A very luxurious apartment in the grounds of the historic Villa Capoana!

Villa Capoana was constructed in the year 1605 for the Duke of Mount Marciano in the locality of Fonte Uga in Fiumelatte. It was home to noble families for many generations until just recently, a part of it was reconstructed. In renovating, the construction company has ensured the preservation of the monumental fountain and garden area, which is a highlight of the historic villa and is now showpiece of the exclusive residence, which retains beauty and prestige.

This newly constructed apartment (ID 140) offers only the highest quality fixtures and fittings throughout, with no expense spared. The interior finishes of the apartment are beautifully done from the bleached-oak parquet floor to the soft painted suede finish walls. It is fitted with all modern appliances to facilitate this apartment with a fully-fitted luxury kitchen which allows you to cook your favourite Italian dishes, using fresh herbs available in the garden area. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms, one of which has a 'built–in' tiled bath tub, big enough for two, letting you relax together in style.

There is also a flat screen HD TV with Sky movie channels and DVD player to the living area which is framed by two large sliding glass doors to access the spectacular terrace, giving picture-postcard views of the lake throughout the apartment and creating a superb entertaining area.

You can enjoy the heat of the sun on this spacious front terrace while preparing a barbecue on the outdoor grill, or stay cool under the shade of cypress trees, in the beautiful paved garden behind.

The two luxurious double bedrooms both enjoy flat screen HD TVs and enjoy direct access through French doors to the guests’ spacious sunny terrace.

A special feature of this apartment is that it has direct access to the amazing monumental fountain which runs down from the mountain. You can sit here in the private garden sipping wine, or dining in the shade of the cypress and palm trees while watching the water run through the fountain down to the lake, only a few meters below.

The apartment has an under floor heating system which keeps it warm during the colder season and portable air conditioning units in each room to keep it cool in the summer. It also has a private garage with automatic remote control doors. The property is accessed by elevator with private keys. Fiumelatte train station is also very near the apartment.

This apartment is connected by (lockable) internal doors to Della Fontana Loft apartment. The two apartments can be rented together to create a unique 4- bathroom luxury complex sleeping up to 12. Alternatively, the Dolce Vita apartment can be rented as a one bedroom/one bathroom apartment without the studio bedroom and at a reduced price.

The apartment is in the village of Fiumelatte, part of the beautiful town of Varenna, just 1 km away on the Eastern shore of Lake Como. The property has been designed to take full advantage of the lakes premier view of the 'Golden Triangle' (Bellagio, Menaggio and Varenna).

The Italian Lakes are a little slice of paradise. Elegant ribbons of blue water stretch out ahead, folded into the sun-baked foothills, with a spectacular back drop of the snow-capped Alps.

Lake Como offers hidden treasures just waiting for the visitor to discover them: charming corners forgotten by time, lakeside villages where nothing seems to have changed for centuries.

It is steeped in history with an immense collection of churches, architectural masterpieces and works of art covering the centuries. The lake is situated in a basin surrounded by wooded mountains, and offers an extremely varied landscape, with its' shores featuring a succession of pastures, and woods as well as harsh and impressive rock formations.

All this alongside elegant, lakeside villas with sub-tropical gardens, which provide a haven of peace and tranquillity and chic resorts such as Varenna, Bellagio, Menaggio and Como itself.

Warming, in spring and graced with natural beauty, the lakes are still a place to draw breath and wonder. Lake Como, oriented north-south, ringed by characterful old villages often wedged onto narrow beaches between rugged cliffs and water. Those classic lake images of flower strewn balconies, Baroque gardens and splendid waterside villas can be found here in abundance. Dotted around and between the lakes are some of Italy's finest art cities, such as Milan, Verona & Bergamo.

The most romantic and picturesque villages on the lake are Santa Maria Rezzonico, Varenna (15 min by ferry) & Bellagio (8 min by ferry), Lenno (visit Villa Balbianello, location for 007's Casino Royale as well as Villa Gaeta, right here in Menaggio) & Laglio (where George Clooney owns Villa Oleandro).

Stunning view, myriad deficiencies

Sadly, the apartment was not vetted properly. The key marked "main gate" was wrong--a caretaker came shortly and replaced it; hot water from rain shower didn't work--we were asked to use the shower in the studio next door; no microwave--a new one was brought the second day; broken washing machine--repaired the afternoon of day 5 but we were leaving the next morning so of no use; no Sky channels--disconnected; the connector doors leading to another apartment are like cupboard doors with a crack so there is line of sight, severely compromising privacy. That we discovered before leaving for dinner on night 5, our last night. Voices from other side were clearly understood. Management team was super nice and responsive yet they should have done all the repairs and been clearer about the connector door prior to renting it out. Fifteen percent was refunded.

The apartment is in the village of Fiumelatte, part of the beautiful town of Varenna, just 1 km away on the Eastern shore of Lake Como. The property has been designed to take full advantage of the lakes premier view of the 'Golden Triangle' (Bellagio, Menaggio and Varenna).

Varenna is home to Italy's shortest river, the Fiumelatte. Only 250 meters long it rushes, frothy and milky-white (hence the name) down the rock face and crashes into the lake from the end of March to the end of October each year. And then it stops - just like that. Leonardo da Vinci climbed down to find out where the water came from (without success!), as recorded in his Codice Atlantico notebook.

The two famed villas of Villa Cipressi, with its terraced gardens cascading down to the shores & Villa Monastero, a true botanical showcase are located nearby.

With the mild climate & abundant sunshine & warmth right into the evening olive & cypress trees abound as well as many other varieties of lush, tropical plants, typical of the lake, creating a paradise perfect for getaways!

Skiing in the area is bountiful; resorts such as Madesimo, only 1.15hr north of Colico and the local ski resort of Piani di Bobbio, only 40 minutes away.

Golf:

There are Golf clubs around Lake Como: The Menaggio & Cadenabbia Golf Club is Italy's oldest golf course. Established in 1907 with 18 holes Par 70, it is located above Menaggio near Croce, in Grandola ed Uniti, approx. 20 min.

Restaurant Golf at the club serves fantastic food and is well recommended.. Guests are always welcome, please call beforehand to check course rules. Golf Club Menaggio: (Menaggio Como).

Skiing:

This beautiful lake region of Italy is not the best for skiing as you may imagine, despite its scenery, crisp air and near perfect visibility and mountains capped in winter snow. It does however have Skiing opportunities at local resorts for a day out.

There is a small ski area on Mt. Lema, not more than 10 km from Lugano, but you have to be lucky to have enough snow for skiing. In Ticino, the local Swiss Canton, the best places to ski are probably either San Bernardino (south of the pass of the same name) or Airolo (south of Gotthard pass). Both are reachable in about 1 hour by car across the Swiss border.

There are direct trains to Airolo as well from Lugano and hence from Italian Stations. To S. Bernardino there is only a bus connection. For more snow try Andermatt (on the north side of Gotthard pass) which has normally good snow conditions and a good choice of runs.

The closest major ski resorts are St. Moritz and Madesimo toward the Splugen Pass which is approx.100km.
