Despite its size our chalet has a delightfully warm and cozy feel which welcomes you on your return from your day embracing the mountain air.

Your ski to and from the chalet is made easy as we are set in a perfect location to ski in and ski out which is facilitated by a gentle blue run through the woodland to your front door!

We have a wonderful wrap around balcony surrounding the sitting room and kitchen allowing you to take the sun and enjoy the views at all times of the day.

Full description of the chalet:

Lower ground floor

With the exception of the fully tiled bathrooms and sauna, the lower floor is cozily carpeted and all rooms have centrally heated radiators with additional ceiling height radiant heaters to each of the bathrooms, for those rare occasions when you may wish to increase the warmth yet further.

Master bedroom (double)

Large comfortable king sized bed with double wardrobes and triple dresser leading to very large fully tiled en-suite bathroom with bathtub and shower (if you like power showering - you will not be disappointed with our showers), sink with lit mirrored cabinet, toilet and bidet and floor to ceiling built in shelving unit.

French doors to patio and garden areas, wrapping around the chalet facing the valley and mountain views.

Bedroom 2 (double)

Large king size bed with triple wardrobes and additional hanging space leading to French doors to patio and garden areas wrapping around the chalet facing the valley and mountain views.

Spacious hallway with discrete storage areas under the stairs leading to:

Fully tiled bathroom with free-standing shower unit with power shower, toilet and sink and lit mirrored cabinet.

Sauna

Traditional indoor Swiss wooden sauna, large enough to accommodate a group after a hard day's skiing.

Large sitting room with 2 sets of French windows taking in fully the views over the valley and two mountain areas. Windows are also set to the sides of the sitting and dining area to take further advantage of the views wrapping around the chalet.

There are two large sofas (including a 5 seater and a comfortable large sofa bed), an arm chair, wicker chair, large coffee/tv dinner table, entertainment cabinet with Samsung flat screen tv (HDMI and USB ports) and a satellite tv for when you want to relax or catch up on your favourite programmes. There is also a JVC speaker system. There is a wide selection of books (including some children's books).

In addition to the underfloor heating throughout the main living area, there is a large traditional wood burning real fire adding further to the comforts of this already delightfully warm and cozy chalet. Logs are available to buy locally.

Dining

The adjoining dining area enjoys views through a set of French doors and large side window. There is a traditional wooden round dining table with seating for up to 10 people, although we prefer more elbow room and usually aim for no more than 8 adult diners.

Kitchen

The open plan living and dining area opens to a fully equipped kitchen with ample storage cupboards, large fridge with integral freezer, electric oven with built in extractor and light over a flat glass hob. There is a microwave, dishwasher, and a kettle for your convenience.

There is a side exit door to the wrap around balcony and garden area.

At the heart of the house is a wooden staircase which leads to the upper and lower bedroom floors. For those bringing toddlers, as you would do usually, we recommend the use of a child safety gate. We have one available for you to use in the chalet - which separates the main living area from the rest of the house.

Hallway

The main hallway leads to the front door and comprises a cloak cabinet with ample room for coats and shoes and a mirror to check your gear before heading onto the slopes. It's here where many of the board games and there like are kept.

Bathroom 3/ utility

The hallway leads to the third bathroom which comprises a toilet, sink and, as it is near to the front door, we have incorporated a utility area here with a washer/dryer and hanging space/airer to dry ski gear and keep shoes and snow shoes out of the way and cozy on the tiled under floored heating.

There is an ironing board and steam iron for your convenience. The chalet is also fully equipped with the usual cleaning equipment including vacuum, sweeping brushes and mop and bucket.

Upper floor

Set in the eaves with ample head room for adults, and a quaint hide away for the children, are two further adjoining bedrooms. Both are carpeted.

Bedroom 3 (large double sofa bed)

At the top of the open stairs is a well sized room which houses a double sofa bed and storage shelves. A bedroom/game room, it has a flat screen TV to use with X Box (DVD player) and a selection of games. The perfect hide away for children.

HDMI and USB ports to both the TVs - upstairs and down - if you wish to bring a cable.

Bedroom 4 (twin)

Leading from bedroom 3 is a fourth bedroom which enjoys a picture window which bathes the room in light. Slightly smaller than bedroom 3, this is a well sized twin room with bed side table and under bed pull out storage.

Babies and toddlers

We have a travel cot available (please bring your own bedding), a high chair, changing mat, potty and children's bowls and feeding spoons that you can borrow too - but, as with all baby items, we simply ask that you make sure they are properly cleaned before you leave as we don't want any germs hanging around for the little ones!

Linen for the bedrooms and a bath towel each (except separate baby towel) are included in the price of your winter stay. Beds are made for your arrival. In spring, summer and autumn we can arrange linen and towel bails to be provided at cost price. Kitchen towels are not provided.

Outside

Garage and heated boot cupboard.

The double height garage is situated next to the front door and is the perfect place to store your skis, snowboards, mountain bikes and any other outdoor equipment you may have. There is a boot cupboard with its own radiator. Bring as much or as little as you like - there is plenty of room to store everything!

We keep our garden furniture in the garage and you are welcome to use all of it, either on the balconies or the garden areas to help you take full advantage of the wonderful and varied views which open to the different mountain ranges and valley beneath. We would simply ask that you pop them back into the garage at the end of your stay.

We have sun loungers, reclining chairs, portable BBQ, outdoor dining table which easily seats six, further chairs and wooden benches.

Parking area

We have a driveway to fit one car, leading to the garage. However, there is plenty of space for several cars to park on the area beside the road, immediately outside the chalet. This is where we usually park our cars, particularly in winter as the area is cleared of snow regularly by the commune.

Accessibility

Access is via a gently sloping driveway - which is stark contrast to many chalets in the village. So, no clambering up and down steps with your skis or board and/or children! We find this invaluable!

Although not adapted for wheelchair use, our chalet does have the potential to welcome guests with reduced mobility. Depending upon occupancy and your preferences, the living room sofa bed can be used as a bedroom which means there is near level access to the chalet, kitchen, garage, main balcony and bathroom 3 (although please note that shower and bath facilities are only available downstairs). Please do contact us before booking and we will do our best to help.

Internet access

We have complimentary wifi access in the chalet. Mobile internet access on our portable devices works well for us (as do our 02 &Vodafone mobile phones).

Chalet Marie was perfect for our family Christmas. The views over the valley were only blighted by the depth of snow along the balcony ballustrade! We skied from the chalet to the piste down to the cable car in Tzoumaz and then all day in Savolyere and over to Verbier. At the end of the day we took our sledges back on the slopes and had our own family downhill competition. We decided to take our own food and the kitchen equipped with everything you need for a big family. A perfect chalet for grown up children aged 17 - 23, bedrooms comfortable, plenty of living room with big setees to cosey down on to watch DVDs on the flat screen in the evenings. Our only complaint - We didn't get to light the log burner because it was too warm in the Chalet - and who'd complain about that.

Summer in Switzerland.....

This is a fantastic base, with stunning views. Never thought to go to such a place in the summer, but starting the day on the balcony for breakfast, before venturing out, both locally and further afield Chalet Marie provides a very relaxing place to return with everything you need. Will return without a doubt and more than comfortable for four adults. Wi-fi signal was fantastic.

Prefect... Our families had a BRILLANT time.

This chalet was in a great position and meant that we could ski in/out which was an added bonus with 4 children. The children loved the chalet, and resort , as did we. A well equipped chalet, we are hoping to return next year. A gem of a resort.

A perfect retreat

Whether you are a beginner or an established skier, a large group or a couple, Chalet Marie is perfect. As well as a great location ( ski in ski out ) , walking distance to the beginners run ( with conveyor belt to the top ) and the beautiful bar, it's also a very welcoming and warm environment to stay in. I stayed there for 10 days with my 7 year old son. The chalet is laid out in a way that it doesn't feel too big for a dad and son trip or a couple. Great teaching facilities available, nice restaurants in th village and a well stocked supermarket. Can't wait to go back.

Great position.

Wonderful position (particularly if have car, as it is a long walk to village and shops etc). Ski-in/out works. Like hot cupboard in garage for ski boots etc. Not really 4-bedrooms rather is 3 bedrooms plus outer room to 3rd bedroom. 3rd bedroom has no storage. Kitchen and living room work well.

Lovely chalet in stunning position

Lovely chalet in stunning position with the benefit of ski in ski out facility. Only a few minutes drive from the village with small supermarket and good restaurants. The highlight was new years eve when we stood on the terrace under the stars watching the fireworks for miles around. Charlie provided all the information we needed and was a pleasure to deal with.

Great chalet with stunning views.

We stayed at Chalet Marie over New Year (four adults and five children). The chalet was clean, tidy and very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The views from every angle were absolutely stunning and the fireworks on New Years Eve were fabulous. The best bit as far as we were concerned having children ranging from 5 to 13 was the fact that the chalet is ski in ski out so no struggling with skis etc on the ski bus. This alone made our stay much more enjoyable. We all had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend this property.

Location

From the Owner

The location of our chalet is perhaps the main reason that keeps us, our family and our friends coming back year on year. The views are spectacular and our chalet is one of the few chalets in the village that truly is ski in and ski out - and there are no steps nor a steep driveway to access the chalet! Our chalet is known for having one of the best positions in the village. The ski home from a day on the slopes is the most delightful run I've ever known - down a breathtakingly beautiful blue run which trails its way gloriously through the woods. It's just perfect for a restful glide home and to hop into the sauna after an exciting day on the slopes or, for those who still crave more excitement, you can ski straight back to the village down the Vallon d'Darby. There is such a welcoming feel to the village both from the locals and those who return year on year. We have made wonderful friends over the years and returning, whichever season, is fantastic - not only for the scenery and activities, but also for the welcome. We particularly enjoy La Tzoumaz because it is great for all ages. However, although there are bars and restaurants in the village which range from trendy to traditional, if you are looking for crowds of young people and drunken revelry until 7am - La Tzoumaz is probably not the place for you! A favourite place for us is Bar Etablons which is located right on the slopes, approximately 150 metres from our chalet - perfect for apres ski (we also find it perfect as there is never a disturbance to the tranquility of our chalet!). There are some lovely restaurants in the village a it is worthwhile sampling them all if you can!

La Tzoumaz (named after the word 'tzoumer' - meaning taking a break) is one of the true hidden gems of the Swiss Alps offering immediate access to the world famous Verbier’s chic ski area but with none of the queues. Our chalet is situated right on the piste and is one of the few truly ski in and out chalets in La Tzoumaz. Perfect for families and groups of friends. Quiet ski slopes and short queues even in the busiest weeks of winter.

La Tzoumaz is in the heart of the 4 Vallees which covers 412 km of pistes.

Winter:

Whether a novice or an expert (or even a non skier) there are lots of options which will satisfy everyone.

The area of La Tzoumaz-Savoleyres consists of 55 km of piste. There are 92 ski lifts linking the resorts of Verbier, La Tzoumaz and Bruson, as well as Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon. The highest point in the area is the Mont-Fort glacier (3,330 m). Runs for all levels criss-cross the amazing surroundings in this winter sports’ paradise with its modern infrastructure and guaranteed snow.

A telecabine takes skiers and non skiers up to 2354m to reach the top of Savoleyres (the mountain that La Tzoumaz shares with the resort of Verbier) and down to the grandiose shops and restaurants of Verbier.

On our north facing slopes, the snow stays in fantastic condition thoughout the winter season (keeping its snow for longer than our neighbours: Nendez, Verbier, Thyon and Veysonnaz) and on the south slopes you can take your time in the sun.

For the more adventurous skiers, the Mont Fort, Tortin and the Vallon D'Arby are all easily accessed from your front door!

Smaller and calmer (and less expensive) than our immediate neighbour resort of Verbier, La Tzoumaz is a great option for family ski holidays. There is a kids club, a snow garden for the little ones and an excellent ski school for all ages with English speaking instructors.

The village also has an ice rink, indoor heated swimming pool and the longest luge (toboggan) in the Swiss Romande (10km!) and a crèche (2 yrs+).

So, whether you are a fan of skiing, snowboarding, sledging, snowshoeing, ski touring, ice skating or just relaxing in the sun, everyone will enjoy La Tzoumaz.

Summer activities

For a breath of fresh air either on foot or skyborne, you have a choice between a whole host of activities : hiking, VTT, fishing, swimming pool, playground, climbing or paragliding. The famous bisses or irrigation canals running through La Tzoumaz, including the famous Bisse de Saxon, provide a refreshing alternative for ramblers. The Maison de la Forêt, an exhibition area dedicated to forestry and the starting point of the Sentier des Sens (Senses Trail), will delight young and old in search of adventure. The nature and scenery is distinct and beautiful whichever season you arrive (and we have 4 glorious seasons - and it is impossible to decide, even for our family of dedicated skiers, which is our favourite!).

Cycling

Give the wheels of your bike a leisurely turn on our scenic routes or take the thrills and challenges of our mountain bike routes. You can either hire bikes (including electric ones) or bring your own.

Day trippers in search of discovery can attempt the Tour du Mont-Fort, while race fans can go on the famous Grand Raid.

To save you the drag of the uphill, in summer you can choose to have your bike taken up by the ski-lift - fantastic!

MTB

Enjoy 28 internationally renowned groomed cross-country trails, try out an electric mountain bike or take on the five downhill runs at the bikepark.

For performance and thrills, the Verbier- La Tzoumaz Bikepark is the ideal place to give free rein to your passion! Experts and beginners alike can pit their skills in this challenging arena. Various trails for all levels of difficulty will lead you to discover the delights of downhill biking amid exceptional scenery.

Some tracks feature a difference of 700 metres in height between the top and bottom.

8.6 km of runs, 5 runs of various levels, 3 Freelap timed areas, 2 skilifts open to mountain bikes, 1 Pump Track. 1 mountain bike wash station free of charge. 1 famous competition run, the Tire’s Fire, used for the European Cup as well as the Swiss Cup. Clear signposting with different colours, unusual run design using the natural topography.

Swimming/spa

We have a swimming pool and leisure centre in the centre of the village (next to the ski lift). However, for those who enjoy a full day of pampering and spa there are several first class thermal spas set within the local areas which are well worth the 20 or so minutes drive to enjoy.

In the summer months we pack our swimming costumes, inflatables and kyacks and head down the mountain to enjoy swimming in Lake Geneva. Our favourite is Lutry, a small town set beside the lake with lovely restaurants and lake side snacks, a diving board, changing facilities, easy access for prams and wheelchairs and some of the most beautiful lake side views of the Alps.

Unlike many other chalets we also do not make additional charges for:
- ELECTRICITY, HEATING, bed linen, bath towel, cleaning after departure
- On arrival your beds will be made for you (except the sofa bed, if relevant)

NOT INCLUDED:
- Security deposit (aim to refund 7 days after departure less damage/breakage related costs)
- Spring, summer & autumn: bed linen & towels
- Baby linens
- Resort tax 2.50CHF adult/1.25 CHF (6-16yrs) per night - new government rules require this to be paid by each guest to us and then we pay your account to the local government on your behalf. This fee is payable by you in addition to the rental tariff. Unfortunately Homeaway does not provide for payment automatically via its site and so it must be paid direct before arrival. It's a simple process. We will let you know how at the time of booking.

Not only are we a ski in and ski out chalet, but there are no steep slopes or awkward steps to fight your way up and down with your kit (or your children and their kit - our personal favourite!!). Simply ski home, walk a couple of metres down the gently sloping drive - pop your boots and skis/board in the garage and walk in the front door! It's a rare and wonderful thing! Our chalet has a delightfully warm and cozy feel yet there is plenty of room for all the family without tripping over one another! It is our perfect family home from home. The chalet is clean, very well appointed and is a well loved and cared for retreat. We have breath-taking views from the balcony, which wraps around the main chalet living area. However, my absolute favourite moments are waking up, drawing the curtains to the French windows of the bedroom and taking in the views and the purity of the mountain air. The chalet is also light and airy and welcoming for the non ski season. Fully equipt with patio and outdoor dining furniture and a BBQ it is perfect for whiling away summer evenings after spending the day enjoying the mountain activities (including world class mountain biking), shopping in Verbier and Montreaux, having taken a dip in Lake Geneva or having simply relaxed at home. There are 4 distinct seasons here in La Tzoumaz and, even for a family of ski lovers, we genuinely find it difficult to say which season we like best!

Large fully tiled en-suite bathroom with bathtub and power shower, sink with lit mirrored cabinet, toilet and be-day.French doors to patio and garden areas, facing the valley and mountain views. Bedroom 2 - Large double bedroom with triple wardrobes and additional hanging space. French doors to patio and garden areas facing the valley and mountain views. Upper floor: Set in the eaves with ample head room for adults (also a perfect hide away for children) are two further adjoining bedrooms. Bedroom 3 - At the top of the stairs is a well sized room which houses a large double sofa bed, storage shelves, flat screen TV for use of the X box and DVD player. Bedroom 4 - Leading from bedroom 3 is bedroom 4 which enjoys a picture window overlooking the piste. A well sized twin room with bed side table and under bed pull out storage. Double sofa bed in lounge, if needed.

Notes:

  • The double height garage is situated next to the front door and is the perfect place to store your skis, snowboards, mountain bikes and any other outdoor equipment you may have. Bring as much or as little as you like - there is plenty of room to store everything! We keep our garden furniture in the garage and you are welcome to use all of it, either on the balconies or the garden areas to help you take full advantage of the wonderful and varied views which open to the different mountain ranges and valley beneath. We would simply ask that you pop them back into the garage at the end of your stay. We have sun loungers, reclining chairs, outdoor dining table which easily seats six, further chairs and wooden benches and portable BBQ.
