The mountain gîte de la Blanche is located in an old farm house, dating from 1786, located in the hamlet of Puy-Aillaud, dependent on the municipality of Vallouise. It is the highest hamlet of this commune with its 1600 meters, and it is nestled on a promontory of the mountain of La Blanche (2953 m) which overlooks Vallouise. It is reached by a daily snow-cleared departmental road (chains essential). In winter, parking 100 m from the gîtes. Puy-Aillaud is inhabited all year round by thirty people, a farm is still operated there, and two restaurants run by locals await you.
A stone's throw from Sainte Anne church, this imposing building, an old farmhouse, with stone walls up to 60 cm thick, houses two apartment lodgings restored in 2011. Access to the cottage called "La Blanche", on the first floor of the building, by a wooden staircase overlooking the village square, and its windows overlook both this square located to the west, and its second balcony on the south, with a view of about thirty kilometers, going from the Col de la Pousterle above the ski resort of Puy-saint-Vincent (10 km) to Montbrison, passing by the distant peaks dominating l'Argentière-la-Bessée and Embrun. The width of this balcony allows a breakfast "as far as the eye can see". This cottage is perfect for two people, but its sofa bed can accommodate two more people. The balcony being common to the two lodgings (small separation barrier with the Montbrison lodge), it is possible to combine the two to receive up to nine people. A baby cot is available to tenants. In winter, the Pelvoux-Vallouise ski resort opens its slopes to you 100 meters from the gîte with the Télé-ski des Ajourdines and the Anémones piste which will take you back to a ski area of 1000 meters in elevation. Sliding enthusiasts will be able to push to Puy-Saint-Vincent which has around fifteen ski lifts, or Vallouise which offers cross-country ski rings. Finally lovers of snowshoeing and ski touring will have the whole Ecrins massif for them.
