About the property

Chez Amis is our home from home in the Alps. It is a ground floor, two-bedroom chalet with a private entrance and a garden space with grass lawn (approx 50 sq meters). It is a spacious (56.6 sq meters) and well equipped, open-plan apartment - part of a three-storey traditional Savoie farmhouse renovated in the 1990’s. It has been furnished to a high specification with local pine furniture including an artisan dresser and table. The apartment is uncluttered with a touch of modern.

Chez Amis is well positioned for a stunning view of the Le Crioux and the Dents Blanches mountain range, which can be enjoyed from the garden. You can hike for miles from our doorstep, or have a barbeque on the small patio and relax on the sloping lawn taking in the view with a glass of local wine.

Chez Amis sleeps 4 to 6 people. We have a double room, twin room and a good double sofa bed (if sleeping up to six). Beds are made up before arrival - linens and bath towels are provided. A travel cot, high chair & buggy are available on request (at no extra cost - subject to availability).

There is a marvelous wood burning stove in the lounge with a cosy sofa, armchairs and foot rests. We have a good stereo with an iPod connection cable, plenty of games and a growing library of books, CD's and DVD's. WiFi is provided free of charge for the convenience of our guests.

The kitchen is fully fitted with a fridge, sink, oven, hob, dishwasher and new washing machine. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking and baking equipment. The kitchen / dining area are separated by a long breakfast bar with stools. The dining area seats 6.

The newly tiled bathroom comprises a bath with glass screened shower over the bath and a sink. There is a separate WC which has a sink.

The 'cave' (outside storage) contains outdoor furniture and a BBQ. It can also store bikes.

Inside the chalet there are sports equipment for our guests' use including a badminton set and various other racquets.

About Mrs Rachel Ivers

Chez Amis is owned by 3 friends with a shared vision of creating a home away from home for friends and families to share quality time without the distractions of everyday life.

Cannon is a Landscape Architect who enjoys photography, telemark skiing and playing guitar. Rachel is a Business Psychologist who loves the outdoors and Annie is a Dental Hygienist and netball player. Cannon & Rachel are married with two young children and live near London. Annie lives in Beijing, China.

Mrs Rachel Ivers purchased this chalet in 2006

Why Mrs Rachel Ivers chose Morillon

We love this area as it is 'authentically French', as well as stunningly beautiful. Although it has the third largest ski network in France (Grand Massif), ski passes are not as expensive as many of the other large resorts. The area is as good in Summer as it is in Winter with an extensive array of activities available.

Being less than an hour from Geneva airport, the transfer is short and its ideally situated for long weekends too.

What makes this chalet unique

This is our home from home and a wonderful escape from busy everyday life. The beautiful and peaceful surroundings are incredible. You can easily forget you are only 5 minutes away from the local amenities. The view from the garden is simply stunning and we can sit for hours taking in the beauty that surrounds us (even longer if we've got the BBQ going in Spring/Summer).

Chez Amis was lovingly restored by an Englishman who kept the Savoyade style of thick farmhouse walls and pretty shutters that help promote a good nights sleep. He used good quality materials and fittings for his restoration, including a cozy wood burning fire. We have kept that style and feel with our furnishings. Put simply : We love it!

Just what we required

  • 5 of 5

Lovely apartment that worked well for our needs - we drove from England for 4 days skiing over our daughter's birthday. Layout excellent for 2 couples. We cooked every night in well-equipped kitchen (even managed a birthday cake, of sorts!) and enjoyed the cosiness of the woodburner. Able to get warm and dry out our kit each night. Access to skiing was an easy 5 mins drive to the gondola in Morillon. Snowed hard the whole time - so great skiing but couldn't really appreciate the views! Thank you for sharing your holiday home.

Back for the 4th time and loved it as always

  • 5 of 5

We came back for a surprise long weekend for my partner's 40th, and even in late November, Chez Amis and its surroundings didn't fail to charm. Beautiful days ski touring in the Grand Massif, cozy fireside evenings, fresh pastries from the village bakery, yummy meals cooked in the perfectly kitted out kitchen, that priceless view of Le Criou in the sunset, runs in the forest just up the road and great sleep in comfy beds in the peace & quiet of Les Miaux. A straightforward hour's drive from Geneva, there was nowhere better to go for a short winter break with our toddler, who was thrilled to be reunited with the kids, cats, and dogs of Les Miaux.

Loved it so much we came back again :)

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great time here in January we came back again to catch the end of the ski season in March.

Once again, Chez Amis didn't disappoint. Just like last time, the place was welcoming and ready for us. We laughed at the other review pointing out the small toilet - you really don't need to spend much time in there! It's absolutely fine :)

Grand Massif still has a lot to offer in the late season, particularly the snow higher up in Flaine which you can access from the local lift in Morillon.

As it got warmer down in the valley we loved spending time at Lac Bleu. When you're in ski gear up the mountain in the morning and shorts and a t-shirt by the lake in the afternoon you know you're in a special place!

We're already planning to come back again in the early summer once the snow has gone.

Thanks again Chez Amis

Lovely, cosy, home away from home

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved staying at Chez Amis. It's such a great place.

When we arrived, it was lovely and warm in there, complete with chocolates on the pillow and a basket of food and wine which was very welcome after a long journey. Instantly felt so cosy, homely and a charming Savoyard style.

Top 5 things we particularly like about Chez Amis:

1: The incredibly well-equipped kitchen. If like us you enjoy cooking there's everything you need in there to cook up a storm.

2: Location is great - only 5 mins drive to the ski lift and the roads are cleared incredibly quickly when it snows. If you ever need a change from Grand Massif you have Les Gets and Morzine only 20 mins away.

3: The log burner gets the place really toasty even on extremely cold nights.

4: Comfy beds - much needed after a hard day's skiing.

5: The owners are very friendly and genuinely want to enjoy your stay.

Thanks Rachel, we will be back.

Cosy, well-equipped apartment in a peaceful location

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay at Chez Amis for an end of season ski week with our two children (7 & 5) in the Grand Massif. The property is located in a tiny hamlet - very peaceful and relaxing, no stress at all! A short stroll from the property we found a waterfall tumbling through the woods, which the kids enjoyed. The property is well equipped and so no problem with cooking for ourselves. There is a large wood burner and plenty of firewood for cold nights - we used it once and it creates a nice atmosphere. The owners are very attentive and accommodating and were keen that we enjoyed our stay - thank you Rachel! The weather was so good that we were able to enjoy the afternoon sunshine sat outside the front of the property. The WiFi was an added bonus and worked throughout our stay. All in all a great place for a family of four and at a good price. We will be looking to return next year.

Owner's Response: Thanks for taking the time to review your stay. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay. We are so sorry to hear you experienced problems with the internet connection, we've been in touch with Orange to resolve this. We are in the process of arranging a sliding door to allow more room in the WC - with such an old farmhouse, I'm sure you can understand our limitations. We assure you the toilet seat has now been replaced (previously, our handyman had had issues tracking the correct size screws). We hope you will consider staying at Chez Amis again in the future and don't forget you will have 15% off as a returning guest who has completed a review.

Chez Amis is set within the gorgeous cozy hamlet of Les Miaux. The chalet is an idyllic mountainside retreat that sits overlooking the beautiful Giffre River Valley. Chez Amis is situated 1km from the village of Morillon in the Haute Savoie (French Alps). Morillon is part of the Grand Massif, Europe’s third largest ski area, with 265km of ski slopes, accessed from the ski lift, 10-15 mins walk or 5 mins drive (free parking opposite the ski lift) from Chez Amis.

Being so close to Geneva means Chez Amis is perfect for long weekends all year round. Morillon is conveniently located between Geneva and Chamonix (both less than an hour away).

In the Winter months (Dec-Apr) both cross country and downhill skiing are the main attractions. Toboggan rides, snow shoeing, dog sledding, winter paragliding and adaptive skiing are also very popular and widely available here along with a variety of ski schools. The impressive Grand Massif rises to an altitude of 2500m and boasts 265km of pistes along with beginners areas, dedicated 'Kidz' zones and jam parks for snowboarders.

Morillon, which has many stunning tree lined runs, is linked by a series of lifts to 4 additional resorts: Samoens, Flaine, Six Fer A Cheval and Les Carroz, these 5 resorts combined make up the Grand Massif. The area offers great snow cover throughout the season (snow cannons for back up) with a variety of ski and snowboarding opportunities for all ages and levels.

From Morillon, you can purchase ski passes for the Massif (excluding Flaine) or the Grand Massif (all 5 resorts). There are some great offers available on ski passes throughout the year.

We have arranged for Chez Amis guests to receive a 15% discount on ski hire locally (ask us for details).

There are a host of Summer activities (available late spring, and autumn too) ranging from gentle to challenging walks, hiking and mountain biking with 650km of marked trails and downhill tracks. The region is an incredibly popular area for both mountain and road biking. It's home to some amazing road cycling routes, including one of the Tour de France stages.

Other activities include swimming and sunbathing by two local lakes, high rope adventure park, tennis, white water rafting, parapenting, Via ferrata, fishing, horse riding and mini golf. There are some beautiful golf courses within an hour’s drive.

Alternatively, for a more relaxed time, it’s a 10-minute stroll to our local village market for a variety of fresh local fruit, cheeses and meats (Wednesdays & Fridays) and boulangerie 'Tiffanie' for fresh bread and croissants every morning.

You can also spend time unwinding and relaxing, soaking up the Savoyard charm of the area from the garden with it's stunning views. Take time to walk along the river, peruse the local shops and stop at the nearby medieval village of Samoens with it's botanical gardens. The Telegraph once wrote about Samoens ''Here a botanical garden, gothic church, medieval squares, timber-fronted patisseries and picture-box houses make it one of the prettiest of the Alpine resorts'. The area is culturally rich with beautiful Haute Savoie villages to visit and explore, wine tasting tours and chateaux visits.

Chez Amis is the perfect location for day trips to the beautiful towns of Annecy, Evian, Lac Leman, Chamomix, Les Gets, Sixt-Fer-a-Cheval and Geneva.
