi oven which we managed more by luck than good judgement to cook something in as we couldn't find the instruction manual. The agent herself, however, was very helpful and no doubt these are things she will be able to sort out in the future.

One thing to take note of, you will need a small car to park outside the house! The road leading to it is extremely narrow with high walls on either side, and if the neighbour has parked outside his house you will need to reverse out. This was a very tricky manoeuvre! Bits of ancient wall stick out in places and there is a very narrow T-junction when you meet the adjoining street. Think narrow medieval and you've got the idea!

Location

From the Owner

If you want a reletively peaceful holiday , but be near to Uzes , on route to Nimes or Avingnon --- or in the other direction Montpelier and farther on the sea or the mountains St Sifflet is idéal . The house has many photos taken by the owner who is a photographer and journalist- who has spent many years abroad. The Bedrooms are large and well furnished . The salon is comfortable and overlooks the garden as do the large well furnished bedrooms.

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended

I ask Clients to call me when arriving in St Siffret or Uzes ,then I shall meet them to show the way to the house which is in the centre of the village. The house is away from any traffic noise and has a very pretty enclosed garden with shade and a pool to sunbathe next to .

St Siffet is a very charismatic village looking down over the countryside surrounding the historic town of Uzes which is just a short drive away, so ideal for those who like hiking or cycling . It was one of the first villages I explored when I moved to the

South of France . Ideal for a walk , jog or short drive to Uzes or other villages and sites in this region.

Although in the centre of the village the house is away from the main road in a quiet passage with parking space outside of the house - there is easy access to the direction for Uzes and St Quentin la Potterie with their famous twice a week markets -- as well as many other sites and villages in Provence , Le Gard and the Languidoc .

Facilities

From the Owner

The house and it's interior are unique in it's self . As indeed so is St Siffret which is an ancient hamlet with small lanes and glorious views of the country side around Uzes. The house has security with 2 bedrooms with ensuite water closets which are private with plenty of space between them. There is a good restaurant in the village which also shall be happy to serve you with a glass of cool beer or wine if that is all you need ( there is outside space to sit as well as interior ).
