About the property

4 Bedrooms & 3 Bathrooms (inc. Cottage) & stunning sea view

This unique detached property has been designed to sleep up to 8 adults comfortably. Aside from the spacious house is a partially self contained detached cottage, sleeping 2 adults with a decent sized bathroom and 2 decking areas.

The well equipped Kitchen includes a dishwasher, oven, and a large fridge/freezer. A coffee maker, toaster, blender and other small appliances have also been added for your convenience. The cupboards are well stocked with pots, pans, plates, glasses and plastic drink wear. The Kitchen has a lovely cottage feel to it. Lovely granite work tops, complete with a window seat and a Cottage Island table perfect for cooking or simply creating cooling cocktails whilst socializing with friends & family. A dining table and chairs are also located in the Kitchen and ample pantry space with a built in wine rack. A separate utility room houses the washing machine and dryer. A large Barbeque is also available on the covered patio to the Kitchen area.

The main house has a fabulous sized wraparound patio to the Living area. The main living room having 3 large French doors opening onto the covered patio creating an airy and spacious outdoor living feeling. Satellite TV is also provided. The main patio looks out to the well maintained garden were the vibrant turquoise colour of the Ocean nearby is visible. The French doors on the west side of the living area has an extended patio area to the very private Pool. The Pool is not overlooked and also has a patio table/umbrella and chairs perfect for outside dining. Hidden away in the tropical garden is a Gazebo, a place to relax and unwind with early evening champagne cocktails!

There is also an outside shower located in the small courtyard by the kitchen, handy to wash the sand off your feet from the local beach!

The large Master bedroom has beautiful Ocean views and a good size en-suite bathroom. Ample wardrobe and drawer space are available. The other two bedrooms are a double size. One bedroom having two single beds and the other a double sized bed. All bedrooms have ceiling fans and AC. A separate shower room is also available. There is also an open landing area with a computer desk and wi fi availability.

The smaller cottage has two single beds and a kitchenette consisting of Fridge/freezer/microwave/kettle/toaster and sink. A decent size shower room is off the main studio area.

Off road parking is also available, access to the garage is from the Kitchen patio through a small courtyard. The garage is located at the far side of the house, around the corner to the main front gates.

On the cliff side at the back of Dawlish is a very old beach house called Plymouth House owned by an old Barbadian family. No longer habitable it is one of the original houses built on the coastline complementing the rustic feel to the cliff tops.

A wonderful place to stay

We arrived at the house (got lost first since we found the directions a little confusing) and was met by Jan who provided us with a tour and the keys. She also had done a very small grocery list for us (submitted in advance) so we didn't have to immediately run to the grocery story. The house is large and we were pleased to find the pictures actually reflected the property accurately. The only exception was the beach which looked like we were on the water but in fact is a two minute walk away. Sitting on the large covered deck we thoroughly enjoyed the breeze off the ocean which you can see easily. The walk to the beach (not for swimming) is a public access walkway so there is always someone going by. This is NOT a problem though since there is a full privacy fence. The house itself is a good size, beds are very comfortable and the pool is a nice size.

The a kitchen is huge. It is well equipped with everything you need. A couple of small issues. The toaster was terrible and you had to fight to pop up the bread. We ended up buying a new toaster which we left there as a donation. Another issue was the oven which wasn't giving much heat. A quick call to Jan and she arranged to have that fixed the next day. Last issue - All the cutting knives really need to be sharpened. We have already mentioned this to Jan so will assume she will take care of it.

During the month's stay, we had the house cleaned three times and the pool and yard work done twice. All was done with minimal intrusion and the people were super polite and friendly.

As for location, it is isolated from shops and services. Tourist areas are on the other side of the island. We knew this going in so am not complaining. However if you are not renting a car, your only option it to take a taxi. The taxi's will range anywhere from $50.00 to $80.00 local currency to get anywhere but it does save you from driving on the left side of the road if you are not comfortable doing that.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it. If you want somewhere quiet this place is excellent.

Owner's Response: Thank you Sue for taking the time to write a review. Oh dear, I am sorry you found the directions to Dawlish confusing. In the 5 years I have provided the directions (never changed them!!) no one has pointed out difficulties or been delayed arriving at Dawlish! I do hope it did not spoil your arrival at Dawlish too much. I try to point out landmarks rather than street names as a lot of the roads are not clearly marked here in Barbados or they have faded in the sunshine. However I am pleased you found Dawlish overall comfortable & a good size property for your 4 week duration. My apologies that we were not aware the Toaster was faulty or knives needed sharpening from previous Guests.....whilst Jan has a mammoth task ensuring all appliances/large and small are in working order, down to light bulbs!, some items can be missed. However I know Jan is first on hand if anything does need attention. Saying that, Thank You for highlighting certain issues, something we will make a point of checking - as you know, the kitchen has a large range of cooking utensils!! I did have the pleasure of corresponding with Geoff who made the booking initially. I try to be very candid in my responses to questions asked, ranging from beach access/swimming to the Villa itself. As you say, you were aware the location of Dawlish (in Bel Air), is in a very quiet & tranquil location. The website does say a vehicle is recommended & I always highlight that requirement in my correspondence. Geoff kindly confirmed that the information I gave him was accurate as to what to expect from Dawlish. Clean, bright and sunny

This home was just as described. You can see the clear blue ocean from the house. The kitchen had everything we needed and we used the grill several times as well. The outdoor area from the couches, to the chairs and tables, to the pool is a fantastic area. It is in a very quiet neighborhood with a small convenience store nearby and a large grocery store only about 15 minutes away. Lorraine is extremely helpful from booking this trip until arrived. At that point Jan took over and was always available to answer any questions we had. We would love to go back.

Great place

Great place to stay, there was 7 adults and there was plenty of room for all, we rented the Cottage as well. We spent a lot of time outside, there was all kinds of places to hang out in the beautiful yard. One thing that was a very pleasant surprise was the view from the back yard of the ocean, it was exceptional. Pictures of the home did not do the property justice. We have been renting houses for years now and are a bit picky, we know what we are wanting in a holiday home and this is one of the better ones out there. Thanks Lorraine.

Fabulous

The photos don’t do this place justice. The house is situated in a quiet location literally a stones throw from a quiet beach. Every morning we wandered to the beach with a coffee in hand to watch the sunrise, it was nothing short of perfect.

Our party consisted of 6 adults and 2 children and due to size of the property we never felt cramped as there was lots of space both inside and out.

The property has absolutely everything we needed, the owners have thought of everything.

Booking and communication with Lorraine couldn’t have been easier and nothing was too much trouble.

Jan and John were equally as helpful ensuring our arrival and departure went without hitch.

We will definitely be returning here again.

Picture, Breezy, Quiet and PERFECT

My Family stayed for Christmas 2017 ( 9 days) and it was the BEST getaway. Half of us arrived from the US on the 20th on a 5am flight and Lorraine was AMAZINGLY accommodating. The pictures are not doing the property any real justice. From the moment that you walk in the views are breath taking, the property is kept in top notch space, it felt like home. We spent some days just hanging out at the property and there was enough space for everyone to do their own thing. Morning walks on the beach ( make sure to climb to the top of the rock) was refreshing and you get to chat with other neighbors. Overall, everything that you need is accessible, 15 minutes from the airport, a short walk to the city bus ( the kids were excited to commute this way). We will be back in the future! So we recommend this clean, quiet, private, cozy cottage/villa if you're looking to get away and Lorraine is the best hostess you can ask for!

Welcome to Dawlish Cottage! Located in the quiet Bel Air area on the south-east coast of Barbados. This unique private property with an additional cottage sleeps up to 8 adults. Imagine a stunning beach with rugged coves & amazing views through the back gates of your own garden! Dawlish beach is a stone throw away! The Crane resort is a few minutes away by car or taxi offering a choice of 3 restaurants and duty free shopping. Crane Beach being named as “one of the Ten Best Beaches in the World” by Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, is particularly spectacular.

There are several other beaches and bays within the immediate area: Sam Lords Castle, Harrismith, Palmetto and Long Bay are also stunning beaches. Another 20 minutes drive away you can be enjoying the hustle and bustle of the South Coast. The beaches are a lot busier, although the ocean can be a lot calmer than the rugged South East coast.

The airport is situated approximately 15 minutes away and the capital, Bridgetown (for Duty Free Shopping) , around 30 minutes from the Bel Air neighbourhood. 10 minutes drive takes you to Emerald City, here you have 2 Banks, a well stocked Supermarket and a Post Office.

Barbados has warm weather year round with temperatures not usually ever dropping below the mid-70's (27-30 degrees centigrade). The gentle Atlantic breeze on this side of the island means that even on the hottest days the temperatures are comfortable. Anytime of the year is a good time to visit. But particularly wonderful in the winter months with a cooling breeze from the Trade winds. No wonder the island is packed with so many people who come from all over the world between January and March. If you are looking for a place to stay plan ahead at Dawlish Cottage, especially for popular spring break weeks and at Easter time.

Barbados is an island of FESTIVALS including: the Jazz Festival and wind surfing championships in January, Holetown Festival, Holders season and the Gold Cup in February and March, Gospelfest in May, the famous Crop Over celebrations from July to August, and the surfing championships in November.

For nightlife, about 20 minutes drive to the popular St Lawrence Gap. For fresh fish caught that day, the Oistins Fish Fry on a Friday evening is a hit with both tourists and locals alike.

This spacious home and attached quaint cottage would be perfect for Family reunions, or a Wedding Party, even having your own personalised ceremony at Dawlish Beach, such a beautiful setting. Dawlish Cottage would equally suit a romantic get away, for complete solitude and privacy.
