We are private owners of a unique property which we originally bought to enjoy a seaside break in a quiet location.

We love to come down to Shaldon, but we are still both working full time and run our own architectural and surveying practice where we live in Woking, Surrey. Therefore we have not used the Cottage as much as we would have liked. However, we still set aside some weeks in the holiday season for our own enjoyment.

JOHN BINGHAM & KATHY McCLOSKEY purchased this cottage in 2012

Shaldon is a quaint welcoming village which seems in a time warp and offers the opportunity for a quiet and relaxing Holiday.

Shaldon is one of those old fashioned communities where the locals say good morning and life continues at Its own pace.

Historically the property was the local greengrocers, but was recently purchased and developed by a local builder and extended from a single storey shop Into a double storey cottage. The first floor and roof are an extension erected in 20111/12 and the windows, fabric and services within the property are all newly renovated and installed. We have made several alterations to maximise the accommodation and furnished the cottage for our own enjoyment.

What makes this cottage unique

The Cottage is quite unique and this is apparent from when you first open the front door to reveal the layout and unusual stainless steel and plate glass balustrade.

The rear patio/terrace is secluded where you can enjoy breakfast or an evening supper and glass of wine for a quiet evening in or a short walk to sample the many pubs and restaurants nearby within easy level walking distance.

Perfect Stay

Second time at The Cottage and had a great week again. We love Shaldon and The Cottage is a perfect retreat. John was great to deal with and returned our deposit day after we left. no complaints and look forward to returning again - hopefully next year.

Lovely property, well appointed with lots of room and pretty much everything else one could want. Beach, pub (The London Inn - great atmosphere and even greater food in the restaurant or bar - check that there's not a music night if you prefer a quieter dining experience) and local shops all within a couple of minutes easy walking walking distance. There is on-street parking with space right outside the property but which is limited according to time of year - check the signs carefully (we didn't see a parking warden until the last day of the week that we stayed). If exploring Teignmouth, consider going over the water by pedestrian ferry just a couple of minutes walk away. Would we stay again? Definitely!

Cottage living in Shaldon

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 4 months over the winter period, and enjoyed every minute of it. The accommodation is well located in the village of Shaldon, close to the local amenities, and the sandy beach. Everything you need in the house to make your stay comfortable.

Beautiful cottage, perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully decorated seaside cottage. It was spotlessly clean and well equipped with everything we needed. There was plenty of room for our family of 5. The downstairs toilet was a bonus! There is a secluded area off the kitchen which was lovely for a morning coffee or evening glass of wine!

The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of storage space.

We absolutely fell in love with the village of Shaldon - everyone was so friendly. There is so much to do in the area. We visited the Shaldon Wildlife Park, Homeyards Botanical Gardens, Canonteign Falls, Killerton Hall, South Devon Railway and Buckfast Abbey. We also walked the coastal path to Dawlish.

We had 2 excellent evening meals at The London Inn, a great Sunday lunch in The Shipwrights Arms as well as lovely fish and chips from the chippy opposite the cottage.

There was a good selection of DVDs, puzzles and games - just not enough time to do everything!

Overall a fantastic holiday. Thank you John! We would love to return!

Lovely clean bright cottage.

  • 5 of 5

Good location in quaint seaside village. Good local restaurants and easy access to Teignmouth and other parts of Devon.

We didn't need a car and the kids and my elderly mother loved being able to walk to shops, cafes and beach.
