PRIVATE STRUCTURE. The recent renovation of an old ruin, once used as stables, gave rise to Monterzi, a pretty farmhouse perched on top of a hill, in a discreet position in a property surrounded by vineyards and olive trees yet not far from the lively medieval borgo of Montisi, just a short, pleasant walk away, and from San Giovanni d'Asso, famous for the production of the delicious white truffle. During the restoration works, the stone turret, which was originally the main body of the structure, was expanded and completely renovated in accordance with the typical Tuscan style, rendering the interior comfortable and functional. From the top of the hill on which the house stands an extraordinary 360° panorama opens out: directly in front is the picturesque village of Montisi then, turning one’s gaze towards the west, is the magical lunar landscape of the Crete Senesi and then, towards the east one’s gaze travels slowly across Radicofani, in admiration of the geometry and the ever-changing shades of colours of the entire Val d'Orcia, to Montalcino beneath the towering background of Mount Amiata, creating an impressive backdrop which represents the authentic, seductive essence of the territory of Siena. Thanks to the excellent road network, the house is the perfect starting point for visiting the major art cities of the region, such as Siena and Florence, and the borghi of greater artistic interest, like Montalcino, Pienza, San Quirico d'Orcia, Montepulciano and Trequanda, and also for relaxing at the excellent thermal spas of Rapolano Terme, Bagno Vignoni and San Casciano dei Bagni.

Interior

The house has two floors, connected both internally and externally by staircases and, being built on sloping ground, both floors have direct access to the outside. The main entrance is on the ground floor consisting of the living room with dining area, a double bedroom, a twin bedroom with joinable beds (with direct access to the outside through a French window) and a bathroom with shower. A short flight of stairs leads down to the lower floor with laundry and kitchen with direct access, through a French window, to the outdoor dining area.

Park

The house is set in an estate of about two hectares, for the most part vineyards and olive groves which characterize the surrounding landscape. The park has various types of vegetation: along the paths inside the property, where guests can stroll in pleasant tranquillity, are a variety of native shrubs and tall trees, such as maples, holm oaks, chestnuts, old oaks, lindens and fruit trees such as fig, cherry, pear and peach. A shady old cypress growing in front of the outdoor dining area, equipped with table, chairs and brickwork barbecue, and bordered on one side by rose bushes, completes this ideal setting, where guests can enjoy delicious meals of typical Tuscan flavour.

Swimming Pool

The newly constructed swimming pool, about 15 m from the house, on a slightly lower level and wooden fenced, is south facing in a wonderful panoramic position over the Val d'Orcia. The rectangular-shaped pool, with a ladder for access to the water, measures 4 x 8 m with a constant depth of 1.10 m. It is lined in PVC and has chlorine purification. The sunbathing area surrounding it, paved in pink stone and bordered by lavender bushes on two sides, is provided with sunbeds and has a solar-heated shower.

LOCATION

Montisi is an ancient and small ridge top village of Etruscan origin, characterized by the typical landscapes of the country south of Siena, with steep slopes alternating with vast woodland areas and cultivated fields. It is situated in the geographical area known as the Crete Senesi (Siennese Clays) which includes the nearby villages of Buonconvento, Asciano, Monteroni d’Arbia and Rapolano and is characterized by clay hills and the so-called “biancane” which confer to the Crete Senesi the typical cuneiform reliefs. The area of the Crete Senesi represents an uncontaminated oasis with suggestive and ever-changing landscapes, in which the territory and environment have maintained, over the years, an integrity and a rare purity. From Montisi, where to find shops and restaurants at, it is easy to travel, thanks to the good road system, to interesting localities in the region: the nearby Val d’Orcia with its historical and artistic hamlets, but also Monteriggioni, San Gimignano, the villages of Chianti, Florence and many others. The area is very well served by motorway A1 (the nearest exit is Valdichiana) and easy to be reached from the main airports of the region, Firenze (about 130km) and Pisa (about 190 km).
