About the property

2 bedroom house on Cheshire (Hoosac) Lake, near Mt. Greylock

Comfortable house situated on the shore of Hoosac Lake with beautiful, long views stretching across the large lake. It's fully furnished, with cable TV, stereo, and high-speed Internet. There's a big kitchen, with a central island for dining. The expansive living/dining room and attached study, with distinctive wood paneling, are flooded with light and look out on the lawn and lake. One bedroom is on the main level, and one is upstairs with a roof window (AC in both bedrooms). The furnishings are pleasant, with some antiques. Windowed basement has washer & dryer, ping-pong table. The house is situated on large grounds gently sloping to the lake. It has upper and lower decks with outdoor furniture, and one screened deck. The location is quiet, on a dead-end road that extends into the middle of the lake. Rowboat and dock, kayaks available. Jiminy Peak skiing, Ashuwilticook bike trail, Tanglewood, Williamstown, Lenox, MASS MoCA, and gorgeous fall foliage all within a short drive.

Wading is possible from right off the property (the water is clean), but the lake is not yet weed-free enough for swimming (like many of the Berkshire lakes). It is highly suitable for boating, kayaking, and fishing. The glistening lake is surrounded by mountains in all directions and the location of the property in the central Berkshires town of Cheshire is very convenient, with all the premier outdoor and cultural attractions of the area only a short drive away.

Jiminy Peak with summer activities and skiing is less than 20 minutes away. For fall, the house is 20 minutes from the Mohawk Trail, with some of the best leaf viewing in the country.

What makes this house unique

House is wonderfully situated on Cheshire Lake, with incredible views. Near the high Berkshires (Mt. Greylock, and now the 'Ashuwilly' bike trail), but still only half an hour to most Berkshire attractions.

My Winter Stay in Cheshire

  • 5 of 5

The property was accurately described in every respect; one of the nicest features of the house is its layout: the the cozy living/dining area and office "corner" all look out to the lake and mountains, offering a spectacular view all around. Even while watching t.v., one could still enjoy the scenery. I visited while the weather was 15-23 degrees and the heating system in the house was excellent, and having an enclosed garage with automatic garage door opener was a great feature. I felt sorry for those who in the morning had to scrape the snow and ice off their vehicles. And having a nice computer with internet access and cable t.v. were a definite plus. The location of the house was just what I wanted & enjoy: tucked away enough to feel "away from the maddening crowd", but close to everything within a 10-15 minute drive. Beautiful parks, trails, and historical towns are within easy reach, too, including skiing and snowshoeing. I highly recommend Canterbury Farms in Becket for cross-country or snowshoeing. They have acres and acres of beautiful forrested land and the drive to get there was exciting as well.

There are plenty of local restaurants nearby the house and gourmet ones within short distances. Because it was my first time driving solo in snow, I missed out on many places I could have visited, including what I am told is a beautiful scenic drive along Rte. 2 known as the Mowhack Trail.Oveall, I enjoyed my stay tremendously and hope to return in the near future.

Cozy home, lovely view

  • 4 of 5

The house is cozy with a lovely, peaceful view of a tree-lined lake where ducks fish and fish duck. The house is perfectly located for us. We spent a lot of time hiking, biking, site-seeing and the location of the house made all of the Berkshires accessable. We spent time in Adams, North Adams, Mount Greylock, Pittsfield, Lenox, Stockbridge--beautiful country and all within an easy drive from the house. A perfect get-away. I should also mention that we had a minor plumbing problem and Carol got it handled not just rapidly, but in a manner to save us any inconvenience. It's good to know when you travel that someone is looking out for you. I recommend a stay at this quiet Cheshire gem.

Really enjoyed our week here

  • 4 of 5

The location is just like in the pictures, overlooking this pretty and peaceful lake. We enjoyed the Berkshires very much, the museums, the mountains, swimming, and traveling to the different towns in the area. This is a great place to stay while seeing the Berkshires.

Wonderful lake view

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely week in this comfortable house with beautiful views over the lake. Everything we needed was provided right down to an umbrella in the porch and an amazingly well equipped kitchen. Lots of useful information about the surrounding area and Carol was very helpful before and throughout our stay.

New Years in The Berkshires!

  • 5 of 5

This house is just as it is described. The super cozy living room has beautiful views of the large yard and the lake. There were six of us that stayed and we all had plenty of room. The dining room table was large enough for all of us and there were plenty of extra chairs. We did a lot of cooking and found everything we needed in the kitchen. The rooms are accurately described and the beds were very comfortable.

When we were there it was very cold; probably 20's and under. The heat in the house worked perfectly and kept us very warm and cozy. We were able to watch the ball-drop on the TV, which is a good size and offers many channels.

The location is pretty perfect. It's tucked away enough so you feel as if you are secluded yet it is close to everything you could need (grocery store, movie theatre, dining options). We went hiking in Mt. Greylock which is very easy to access and has well marked trails.

We all had a wonderful and relaxing New Years in Cheshire and we all hope to return in the summer months! Thanks Carol!!

The house is very close to the new Ashuwillticook Rail Trail (great for biking and for long walks) and is near Jiminy Peak for winter skiing and summer activities. The house is also right next to the Appalachian trail and close to Mt. Greylock. For contemporary art and an art scene, MassMoca in North Adams is 20 minutes away to the north. The superb music center at Tanglewood, with magnificent concerts all summer long in the shed or on the beautiful lawn, is only 30 minutes to the south. The same length drive to the northwest brings one to the charming town of Williamstown, with great theatre at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and lots of good restaurants. For cinema, the Berkshire Mall is about a ten minute drive and a selection of supermarkets, Barnes & Noble, etc. are about 10 minutes away.

Other Activities: concerts, art museums
