The Gite is benefits from a large family room with super-king size bed, 2 x single beds and en-suite shower room. This is a large light airy room that can be divided buy curtains, separating the single beds from the double sleeping facility. Upstairs the old beams, cartwheel banister, large antique four poster bed, and en-suite has lots of unusual character and charm. The kitchen is cottage style and 2 tier with the upper tier being the lounge area. Outside there is a large round table for alfresco dining. This Gite is comfortable, and offers lots of French charm.
Character, charm and comfort in a tranquil setting await you. Maintained to a high standard and very well appointed in a lovely rural setting, gardens, swimming pool, fruit & walnut trees, flowers, field, fishing lake await you. In the summer we are surrounded by a mass of lovely sunflowers which is a spectacular sight. Local markets, fresh produce, fine wines, fabulous restaurants make this area a 'must visit'. Long quite roads for cycling, (for the extremely energetic cyclists check out the routes and kms on the Pays De Duras tourist website which offer routes to take), woods and tails for walking or horse riding, lakes for fishing and rivers for kayaking, petanque, boule, bocce and sun beds for the less energetic there is something for everyone in this unspoilt part of South West France. If you are a shopaholic then Bordeaux, (an hours drive) boasts the longest retail high street in Europe.
Having lived on the top of the beautiful Exmoor hills for the past 17 years, the damp, wet and mud gradually became too much. So on a mission to find a comfortable climate, sunshine, blue skies, good local produce, gastronomic restaurants and friendly natives we landed in Duras in Februay 2013 and purchased Le Petit Pourquet moving in 4 days before Christmas this year! Mad maybe, but definitely right, we feel at home in this wonderful area. We are not retired and work from home on line but have not regretted our decision to move to France. Yes there may be a few challenges with the language but hey all challenges can be overcome and what an adventure! We would love to share with you.
Tina & David Evans purchased this cottage in 2013
The situation of this property is rural with a scattering of lovely neighbours in the vicinity, which is comfortable for us. The views are spectacular as are the sun rises and sun sets and fabulous cloud formations. The property is well kept the grounds ample, with 5 acres of field for letting off steam, and a large lake stocked with carp for fishing enthusiasts. There are also 2 smaller ponds that feed the lake and have fish in.
The gardens have walnut and plum trees and are stocked with plants, herbs etc.
There are mature trees, and shaded pergolas for shade in the hot summer months. We also have a swimming pool for those that enjoy a dip!
The views from the property are stunning, and changes dramatically with the seasons. In Winter you look out onto vast areas of deep muddy furrows surrounded by clutches of woods and dotted with farms and buildings in the distance, in the Spring the skies stay blue longer, and the sun starts to warm the buds on the trees and the grass starts to turn vibrant green. In the summer the sunflowers that were sown in the furrows in the Spring start to take hold turning the countryside into a ray of golden yellow, the vines are green and the grapes are forming. Autumn the colours are changing again.
Our properties are warm, comfortable and well appointed, encouraging an atmosphere of relaxation and pleasure. We are animal lovers and have dogs, goats, donkeys and a pony all very friendly and very relaxing company.
5 of 5 starsReviewed 2 weeks ago for a stay in May 2015
We needed a 4 night stay and David and Tina were kind enough to accommodate us. What generous and delightful hosts they were. Tina kindly shopped for us as we arrived on a bank holiday and we also appreciated the thoughtful gestures of a bottle of chilled fizz in the fridge and delicious home made chutney to go with our cheese! The gite was charming, the beds were so comfortable and the bed linen (this is an obsession of mine) was top quality. We were made welcome by the family dogs and got to give the baby goats a bottle! David and Tina were helpful and kind and never intrusive. We would most certainly return and recommend this accommodation.

The Gite was just as discribed with everything you need for your holiday. While we were staying the weather was very hot, but the Gite remained cool and a very comfortable temperature, although the family cooled down in the lovely swimming pool daily.
We enjoyed the animals, especially the dogs who came to say "hello" everyday!
Tina and David are great hosts and very welcoming, and happy to share information on the surrounding area and places to visit. Unfortunately we were not able to take them up on their offers of evening excursions, but maybe next time!
A lovely area of France to visit and a great place to stay.
Wonderful property and great location as long as you like rural living, which we do! The location was great, 5 min drive to the lovely town of Duras with nice markets, bars & chateau. David and Tina were fantastic hosts who always had time for queries and the best places to eat and visit. The kids loved petting the donkeys and goats and of course, the pool. We were a family of 5 who would highly recommend this property. Only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that you have to drive for a night out (unless David gives you a lift!) we will certainly be back!
We had a fantastic holiday - we felt at home from the minute we arrived and it felt very odd to leave at the end of our holiday! David and Tina were perfect hosts - always on hand if we needed any advice but weren't at all intrusive. The gite was lovely - clean and well equipped and felt very homely. It is in a very rural location which we loved, however you do need a car if you want to go to the supermarket or out for something to eat. We spent most of our days exploring the local villages and towns by bike so didn't venture out to eat in the evening, instead preferring to cook at eat at the gite - we enjoyed many pleasant evenings sat outside drinking the lovely local wine, watching the goats and chickens wander around! There is a Monday market in Duras which we enjoyed, and the Château is also worth a visit. Bergerac is about one hour's drive away - a lovely town but we went on a bank holiday so there wasn't much open! If you are looking for a peaceful break in a beautiful part of France we couldn't recommend this highly enough! We are already planning our next trip...
We enjoyed our week here - beautifully restored accommodation, impeccably presented. Great pool and lovely outside area for enjoying the great surroundings.
Lovely attentive support from the owners, for whom nothing was ever too much trouble.
Duras and it's local area is truly beautiful, and a plentiful supply of great places to eat in the local area.
