A perfect historic country cottage for your Tuscany experience. Located in the triangle between Florence, Siena and Arezzo it gives you convenient access to the three cities and the stunning Chianti country side.At the time of the Renaissance in Tuscany, wealthy noble families began to cultivate lemon trees after finding that lemons were essential in preventing scurvy, one of the major scourges of the era. They built special structures (in Italian: "limonáia") to protect their precious plants from the winter cold.
The Limonaia is part of the complex of buildings making up the historic mill of Pogi (Il Mulino di Pogi), which dates back to the 1400. The Mulino property is situated in a tranquil and secluded bend in the river Ambra. The Limonaia, situated 150 meters from the main villa, offers a very special type of antique Tuscan charm in a completely renovated structure. You will find absolute privacy from the world yet be only a short and pleasant drive from the fortified cities of Siena and Arezzo (30 minutes) or Florence (45 minutes).
The Limonaia, which traces its origins to the middle of the 1600's, offers marvelous views of the grounds and the Ambra River from its eight ample arched windows located on each side of the building. Home to numerous species of rare aquatic birds and ancient oak trees, the Mulino di Pogi property is a paradise for bird watchers, sport fishermen, and nature enthusiasts.
Meticulously restored with the same materials used in the original construction, the Limonaia di Pogi offers historic atmosphere with modern comfort. Built on a terraced slope, the Limonaia has two levels: upstairs hosts a bright living/dining area with hard wood floors, fireplace, white sofas, and antique furniture. Also upstairs is the open galley kitchen with a Terracotta countertop and modern appliances. Outside directly in front of the kitchen area is a semi-covered space secluded by tall hedges that is ideal for candle lit dinners al fresco. The first floor, connected by an internal and two external stone staircases is the bedroom/bath area. The floors are of Pietra Serena. The Pompeiian red bathroom has vaulted ceiling and completely new facilities. The bedroom, which has a king-sized wrought iron canopy bed, has two enormous arched glass doors that provide much light during the day (and thick curtains to keep it dark while you sleep). From one of these doors there is access to another terrace, perfect for breakfasts time.
The property has a modern heating system that makes it comfortable throughout the colder months.
Both the access road and parking are reserved exclusively for this property.
The owners divide their time between Florence, the Mulino and South Florida.
They produce excellent Chianti and extravirgin olive oil on the property. They will be delighted to advise guests on the culinary and touristic highlights of the region.
