Why Julia Pikal -owner chose Perigord Noir

Both David and I love France, as did my parents. Their dream was to buy a house in France. So when they both sadly died, I decided to make their dream come true and mine too of course! We spent 5 months looking for the house of our dreams. We had nearly given up when on a final trip to the lovely Perigord Noir, we stumbled across la Goulette, It was love at first sight! I was so overwhelmed by the beauty of the location and the view from the huge terrace, that I burst into tears at the thought of not being able to own this house! We had a big birthday celebration on the terrace last July and all our guests also fell in love with La Goulette and the view from the terrace! Being a nature lover, it is wonderful to have red squirrels and deer in our woodland, a variety of frogs and lizards and so many beautiful butterflies.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Anyone who has visited La Goulette always gets excited as they drive up the hill and first see the little estate. Then as they approach the house and cottage joined together by a wisteria covered arch, they are already enchanted. There is a lovely atmosphere at La Goulette and a feeling of space. The brand new swimming pool is a beautiful ice blue colour and there is lots of space with the large gardens, woodland and pond for children to have fun too. Not far away is Etaing du Tamnies for those who like a beach and beach bar. You can walk down to Plazac to buy fresh bread at the Boulangerie, there is a bio-store (mini supermarket) 2 restaurants and bars as well as more shops in nearby Rouffignac, Les Moustiers, St Leon sur Vezere and Montignac.

Timeless elegance in a picturesque setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a blissful stay at this beautifully situated, story book house, set in Perigord Noir. The views were stunning in all directions. The house is immensely stylish with a designer's flair and an eye for detail and comfort. We loved the antique beds, the tiles in the kitchen, the beautiful sofas and fireplace. Here at La Goulette, a feeling of space and timelessness transported us from a hectic London existence to a sense of tranquillity and elegance. The pool is perfect - I wouldn't change a thing, a good size, excellent quality sunbeds and space to relax. We enjoyed rustling up some Provencal dishes in the superbly equipped kitchen and sitting out on the large terrace felt like stolen pleasure. A lofty tree with lime coloured leaves gave shade at lunchtime and in the evenings, we sat out for hours, lit candles in the lanterns and enjoyed the soft evening light over the fields beyond. In the daytimes we ventured out to visit the local chateaus, dined at at some charming cafes and walked along the river. There is so much to do here, we are counting the days until our return. Thank you La Goulette for an experience of a lifetime, so much more than a holiday.

Absolutely stunning Place

  • 5 of 5

I had the privilege of staying in this beautiful house with some friends in May this year. It was picture perfect with its far-reaching views of the countryside from its gorgeous large terrace. Most evenings we had a barbeque and relaxed under the stars with a glass of wine. Bliss!

It has a stunning large swimming pool and the whole space was extremely peaceful and private. I loved the architecture of the house with it's French flair. Lots of interesting artefacts about and nooks and crannies. It was beautiful. It was set in the most gorgeous gardens with lots of lovely roses in full bloom when I was there.

The house was extremely comfortable and the main living area was huge. It was filled with antiques and was very tasteful and charming. The kitchen was particularly well stocked with everything you needed to prepare a good meal for our party of 8. The house will easily accommodate 10 I would say even more…My bedroom was large with a lovely ensuite with a fantastic, brand new shower. I loved it. The bed was so comfortable and the sheets were sublime.

It is very near the village of St Leon which is by the river and the epitome of the image of the beautiful, sultry, Dordogne days that I imagined.

We went kayaking on the river and had some fantastic lunches outside at the riverside cafes. I absolutely adore this particular part of the Dordogne.

The owners seemed very nice and were very knowledgable about the area and gave us some fantastic advice on where to eat and the best chateauxs to visit. We found the Trogladyte village really interesting.

I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this fantastic property in this most stunning area.

Thank you for a lovely holiday, we'll be back.

Unforgettable experience

  • 5 of 5

Just wonderful, thank you. We had a lovely time at La Goulette. We took our 10 month old on his first trip to France and La Goulette was just perfect for his first french house adventure! We had a choice of two cots and a highchair at our request. The house itself is absolutely stunning with incredible views. One of our highlights was sitting out on the huge terrace soaking up the views and enjoying cooking our meals using the BBQ. All of us slept extremely well, because of the peace and tranquility of the place. We will definitely stay again!!

Just stunning, thank you! We loved our stay at La Goulette. We took our 10 month old for his first stay in France and La Goulette was perfect for his first french house adventure! We had a choice of two cots and a highchair at our request. The house is stunning with breathtaking views and we all slept extremely well because of the peace and tranquillity of the place. Our favorite part of our stay was getting to know the local wildlife in the pond and trees. The tree frogs chorus at night was magnificent. We felt extremely welcome and we had everything we needed. The house feels very private and we enjoyed cooking our meals on the terrace using the BBQ each night. We will definitely stay again!!

A haven of peace in sumptuous surroundings

  • 5 of 5

La Goulette is a little piece of magic and mystery discreetly hidden away amongst glorious Perigord countryside. The house itself is high on a hill, so that when you are quietly sipping your evening drink on the magnificent terrace,, you do so overlooking the breathtaking view. Even the Kites fly past you at eye level. We experienced the warm welcome from the owners who made us feel at home, ensuring that we had everything we needed. Despite being hidden away it is only a short drive to nearby villages where you can experience the warmth of the local French inhabitants, all of whom were charming and helpful, unlike the reputation some Parisians have. I would come back here and, as I sit indoors in my home in England, where the wind is howling and the rain is beating at my window - in June, I wish I was there.

Beyond Expectation

  • 5 of 5

I arrived with high expectations but La Goulette was far beyond my expectaions. Totally stunning house with large rooms and best of all huge terrace overlooking the valley. Ideal for evening Drinks and Bar-b-ques or just Sunbathing. Lovely Swimming pool but too cold at Easter to try.

Local villages and towns all have extremely good restaurants at excellent value and I love going to the nearby Boulangerie to get Fresh bread every morning.

I would thoroughly recommend La Goulette to anybody and it suits all types of visitor and I can't wait to go again.
