Summer: Samoens is thriving in summer and offers a truly excellent holiday destination for family activities. With average temperatures in the mid to late 20s and numerous activities on our doorstep, it's a holiday not to be missed. With the Grand Massif Express lift now open in summer, you can easily enjoy: Mountain biking, hiking, climbing, rafting and other river activities, quad biking, horse riding, canoeing, swimming in lakes, adventure parks, parapenting, archery, golf driving range, historic tours, botanical gardens, waterfalls, nature reserve, wildlife walks, kids club etc... These are all within 5 minutes of Samoens! A little further afield is Annecy, Geneva and Chamonix Mont Blanc. If this is all too much, then simply relax in the numerous cafes and even at the beaches that surround the local lakes. It’s not essential to drive, but in summer a car is useful and we are only 8 hours drive from Calais. Airport transfers can also be provided and a taxi service operates in Samoens.

About Miriam Shaw

Hello and welcome to our site .

Our family consists of Andrew , Miriam and Ben Shaw and we live in Chester.

We bought La Rashe in 2005 after spending many happy holidays in Samoens and Chamonix.

In the winter we all enjoy ski ing and our son Ben is a member of The English Schools Ski Squad . In Summer Samoens is a fun 'outdoor life ' destination and our favorite activities are mountain bike, climbing , water ski ing and just enjoying the lovely mountain walks in the area. We also play golf and are often invited to join in The Peak Performance Golf Days held in Chamonix

Miriam Shaw purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Miriam Shaw chose Flaine - Grand Massif

We bought La Rashe because its light and spacious with amazing uninterupted views. Its only 200m from The Grand Massif Lift and an easy 300m walk into the village. Its on a very quiet no through road.

What makes this apartment unique

Its open fire and views sold it to us on the spot .

Excellent Location, Spacious Apartment

  • 4 of 5

We were really pleased with our stay. The location is ideal, an easy, level walk to the Gondola station and a pleasant walk into the town centre. The Kitchen/Breakfast Room is a good size and well equipped and the Lounge and master bedroom really spacious compared to other ski apartments we have stayed in. We liked the open fire which we used a couple of times and that the flat is double aspect with great views of the mountains. The garage was really handy as it snowed during our stay and also no need to de-ice the car when we left early on the last day.

The town itself was lovely, character buildings, good range of shops and restaurants and a nice wine bar. Highly recommended

Spacious well located apartment.

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for a week from 23/1/16, the lift is a 5 minute walk and there were no queues for the lift, the best skiing was in Flaine which takes a little while to get to but conditions were good higher up, snow was less good lower down due to warm weather.

The town center was a 10 minute walk , there is a reasonable selection of restaurants but it is worth booking, most bars seemed to close fairly early.

The apartment is very spacious with kitchen dinner and separate lounge, the main bedroom is large although the second is a little cramped.

Transfer from Geneva is very straight forward and took about 1 hour.

Overall good apartment, easy to reach with good skiing but queues may be more of a problem in busier weeks.

Perfect Apartment and Location

  • 5 of 5

We had a family group of five staying in this superb apartment for two weeks this summer. Everything was perfect; the accommodation was spacious and very well equipped and the location for the town and the local area couldn't have been better. La Rashe was quiet with beautiful views over the mountains in all directions. There are so many activities to do and places to see for a summer holiday. The apartment was recommended to us by our grown up children after they had spent a skiing holiday here this winter. We have been so pleased by our visit that we hope to return to ski ourselves.

Miriam couldn't have been more helpful and made us feel so welcome throughout our stay. Nothing was too much trouble for her; we were very grateful for her personal attention.

Quiet summer apartment

  • 5 of 5

It is a very spacious apartment, well positioned being both central but in a quiet location with beautiful views from the large windows and the balcony towards the mountains. Everything we needed was provided in the apartment and Miriam was very helpful before and during our stay. We loved the apartment, enjoyed all the local hikes and hope to return.

Perfect Apartment

  • 5 of 5

This place is brilliant. As there was no snow in the village we could walk right to the start of the gondola in 5 minutes and yet we were in a quiet secluded street. I don't think we heard another person all the time we were there. The apartment is lovely, very well looked after and with a fabulous log fire. There's also a little balcony with a couple of chairs that is perfect for a post ski beer or 3. The DVD selection is impeccable and there's also a fully loaded ipod! The easy stroll to (very quiet!) town takes less than 10 minutes but, word of advice, book for dinner. Owner Miriam is an utter pleasure to deal with. Nothing was too much trouble and she actually emailed me afterwards to ask for any tips on how to improve the place. Can't recommend this place enough.

If Carlsberg did ski accomodation......

  • 5 of 5

I have skied all over the world and stayed in catered chalets, small hotels, large hotels and anything in between, but this was the first time ski-ing with my Wife and 2 children {I took the kids by myself last year but this was the 1st time for the 4 of us a family} and this is the best place I have ever stayed in considering our requirements of needing something close to the town, close to the slopes, big enough for the 4 of us, wifi for the kids etc etc. We had good intentions of eating out at the restaurants in Samoens, but after a hard day on the slopes is was just too easy to re-heat a frozen meal we had taken with us from home, stick a DVD on, light the fire, put the onesie's on and make a dent in the 5 litre box of red we brought from the local Carrefour - it was heaven every night!!

We never actually got to meet Miriam the owner, but she was very helpful at all stages of the process including telling me where the logs were kept when we ran low - she was the perfect host even though she wasn't there!!

Would we go back? Well I have tried to book for next year and the year after!!!!!

Ski: Winter facts….The Grand Massif is the 4th largest ski area in France and has one of the lowest lift to beds ratios…so much smaller queues than other well know resorts. Samoens now has a high speed lift from 1600m up to 2500m…this means less queuing, less time on the lifts and more skiing!

We are also offering some fantastic alternative activities in the winter, so if you are a non skier there are plenty of other exciting things to take part in, why not try our snow shoeing trip for example...a fantastic experience after which you can enjoy a delicious Savoyard meal in a Yurt on the side of the mountain!
