About the property

Airy detached gite with king size bed and private garden area

Bright and airy gite with it`s own garden area. Space for sunbathing, eating al -fresco or relaxing in the shade of the mimosa tree. Or, alternatively, lounge on the sunny terracing beside the pool .

Dining furniture and lighting for those sultry evenings dining outdoors. Set only 200 metres from the river beach in the very beautiful village of Cessenon-sur-Orb- Well known and loved for miles around by locals and tourists alike for it`s beautiful setting on the banks of the river Orb. Ideal for swimming , sunbathing or relaxing under it`s shady bank of trees with a good book or a picnic.

Our gite has an open plan and airy, light living area with well equipped kitchen and with tiled floor throughout and modern decor. .Fitted with fridge freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, combi oven/ microwave, hob, kettle, toaster, coffee machine, electric mixer and a good range of kitchenware and crockery .

Plenty of cupboard space if you like to cook and eat `at home`. An iron and ironing board for those creased up clothes you squeezed into your suitcase ! . Free WIFI and TV (French reception) with HDMI/USB ports (Bring your HDMI cable to plug into the TV if you bring your laptop or tablet and like to watch your local TV station ). DVD player.

The bedroom has a king size bed, ceiling fan and plenty of storage. A shower room with large shower cubicle, , vanity unit, toilet and heated towel rail. A hair dryer is also supplied.

Five minutes walk takes you over the river bridge to the beautiful medieval village with 3 restaurants, 2 bars and numerous shops . A supermarket, butcher, 3 boulangeries, pharmacy, hairdressers, doctors, gift shop, tabac, etc . In fact all your holiday requirements are available in the village plus a small twice weekly market selling delicious fresh local produce.

The area is a delight for sightseeing being tucked into the foothills of the mountains and only 30 minutes drive to the coast with it`s huge stretches of sandy beaches, water park and sports, diving etc. A little further to the historic Greek and Roman ports of Sete and Meze. Cycling is a popular sport here and indeed an important training area for professional cyclists. The Tour de France usually passes very close by.

Walking and Rock climbing at Gorge d`Heric and it`s 100`s of bolted routes is only about 30 minutes drive through the mountains .

A haven for wildlife, including the `mouflon` (wild sheep),It`s a splendid gorge for either easy walking on the concrete path, scrambling up for the more adventurous or serious climbing. The crystal clear tumbling waters with pools are perfect for bathing.

The canal du midi is also close by with boat hire and trips available. Historic villages, Roman remains and museums abound - there truly is something for everyone in this very unspoilt and fascinating region . A day trip over the border to Spain and the Salvador Dali museum is also well within reach -as are the magical Cathar castles . The historic and fairytale fortress city of Carcassonne is only an hour or so away -famous for it`s setting in various block-buster films-including Robin Hood-Prince of Thieves. Bastille Day (July 14th) history literally comes alight with it`s magnificent fireworks display on the battlements. We have our own magnificent Bastille Fete in Cessenon with big show band on the square and spectacular firework display from the riverbank. A lively weekend and ideal time to plan your holiday around.

To the east is the Pont du Gard- (Roman aquaduct) a Unesco world heritage site and well worth a visit-again during June to celebrate midsummer they hold on 2 weekends a `Spectacular` of laser show, music and fireworks where you may take a picnic to the river and enjoy an evening of magical entertainment .

The famous Millau bridge is worth a visit - with it`s visitors centre -and, it`s reputed, gives one the nearest experience to flying without leaving the ground !

Cirque de Navacelle and St Guillham les Desert are other very special places to visit....

Alternatively , just rest and relax around the village we now call home -- you won`t be disappointed .

Cessenon-sur-Orb, a `circulade` village with it`s maze of medieval streets , tower with magnificent views across the river to the mountains and wonderful walks has more than enough to keep you occupied .

About Lynda Mary Lancaster-Wood

Simon and I arrived in France from rural North Yorshire in 2003 in our motor home in which we had been travelling for several months . We decided that as we had never had our `gap year ` in our youth now was a good time to take it ! Our three children were all settled with their own families in the UK . We sold our home- and our business and set off on our adventure travelling in southern Europe (Italy, Spain, Portugal and France). From our first visit with the immobilier (estate agent) we fell in love with Cessenon and it`s friendly people . We decided this was exactly where we wanted to live and bought our first old and restored property-formerly a bergerie ( place for the sheep) . We sold this house with it`s successful little gite in the medieval part of the village after 7 years. Then in 2011 we moved just across the river to acquire a bigger property with a larger outside space and possibility to have gites and a swimming pool. Simon is a qualified tree surgeon and landscape gardener with his own business in the UK from 1980 and continues his profession here in France while I take care of the gite side of things and the business administration. . Our family of 3 children, spouses and 5 grandchildren remain in the UK but love to visit whenever they can.

My varied working life , amongst published poetry, writing magazine articles and for resource books has been a catering business, a flower arranging business and a ladies and gents accessory shop.

Why Lynda Mary Lancaster-Wood chose Saint-Chinian area

When we decided to move from our previous property across the river we knew for sure we wanted to stay here in Cessenon. It`s a lively, working village that opens it`s doors, and it`s heart to tourism during the summer months.

Our only concern was that at this side of the river the properties are more modern in style -but also offer more space and outdoor facilites. Our villa gave us the opportunity to create a characterful little gite, ideal for couples wanting a cosy getaway yet close to the lively goings on, ie music nights, fetes and events in the village without having to drive .

We have now installed a swimming pool which will be shared by guests .

So - the conclusion :

Beautiful spring weather, bountiful summer sunshine and sultry evenings, Glorious autumns with amazing colour and the grape harvest and then crisp, sunny-short winters to recuperate ready for next year !

Add to that peace and tranquillity with the option of lively entertainment in the summer months and amazing history and sightseeing experiences. The very best of both worlds we think.

What makes this bungalow unique

Our proximity to the river and mountains but yet only 30 minutes to the coast make Cessenon an ideal holiday location. The shady Mimosa tree in the gravelled garden along with a beautifully landscaped swimming pool area created by my husband, the birdsong, frogs and cicadas singing . All this contributed to our falling in love with this little corner we call home . Add to that the lively village atmosphere only 5 minutes walk away-the possibility to stroll to the bar for coffee and croissants on sunny mornings or aperatifs on sultry summer evenings -and to eat out in the village -all contributed to our love of this unique village . With it`s wine Co-Operative and excellent local wines made by local chateaux and domaines what could be a better reason for choosing Cessenon !

Exciting canoe trips on the River Orb. And for the less energetic lots of fetes, galleries, the beautiful Jardin St Adrien and mediterranean garden at Roquebrun, Set beside the river, in the foothills of the mountains and only 30 minutes drive to the coast we firmly believe we have the best of both worlds here in in one of our regions pretty and oldest villages ---Cessenon-sur-Orb

This was our first time in this part of France and this Gite delivered on all fronts. It is well positioned and Simon and Lynda are absolutely delightful combining privacy with recommendations in the correct proportions.

A beautiful gite perfect for a couple. Comfortable with everything you need. Very quiet and secluded

  • 5 of 5

We had a perfect week at Le Petit Mimosa. Lynda and Simon are such lovely people but are very keen for visitors to have their own space. The pool was amazing as the weather was so hot and to have the pool at your disposal is great.

Cessenon-sur-orb is a beautiful village just a short walk across the bridge to the bars and restaurants.

The accommodation is really comfortable and ideal for a couple.

We enjoyed every minute and were made very welcome. We would love to go back one day and would highly recommend it to anybody.

Great location, great gite, great hospitality

  • 5 of 5

This little gite was great, simple but spotlessly clean and tidy, well maintained and the location to Cessenon perfect. Although Cessenon is limited on restaurants what is there provided us with excellent food and drink and a good selection. Cessenon has it's own river beach which is 2 minutes from the gite and near by is Reals on the Orb river with its rapids, scenery and lovely beach. It was a first for us to swim in a river!

We didn't need to ask Lynda or Simon for anything the gite is so well equipped. We had a good sized garden of our own to relax in and the pool on the other side of the house was idyllic and perfect for a cool down after exploring the area.

Lynda and Simon couldn't have been more accommodating. Assisting us with any questions and requirements. They were a lovely couple to have as our accommodation owners and obviously take a pride in providing their guests with great hospitality.

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this lovely little gite and will definitely be returning.

Owner's Response: We aim to be the best we can be and provide our holiday makers with as pleasant an experience as possible. Being on site means we are available to answer our holiday makers questions and hopefully, after 13 years in the area, help steer them towards whatever activity interests them most. It's good to have such great reviews but even better to have such lovely guests .
