Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 4

Sherri’s Terlingua Cabin is a wonderful place to relax and an excellent home base for exploring the Big Bend area. You will have quick and easy access to Big Bend National Park, the Rio Grande River, Terlingua Ghost Town, and Big Bend Ranch State Park. The cabin in within easy walking distance (1/3 mile) to the famous La Kiva Bar and Grill.

Enjoy all the conveniences of home. There is a bedroom with a full-size bed, a sleeping loft with two twin beds, a bathroom, living room, and small kitchen.

The living room area has a full-size futon that can be made out as a bed. There is a small TV with a built-in DVD player. We do have a few DVDs. Feel free to bring your own but you’ll probably spend more time on the porch watching the stars and Terlingua Creek.

The kitchen has a refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, bread maker, small convection oven and coffee maker. The stove works but the oven doesn’t. There is also plates, silverware, glasses for your use. Pots and pans are also provided.

The bathroom is small but has a shower, toilet and sink with hot running water.

The cabin is cooled and heated by two mini split air conditioning systems.

Sherri’s Terlingua Cabin is located on a bluff above a spring fed section of Terlingua Creek. Most of the time there is just a foot or two of water in this section of the creek. But when it rains it can become a raging torrent in the canyon below the cabin. Be careful near the edge of the cliff. The ground can shift dangerously and unexpectedly.

No pets or children under the age of 12 are allowed at the cabin.

Loved this cabin!

  • 5 of 5

The three of us stayed for the Big Bend 50 Run over the weekend. The cabin was well stocked and comfortable. Everything was provided that we would need...plenty of towels, amenities, great kitchen for a small cabin. Shower was great, hot water for all of us. Take your camp chairs and enjoy the night skies on the bluff outside the cabin. Easy to find and door code worked great so we did not have to keep up with keys. Several local dogs came by to visit plus one roadrunner who hung out with us. Close to great eating places and the park. Would recommend this place and stay there again.

Four stars because there is a septic smell

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying with us and for posting a review. We wish you had contacted us immediately about that smell. There were two faulty plumbing connections made by the same bad plumber. Both have since been fixed. The first report was of a "dead mouse smell" prior to your visit, but we could not confirm the smell and found no indication of anything dead in or near the cabin. When you reported the septic smell after you left, we were able to quickly find and repair the actual problem (a faulty drain line connection under the kitchen sink). Sadly, the drain line connection under the bathroom sink failed a couple of days later. It was also very quickly and easily fixed within minutes of us finding out about it. In each case It took me five minutes to arrive at the cabin then about thirty minutes to find and fix the problems. If you had called when you first noticed the smell, we could have given you a credit to pay for a nice meal out and fixed the problem before your dessert arrived. We hope you will stay with us again in the future. We have since inspected all the drain lines, the septic system, and plumbing connections. This issue will not recur.

Cute, well stocked cabin close to Big Bend

  • 4 of 5

Had everything we needed for our stay near Big Bend. Much better than staying at a motel. Location was good with beautiful sunrises. Cute cabin that seemed clean. Had a dead mouse smell, but no signs of one. Would stay at again.

Owner's Response: Glad you had a good time. Sorry about the smell. Turned out not to be a mouse. There was a clog in the pipes which was allowing some sewer gas to back up into the cabin. We have since taken care of it. So no more bad smell.

Awesome location. Very cute and comfortable.

This place is a delight. It's very conveniently located. Right in the heart of Terlingua/StudyButte and a 5 minute drive from the West entrance of Big Bend National Park. I think we were the first people to stay in this property when it became listed and part of me hates to let the secret out. It may look like a little barn from the outside but it is really nice inside with all the modern conveniences you would expect, and then some. The owners have gone to some effort to make this place very cute and comfortable with lots of handy extras inside like towels, blankets, and flashlights. My two brothers and I stayed here recently on a guy trip. Plenty of room for us 3 and I could see it would be a fun place for a couple with two children as the kids would love the 2 beds upstairs in the sleeping loft. There is a tiny TV in the cabin that we never even turned on but we did notice there was a small DVD collection. There's also some nice books and maps in the cabin. We never turned the stove or oven on either but saw that there were pots and pans and such if we had needed them. The cooling system in the cabin works great. There's plenty of space around the cabin so there is plenty of space to park and sit outside at night and watch the light show mother nature provides. Again, it's a very comfortable and cozy cabin. So if you are looking for a cute, cozy place close to everything in Terlingua with quick easy access to Big Bend National Park - Sherri's cabin is a great choice.
