About the property

2 Bedroom Converted Farmhouse with Small Private Pool and Terrace

The Stonehouse is a converted 2 bedroom detached farm house nestled in the hillside with private swimming pool and secluded south facing terrace with panoramic view across tree tops towards Portimão, where the sea can be seen glistening on the horizon, yet is just minutes from the quaint market town of Monchique offering all the local amenites, restaurants, cafes and bars, with the added benefit of being only a 25 minute drive from the south coast beaches, or 35 minutes from the more secluded and picturesque west coast beaches.

The Stonehouse offers comfort, space, character and as much seclusion as you desire. Restaurants and traditional bars are a few minutes drive away or make use of the stone BBQ on the terrace or fully equipped kitchen.

Entering through the kitchen to the spacious living room with dining table, 4 dining chairs, sofa, 2 arm chairs, TV, Cd player & wood burning stove you can continue to enjoy the panoramic view.

Adjacent to the fully equipped kitchen which has a full electric cooker, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, Iron & board is a further bedroom which can accommodate 2 further people, either as a double, Twin or single.

Downstairs is the double bedroom (5ft wide bed) & bathroom (bath with shower over bath) toilet and basin, also housing a washing machine. All ground floor windows are fitted with fly screens.

Across the terrace is a small private swimming pool, perfect for cooling off on those gloriously hot sunny days! or just relax and enjoy the view in the shade of the old olive tree,

A patio table, parasol, 4 chairs, 3 sun loungers and stone BBQ are provided. Terraced gardens with wasing line. Hillside secluded location with stunning view.

For the winter months oil filled radiators are provided.

There is a weekly maid service

We purchased the Stonehouse in 2007 having spent a wonderful holiday there to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary.

We have continued to rent the property since we bought it and regularly visit to ensure the upkeep of the property is maintained.

Having never visited Portugal before we stayed at the Stonehouse to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary and fell in love with the house, location and area. As fate had it, it turned out that the property was for sale, so on a whim we decided it was to good a chance to miss and bought it!

The Stonehouse offers seclusion and privacy yet is within close proximaty to the quaint market town of Monchique that has all the amenities one requires when on holiday - cafes, restaurants, fruit/veg market, bank, chemist, butchers, souvenir shops and supermarket.

The view over the 'valley' towards Portimão and the south coast, just made us want to own this best of both worlds, seclusion but without being isolated. It is an ideal base to explore both the southern & western area of the Algarve,

Amanda and I are gradually coming back down to earth after another wonderful week at the Stonehouse. We were blessed by lovely weather (around 26-28 degrees - in the shade of the olive tree!) and apart from a couple of day trips we really did not feel the need to venture very far. In fact the best part about going out was coming back again to relax on the terrace, dip in the pool and admire the view! We love Monchique and the surrounding area, and think the Stonehouse itself is a very special place indeed, so many thanks for making it available.

The Stonehouse is ideally situated to visit the sandy beaches of the south coast or the more rugged secluded coastline of the west coast, both being within a 30 minute drive. The market town of Monchique is just a 10 minute drive, which has stunning views from both the peaks of Foia (the highest peak in the Algarve).& Picota. Caldas de Monchique (spa resort) Silves (castle) Portimao (19km), Lagos (zoo), Cape St Vincent - the most westerly point of Europe, Albufeira (zoo marine - where you can swim with the dolphins, during the summer season) & Pera - site of the international sand sculptures all within easy reach. A perfect location to visit most of the Algarve region.

Lovely quiet getaway

This is a great little house for a getaway. It is a short drive from the town of Monchique and the views from the terrace are truly gorgeous. Pool was small but is all you need really, unless you want to start swimming lengths! The lounge was comfy and kitchen perfectly adequate. Kept in a lovely condition. Main bedroom is downstairs next to the bathroom and with plenty of hanging space and drawers. Only criticism would be the bed is very hard. If you are wanting nightlife, bars etc then this isn't the place for you but if you want peace and quiet, great views and a real sense of this part of Portugal then this is a top choice. Easy drive from Faro Airport makes life easy as well. highly recommended and hope to return again.

Loved it!

My husband and I spent 4 nights at the Stonehouse during our 2 week trip around the southern part of Portugal. The only complaint I have is that we didn't have enough time here. We did several day trips i.e. to Albuferia for a cruise, to Salema, etc. It was about 40 minutes to these sites. Then we got to return the Stonehouse to relax for the evening to relax. The nearby town of Monchique had a grocery store so we stocked up on what we needed there. We had an evening meal in the town a couple of nights. Meals were delicious and reasonably priced. Sadly, I don't have the names of the places we choose. My bad....The house had everything we needed to prepare meals if we chose to. So much information in the binders at the house about local attractions, maps, restaurants. Those were an excellent resource. The house is in a very quiet location. I honestly wasn't sure our GPS knew what it was doing when we were first heading there. But we were rewarded at the end of the drive. I would recommend this location for a couple looking for a quiet relaxing visit to the area. The outdoor seating area and pool were just so perfect with the lovely view of the valley below. I can't say enough positive things. I would love to go back someday. We shall see. Thank you to Mark & Sharon for offering this place to travelers to this area. We certainly enjoyed our time at the Stonehouse.

Peaceful place with spectacular views, away from the crowds

The house is spacious and nicely furnished with a wonderful outside patio and private pool.

There are lots of interesting places to visit nearby and for those who like to walk a good choice of trails, both in the hills and on the nearby coast. Provisions for self catering can be found in Monchique or in some of the towns close by. Weather was very warm for our stay, and the greenery and shade around the house kept it comfortable, and cool enough for sleeping .

lovely and calm house in the hills with perfect view on the ocean

We stayed one weekend at this very lovely and calm house in the hills nearby Caldas de Monchique and it was wonderful. The house itself has a very comfortable king size bed and another room with two single beds, a beautiful decorated living room with a chimney, a bathroom with tub and washing-machine and a very nice terrasse (where we spend most of the time) with a breathtaking view on the hills and the ocean plus a BBQ-place, pool and an olive tree placed in the middle.

The kitchen has all kinds of dishes/cutlery you need but you should bring your own oil, spices etc. with you. It is small but worked perfectly out for us to prepare yummy meals.

The hosts wrote us a lot of information and there are several books with information about the hosue itself and the surrounding area. Mark and Sharon and are very friendly and helpful. The contact (email) was very personally and profesional at the same time.

We started to relax the moment we step onto the terrasse. It is perfect for kids (including child safety at the indoor stairs), we did a nice walk of 1,5 h to Caldas de Monchique, lots of BBQ and enjoyed the impressive starry sky with shooting stars at night.

Pleasant

We had a pleasant stay. The location and the terrace area is very nice, but inside the house could perhaps use some updating. The lounge and main bedroom are spacious. The second bedroom got very hot [it was 38c each day], and the kitchen had minimal counter space and a small fridge. More toilet rolls, bin liners, etc were needed.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review Tom. The Stonehouse is a 70+ year old property. We feel it has a character of it's age. The photos on on page we hope give guests a true picture of it's layout. Fans are provided for use to circulate air & should provide some comfort at night, but the hotter the temperature, the hotter the air, which we have no control over. We are looking into refurbishing the kitchen, but it is a typical Portuguese small kitchen, which can be short on counter space. We do have a small table/veg rack on wheels that can be moved around to ease this situation. We have not received any comments about the size of the fridge before. As regard to the toilet rolls & bin bags it is stated in the T&C's that toilet roll is only provided for arrival, & bin bags will be replaced when the maid cleans. We will certainly take your comments on board & try to address as many as possible. Thank you once again, & nice to hear that you all had a pleasant stay. Kind regards Mark & Sharon

A stunning view and perfect solitude.

We loved the Stonehouse and especially the terrace for the view and its tranquility. The pool allowed us to cool off as was frequently needed and we really had no reason to do anything other than enjoy the house and it's near surroundings.
