About the host
Hosted by Janet Bjorkstrand
An elderly English couple who love France and all it has to offer. This is our holiday home and we re very happy to share it with other travellers. Apart from travelling we are interested in architecture, history and good food. We were both brought up near London but have lived in the west country of England for many years. Another lovely area. After France we love to visit the US and when younger I spent some time in Italy
Why they chose this property
This house is unique being in an authentique old market town with everything that France has to offer t the bottom of the alley way. Whilst the area was badly damaged during the second world war Villedieu wasn't as the war went round it. The town has some very interesting museums and is famous for the copper trade which started in the 11th century. It also houses one of the remaining bell foundries in France and they recently made the new bells for Notre Dame de Paris. The excellent road network is within easy reach of Mont St Michel, Rennes, Bayeux and the Landing Beaches the most famous of which is at Omaha beach and has the amazing American cemetery
What makes this property unique
Guests to this property can benefit from being part of an old French town and really feel part of it. The house has been carefully restored but still maintains its very French flavour. The sunny and sheltered back garden is ideal for relaxing or eating al fresco using the BBQ and outdoor furniture. The town has numerous little café bars and homely restaurants as well as smarter hotel restaurants. Day to day grocery shopping is a delight as the bakers and charcuteries are all full of local goodies.
