Overview

About the property

Beautiful rural accommodation right in the heart of the farm

Badgers is a first floor cottage that can sleep 6. It offers lovely views both East and West, great for sunrise and sunsets. There are three bedrooms, a large lounge with solid fuel stove, bathroom with electric shower and fully equipped kitchen. The cottage as a whole offers wonderful character from its whitewashed stone walls and beamed ceiling to its great size and comfortable nature.

At Cleggan Farm Holiday Cottages we have six country style cottages, all full of character and charm. They are all individually appealing depending on how many people want to stay, from the smallest, which is ideal as a getaway location for a single person or couple, to our largest cottage which can sleep up to 9. If your group is bigger then we can always accommodate you in a combination of cottages to suit your needs. Contact the owner direct for information on the other cottages. Contact owner directly for stays shorter than a week.

Cleggan Farm Cottages are situated on the north side of Cleggan Bay, opposite Cleggan village where there are daily sailings to Inishbofin, which has been awarded the Best Island Holiday in the Irish Times Best Place to Holiday Competition 2013.

At Cleggan Farm Holiday Cottages you are surrounded by the unmistakable rugged beauty that is Connemara. We are situated at the foot of Cleggan Hill, with what remains of the Cleggan Tower at the very top. From there the views are stunning and far reaching, from Roundstone to Achill Island, the Twelve Bens, Slyne Head and Inishbofin. From your cottage, walk out towards Cleggan Head, taking in the megalithic tomb on your way, and reaching the small, but perfectly formed beach of Perth where you will find a holy well, or if your brave enough find the lighthouse over looking the vast Atlantic Ocean. If you prefer why not walk along the driveway to the main gates, where there is another beach, perfect for active children and walking dogs. Other gems in our area are just beyond the village: Salerna, Rosadillisk, Aughrus Peninsula or Omey strand and Island all unique and simply stunning.

Of an evening there is a choice of 4 village pubs to choose from each offering their own unique blend of hospitality, music, charm and craic. There is also a village shop, small play area and village green and riding stables. With the backdrop of the twelve bens to the East and the Atlantic to the west sunrises and sunsets are a thing to cherish and marvel at.

On the farm there are over 400 sheep, a few cattle and horses, and a few chickens to provide eggs. The work with the sheep in particular is a year round activity and they are regularly brought in for check ups and head counts. In March, April and May the farm is a hive of activity 24 hours a day, to monitor and manage the lambing. When the lambs and ewes are put back out on the fields, the joy in seeing these young ones gambolling together is a sight to see and never fails to put a smile on your face.

We always aim to make your stay as comfortable as possible and are always on hand to offer advise and help with any queries. Our location and attention to detail will make your stay unforgettable, a real treasure you will want to return to again and again.

About Josephine Yule

I live at the cottages all year round with my own family. As a child I lived in the UK, but always stayed at the farm on holidays so as to visit my great aunt and various cousins and friends within the local area. My father came to live at the cottages nearly 40 years ago and redeveloped and renovated them to the format that they are in today. I have now made the same move with my family and have taken over their management and maintenance, and instigated a continual program of renovation and redecoration for our own generation of business.

Why Josephine Yule chose Connemara

These cottages and this building is a part of who I am. I was brought up visiting the farm on a regular basis, and although at the time it was never my intention to become its guardian and owner, when the opportunity to take on this role presented itself for a second time, my husband and I decided we couldn't refuse the opportunity again. Over five years on and I do not regret the decision. We have worked extremely hard to bring some much needed changes and tender loving care to the place that I adore and I think it shows.

What makes this cottage unique

This is an ideal location for almost any group of people for any occasion. It is ideal for families, as there is so much you can do in the immediate areas of such simple pleasures, like exploring the beaches or country side, find the best rock pools or just befriending one of the many animals around. Its ideal if you need to study, work or just get away from it all, as its very peaceful and quiet, there is the convenience of the village if you need to meet people but here on the farm you can shut yourself away and be bothered by noone if thats your preference, and we are ideal for big parties or gatherings given our unique combination or cottages and garden areas providing the perfect location for walking groups, painting groups, yoga groups, birthday parties, weddings or a good old fashioned family get together just for the fun of it.

The cottages were well appointed and the setting was bucolic me scenic.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage we stayed in was spacious and matched the charm of the setting in which it is located. We took a two hour hike from the cottage to the beach. The host Jospephine spent time with us suggesting various activities in our short time there. We had a great time and would return.

Wonderful time in Connemara

  • 4 of 5

We had the most amazing time at the Cleggan Farm Holiday Cottages last summer. The setting is idyllic, the cottages are delightful and Josephine - who runs them - is a wonderful host. If you are considering renting a cottage I would definitely recommend it. You'll have an amazing time.
