A spacious house with a large terrace and lovely views of the vineyards and views to the river Mosel.from the lounge
The house is located in a quiet rural setting in Zell-Merl in the beautiful Mosel region between terraced vineyards and the river Mosel, surrounded by old historic houses & large vintner properties.
This recently renovated holiday home is suitable for larger groups or two families but equally suited to a couple. All rooms are a good size with a summer kitchen installed, ideal to prepare food for the BBQ as it leads directly to the large covered terrace. The house has been renovated in the last few years with new modern bathrooms installed. Recently, further renovations were carried out with new beds and furniture and a new second shower room. The upper floors at the front of the house offer a view of the river and the vineyards behind.

Like most English people, Germany isn't the usual place to visit but I'm so glad I did. Having visited other parts of the Mosel region we have found this area to offer peace and quiet but very close to everything you could want. This house a stones throw from the river and to the rear has good vineyard views. Plenty of sun makes this a very enjoyable place.
Wow !! What a fantastic house in perfect surroundings !! It's so roomy and comfortable. Stunning views, good wine, friendly people and lovely big beds to get into at the end of the day.
We've visited Trier, Bernkastel Kues, Koblenz, Cochem, the wonderful Beilstein and of course explored nearby. I may have put on a bit of timber after all the bratworst in rolls i've eaten...irresistible once you smell them ! We've hired bikes and cycled round in a big circle over the river. Even our five year old managed to keep up. Nice and gentle routes !
The playground nearby was spot on. We both could have a couple of glasses of wine in the Merl station by the car park while we kept an eye on them. There were also a couple of rope swings that the boys enjoyed daring each on....
We've been very fortunate with the weather, so have been out and about mostly, but we also swam at the local baths in Zell which was a good facility.
All in all a very memorable holiday!
Finally, I've attached a pic of my happy brood in the lounge. We're so pleased we found your place on the net. It's been simply fabulous. We'd really like to book up again for next year if you could advise of free dates in the Summer....Thanks again,
Arriving and entering the property is I should imagine like entering Dr Who's Tardis - it is very deceptive. It just keeps revealing floor after floor, spacious enough for all occupants - with multiple choices of bedroom configurations. It has a wonderful covered outdoor space, only thing lacking was electrical power to this space but an extension lead soon remedied this shortfall. The property is well equipped; we certainly didn't lack for anything during our stay.
It is ideally located for exploring the attractions from Koblenz to as far south down the Mosel as you should wish to travel in a day. Local facilities are superb, the Shopping Centre located across the river at Zell Barl meet all your everyday needs, plus the garage in Zell stocks those items you may run out off when the everyday shops are closed.
The Zell Motorboat Club - a floating bar, situated on the river opposite the property was ideal for a pint or a glass of wine after a days excursions with very friendly and efficient service.
All in all I would recommend this property very highly and if I were to return to this area would certainly look to book it again if it where available. Many thanks Paul for providing a perfect spot for enjoying a vacation on the Mosel.
Our stay in Zell was heaven. The property was very large and had everything you would need. It is in walking distance to river and town.
The owner and local contact were very helpful.
The location was quiet and peaceful and had beautiful walks in the hills and down by the river. Hiring bikes was a brilliant way to travel further down the river and Cochem a short drive away.
Really enjoyed the local wine!
Would love to come back again one day.
We booked Paul’s property on the strength of the previous reviews and am pleased to echo the comments of his previous guests. Located in Zell Merl which is a small suburb from the centre of Zell, around 1.5km away. There is no grocery shop in Zell Merl (but there are lots of places to do wine tasting) but there are a couple of restaurants and a bike hire shop nearby. There is an Aldi, Lidl and Globus around 5kms away over the Mosel, up the hill in Zell Barl to get essential provisions.
The property itself was immaculate when we arrived – clean, with everything in its place. The garage was big enough to swallow my Ford S-Max, a cycle carrier plus four big bikes and still have plenty of space.
The first floor holds the kitchen with dining room table, the laundry room, a shower room and a large bedroom with a double bed and a single. Up to the second floor where we find the lounge (with a good size TV and DVD player), another shower room with a bath another double bedroom and a small corridor (with a beer / wine cooler) that provides access to the outdoor, covered patio (8 seats, large table, barbecue, clothes drying zone, plenty of space to walkaround) which is at the back of the house giving a view of the vineyards on the slopes. Top floor was a third bedroom with a double bed and single.
There was plenty of crockery and the dishwasher was a welcome sight.
Cycling was really easy – out of the garage, left for 50m, right for 30m and on to the banks of the Mosel. There are some very pretty villages that are within easy reach by bike on the Mosel (Reil, Punderich, Enkirch, Alf, Neef, Bremm) and some interesting sights too (the lock at Sankt Aldegund, vineyards at Carmont). The centre of Zell is well worth a visit too with lots of restaurants, an indoor swimming pool, wine probes, interesting buildings and a super bakery. Further afield we went to Trier, Bernksatel-Kues (Kues is very pretty with lots of wonky buildings but the old train station building in Bernkastel and is now a restaurant is superb), Beilstein, Traben-Trarbach, Burg Eltz – all worth visiting.
One other attraction that is about an hour away is the recently built suspension bridge across the Geierlay canyon – it’s the longest in Germany.
Final thoughts go to Paul who was superb at communicating, giving us plenty of advice, hints and tips and getting back to us with speedy responses to our questions – excellent.
Overall, 5 out of 5. One of the best holidays we've had.
The property is located in a small village, unfortunately lacking a shop for essentials (get basic provisions before you arrive !!) but containing a couple of restaurants, bars and bike hire shop.close enough to Zell to walk comfortably along the river bank or cycle. Bullay for the train connection is an easy cycle the other direction.
The house is a good base to explore from, we walked and cycled both directions on the Mosel, enjoyed the flat cycling and steeper winery paths.the 3 hour cruise from Cochem to Zell is a nice way to return after cycling there ,go early if you want time in Cochem our boat left at @3pm.Go to the tower above Alf spectacular 360 views over the Mosel meanders.
The house is spacious with 3 large bedrooms, over 3 floors well equipped, clean and comfortable.plenty of hot water and a large garage for storing bikes.it was easy to access.
For our group a taxi worked out cheaper than the bus from Hahn Airport, they are really well geared for the tourist in the region, bring your translation dictionary alot of the information signs etc are not translated (which is nice in it's own way!)
A nice area for a quiet holiday and a nice house to be based in.we enjoyed our 4 days.
The house is well equipped, spacious with a lovely terrace overlooking the wine slopes of the Moselle region and has two well equipped bathrooms..
Bike rental across the street (also e-bikes) and the bike ride to Traben Trarbach is loverly along the banks of the river (and for people not wanting to cycle back there is the alternative of a Moselle-cruise).
Nice restaurants are nearby (the Buerger-Stube at less than 10 minutes walking serves lovely elephant ears) and a quick sip can be taken at the former station of the 'drinkers-railroad' just around the corner.
A nice stroll along the Moselle banks brings you within 30 minutes from Zell-Merl to Zell-Centre which has numerous nice terraces and restaurants.
Shopping can be done at nearby Zell-Barl and the meat sizzles nicely on the barbecue on the terrace of the house with a cool glass of wine at hand taken from the wine-fridge at the kitchenette next to the terrace.
A well recommended place for a few days, a week or even longer.
the property has everything that you will need and more, theres more than enough crockery and cutlery. the house is in the middle of a small village and is on three floors, in fact four if you count the garage space. two groups could almost live independently as there are two bathrooms a kitchen and a mini kitchen that is off the terrace we kept a supply of biscuits and tea making equipment there as we used to finish the day off on the terrace very nice area and big we even used it when it rained as it is completely dry, for us we would have liked a mini fridge there but no big deal, the garage is large with plenty of room to get your bikes in and out with the car in there. showers are powerful and constant hot water no adjusting all the time like most i've been to, thats it for the house i think 10 out of 10 if you find fault with this you really should change your holiday type. the village is small with not a lot going for it, there is a bike hire across the road at about 9 euros a day we hired for two weeks so got it a bit cheaper, this area is a bikers paradise you should really do it, no hills and a wide tow path both sides of the river for almost the complete length, we have never done biking before and loved it, if you come out of the house turn left a few yards and there is a gap between houses that leads to the river turn right and a few yards up there is a boat that sells beer no food but the beer is cold and cheap and not far to stagger back also only plays 60s english music. boats leave from zell a mile or so up the road bike up there lock them up somewhere theres loads of bike racks and ride the boat somewhere, if you go to bernkastel where the boat docks theres a restaurant called biker station go in there dont worry its not full of bikers at least not when we went, but the food and service were the best. we dont speak german but found every one we met very friendly and helpful in fact i think we have more fun not speaking the language anywhere we go the locals seem to have fun trying to teach us. we also found it far cheaper than expected a lot cheaper than italy we found. i could go on and on but the bottom line is this was one of the best holidays we have had and even run out of time to do everything so we will definitely be back to the area maybe this year
