Discover the magic of Sorrento from this unique apartment

Overview

Property

Updated: 09-Dec-2016
2 double bedrooms, 1 bathroom Sleeps 4

Gli Archi is a one-of-a -kind property with considerable charm, right in the historical centre of Sorrento.

Spend a few hours wandering this section of town and you’ll know why Sorrento is such a popular destination. The old town is home to numerous historical buildings including the Basilica of Sant’Antonino and the complex of San Francesco. The quaint narrow streets are full of colourful shops and local restaurants serving fresh, authentic food. A wonderful place to discover the true essence of Sorrento.

Set within this magical atmosphere is Gli Archi, or ‘The Arches’, on the first floor of an old building, reached via twenty low stairs.

It is easy to see how the apartment was named, as it has double height ceilings permitting two mezzanine levels.

You enter into a large living room with sofa, tables, flat screen 32” television and a stereo with a docking station. There is a low dividing wall leading into the kitchenette, beautifully decorated with a glasswork mural in blues and amber, depicting the sun rising over the waves.

The kitchenette has fantastic high ceilings and a big window overlooking the streets below. There are two small dining tables to seat four, plus all essentials including four gas rings, oven, fridge freezer, kettle, toaster and mocha coffee maker. There is also a washing machine, iron and ironing board in a separate room.

There is internet Wifi throughout the apartment, plus air conditioning.

At the other end of the living room is an elegant spiral staircase, leading to the first double bedroom. This overlooks the kitchen and has a queen sized double bed, armchairs and ample storage.

Returning downstairs, a short hallway takes you to the bathroom and second double bedroom.

The bathroom is tastefully decorated in tones of mocha and latte and offers a shower enclosure, toilet, wash basin, bidet and hairdryer.

Entering the bright and airy second bedroom, you will see a comfortable double bed before you, with a second staircase leading to a seating area on a mezzanine level above.

Please note that there are two additional costs payable when booking Gli Archi: a 25 Euro agency fee, plus a 50 Euro cleaning charge.

A car is not recommended for a stay at Gli Archi. Public transport links are very good and many attractions are within easy walking distance. Should you need to use a vehicle during your stay, there is nearby public parking.

Once you’ve spent time exploring Sorrento, why not travel further afield? Gli Archi is a great base for travelling to the Island of Capri, or along the Amalfi Coast, with lush Amalfi, Positano and Ravello offering both beauty and cultural interest.

Please note, there will be a final cleaning charge of € 50 added to the rental period at time of the booking.

PS II.: Note: From 1 April to 31 October the Municipal Council of Sorrento has instituted a mandatory tourist tax on all temporary residents.

The tourist tax must be added to the total amount of stay and has to be pay cash at the arrival.

In the heart of it all

  • 4 of 5

Bruno met us at at the train station and then met us every couple of blocks to have guidance to the apartment as he was on a scooter and we were toting luggage. The apartment is as pictured although I think it was professionally done to give the appearance of a larger area and brighter than in actuality. Me, my wife, daughter and granddaughter all stayed for 6 nights. We took the downstairs bedroom and my daughter and granddaughter took the loft overlooking the kitchen. Our bed was comfortable and the bathroom right outside the door was convenient. The loft bedroom's bed is very hard (my daughter likes a super firm mattress but this one was not comfortable). Keep in mind that the vendors get deliveries very early in the morning and sounds carry.

The bathroom was great with the exception of the shower. The shower head sprayed everywhere but maintenance came and replaced the shower head. The shower drain is slow to drain but a bit better after maintenance fixed it. The shower itself is tiny, perhaps minscule. It would be better if it was enclosed but instead there is a moldy shower curtain that does not quite reach the bottom so water has a tendency to escape into the bathroom. The sink in the bathroom also leaked and despite numerous attempts by maintenance it was still leaking when we left. The kitchen is great, with a nice sized fridge and freezer (perfect for chilling the complimentary bottle of limoncello which was wonderful). The washing machine is located just a step outside of the apartment and worked very well (although the cycle takes a while) and clothes were always dried by morning after line drying them. It was very hot during our time in Sorrento and the air conditioning worked perfectly throughout our entire stay and the entire apartment stayed nice and cool.

Bruno also assisted us in booking a fantastic boat ride out to Capri for the day. I would shop online for prices, however. The recommended restaurant just steps away had great food however the service left something to be desired. Apparently the lack of service appears to be commonplace in most of the restaurants we ate at in Sorrento, not just this one. All in all a good place to stay but would be better with a few improvements.

Near everything

The apartment was well laid out and looked as pictured. Right in the heart of everything. The only thing

not mentioned is very noisy. Directly upstairs of all the vendors. So, if you want a great location and can

stand the noise this is the place. The shower was a very tight fit and water went everywhere. Other than that it was nice.

Wonderful experience - Great location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this apartment for 3 nights in April 2014 and enjoyed every minute of it. This place is newly remolded, spacious, clean and very comfortable for 2 couples or family with children. It is located at the center of the historic district and everything is within walking distance. There are supper markets, fruit stands, pastries stores and lots of shopping opportunities in the area. There is a fantastic restaurant steps away from the apartment (across the front door). We dined there every day and loved their Pizza and sea food dishes ... the best we ever had. We also booked a transfer from Naples airport to the apartment through the management company and the service was great. Over all, we loved this place and would like to come back. We also want to thank everyone in the management team, especially Mara and Sergio for their professional services.
