El Palmar hosts a small selection of bars and restaurants, and for a wider choice of eateries and essential shopping the popular coastal town of Conil is close by with its own gently shelving beaches and coves - ideal for a short excursion.

Las Piedras is equally well placed for exploring the cultural jewels of western Andalucia; Cadiz, the oldest city in Spain; the sherry bodegas of Jerez; enchanting Seville and the Roman ruins of Baelo Claudio at Bolonia whilst closer to home one can sample the many delights of the white-washed, Moorish town of Vejer de la Frontera.

Gary Biston has over 30 years experience working in the travel and hospitality industry. Gary originally qualified as a chef, before moving into hotel management and the travel industry - working in Austria, France, Greece, Morocco, Colombia, Spain and her islands. Having worked in a variety of positions, in many European countries and Latin America, for both mass market and specialist operators - Gary has a well rounded background and understands the varying needs of his clients. It comes natural to him to try that little more, to offer better than the rest – a philosophy which became second nature whilst working for up-market companies like Lotus Supertravel Ski and Simply Travel. Whilst still living in London he was a founding Director of Simpson Travel and was instrumental in hand picking their portfolio of properties for their programme of distinctive villas and charming hotels in Andalucía, Mallorca and Morocco.

In 2004 he moved permanently to Andalucía where a month later his daughter Lily-Ana was born in Málaga. In 2006 his son, Oliver-Tomás, was born in Jerez and where his youngest daughter Sofia-Rose was also born in 2010; they live permanently in Medina Sidonia where the bilingual children are at the local schools. Having established his family in western Andalucía – leisure days are spent enjoying the endless beaches, the cultural treasures of the cities, the rural splendour of the national parks under blue skies and warm sunshine. He is fully aware that to maintain a positive future in Spain depends on loyal clients enjoying a wonderful holiday and wanting to return or better still recommending Andalucía Hideaways to all their friends and family.

One of the better value properties we have rented

Really nice villa ideally situated a short walk from the beach and some great restaurants. Well equipped, more towels than you could possibly ever need including beach towels. Lovely sheltered garden with privacy, pool slightly spoiled by the fence round it. With reference to previous criticism of the beds I didn't try the singles personally but my 6'2" son did and didn't complain. the double bed was large and very comfortable. If I had one criticism it would be the barbeque which is rubbish, it has a flat metal plate instead of a grille so you may as well cook your food in a frying pan, also it's construction means that it doesn't get very hot no matter how much charcoal you put on it. Other than that we would definitely return given the opportunity!

A wonderful house and garden close to the beach

We had a wonderful stay in this lovely house! It's a nice house, with a cozy garden and large pool. Well cleaned, fully equipped and easy to stay in for a little longer visit. (wardrobes to unpack clothes, lots of clean towels in bathrooms, space for food in kitchen, separete washing machine in outhouse) Three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The garden has an outside bbq and lovely places to enjoy your food or relax in sun beds. Nice pool with tons of toys for the kids. (And well fenced!) Outside shower by pool.

The manager Gary is very nice and super helpful! He really made our stay so much better! He knows the area and can make great recommendations and help to book stuff which makes things a lot easier if you don't speak spanish. He did everything from booking our dolphin tour with firmm (truly a memory for life!) and arrange massage and lunch for my husbands birthday at a hotel in a nearby town, to contact the house owner about uncomfortable beds which resulted in the owner buying new mattresses herself on a saturday morning! I can't praise him enough!

The house is within strolling distance to El Palmar beach and restaurants. Great surf! Closest restaurant is a surprisingly good pizzeria that has generous opening hours. (Most places closed when we as a family with small kids normally eat.) Strolling distance to restaurant casa francisco, recommended by the michelin guide - amazing food! Don't miss the tuna! (Especially the tartar and sashimi)

Las Piedras - pro: familyfriendly, cozy, good location, great manager, well maintained and cleaned.

Cons - a little worn down, beds not that comfortable (and all single beds are not really full length! They are not kids beds but not quite adult beds either)

I would definitely recommend this place!

Huis met fijne buitenruimte

Het huis ligt op een paar honderd meter van het strand van El Palmar. Mooie locatie met om het huis zelf een fijne buitenruimte. Het huis zelf is best praktisch, maar wel wat donker. Wij zaten er eind december / begin januari en dan blijft het binnen eigenlijk net iets te donker en te koud om er echt lekker in te verblijven. In de zomer daarentegen zal die koelte heerlijk zijn!
