Exceptional Apartment in a Traditional Farmhouse with views over Giffre Valley

Overview

Property

Updated: 07-Dec-2016
Sleeps: 4 (6 with sofa bed), bedrooms: 2, bathrooms: 1 separate WC

Chez Amis is our home from home. It is a ground floor, two-bedroom chalet with a private entrance and a garden space with grass lawn (approx 50 sq meters). It is a spacious (56.6sq meters) and well equipped, open-plan apartment - part of a three-storey traditional Savoie farmhouse renovated in the1990’s. It has recently been furnished to a high specification with local pine furniture including an artisan dresser and table. The apartment is uncluttered with a touch of modern.

Chez Amis is well positioned for a stunning view of the Le Crioux and the Dents Blanches mountain range, which can be enjoyed from the garden. You can hike for miles from our doorstep, or have a barbeque on the patio and relax on the lawn taking in the view with a glass of local wine.

Chez Amis sleeps 4 to 6 people. We have a double room, twin room and a good double sofa bed (if sleeping up to six). Beds are made up before arrival - linens and bath towels are provided. A travel cot, high chair & buggy are available on request (at no extra cost - subject to availability).

There is a marvelous wood burning stove in the lounge with a cosy sofa, armchairs and foot rests. We have a good stereo with an iPod connection cable, plenty of games and a growing library of books, CD's and DVD's.

The kitchen is fully fitted with a new fridge, sink, oven, hob and dishwasher. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking and baking equipment. The kitchen / dining area are separated by a long breakfast bar with stools. The dining area seats 6.

The bathroom comprises a bath with glass screened shower over the bath and a sink. The separate WC also has a sink.

The 'cave' (outside storage) contains outdoor furniture and a BBQ. It can also store bikes.

All round excellent

  • 5 of 5

I went to Chez Amis in August this year. The apartment was really cosy and in a lovely part of the Morillon valley. I was very impressed how stocked the kitchen was and the games and books they had. That really helped to make it feel like home. I would definitely recommend hiring a car though even if the prospect of driving on backwards on the wrong side of the wrote terrifies you! All round excellent. Will definitely come back.

Peaceful and ideally situated

  • 4 of 5

Chez Amis was ideal for the two of us, easy walking distance to the village and, as we had visited the general area before , no need to travel any further than Sixt to walk the amazing Fer a Cheval. Going up on the Les Esserts Telesiege was a must, with a great meal at the top at L'Igloo [don't forget to book!]. The most memorable trip was to the top of the Chariande Telesiege from Samoens, the walk thru' the building site at the top of the cable lift was rather disheartening but worth it for the truly stupendous views at the very top, Mont Blanc and the Swiss peaks gleaming in the sun and acres of brilliantly coloured wild flowers all around. Samoens market and Botanic Garden were memorable too, as were the Mont Blanc beer, the local wines and the cakes from Tiffanies, sadly for the waistline.

And the view from the garden was lovely, if only there had been a really comfy chair or two to relax in and enjoy it after a mountain walk.

A very successful and enjoyable holiday, the apartment was sparkling clean but needed some small touches of maintenance to the furnishings [ loose drawer fronts and cupboard doors, a wobbly loo seat, and the pillow cases were too small which made the pillows extraordinarily hard, this sounds very niggly but there's nothing worse than a stiff neck...] but was extremely well equipped and the welcome pack of vital supplies was most appreciated.

Thank you , Rachel

A perfectly situated retreat in a lovely part of France

  • 5 of 5

We booked for the Tour de France which was in the area at the time we were staying. It proved an ideal location, with somewhere to come home to and relax and cook a nice meal with all the facilities a cook needs. For 4 of us we found the facilities good with a lovely functioning shower! We were sad to leave and no doubt be back in the area. I would highly recommend. Thank you for sharing your retreat.

The only comment is that with having an active cyclist with clothes to rinse through, we could have done with a spin dryer. But we got round that problem with a bit of thought.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for choosing to stay at Chez Amis and we are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. We were super disappointed to hear from your review about the 'niggles'. We have already got our handyman onto the things you mentioned and let our housekeeper know about the pillow situation. We aim to keep in close contact with all our guests and ask for you to text if there are any issues (however big or small) - we would have gladly given you a better fitting set of pillowcases. We do hope that you will choose to stay at Chez Amis again in the future and would welcome you back with the 15% discount for returning guests.

Lovely cozy, well equipped, home in a great location.

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed our weeks stay here, who he'd we used as a base for our MTB trips to Les Gets and the Portes Du Soeil area. Very convenient and very pretty.

The apartment was very homely and well equipped. Everything was clean and tidy and the little welcome basket of provisions was a nice touch which came in handy after our drive out. Lovely views of the Giffre valley on a nice tranquil setting. We will be back.

Our third visit, why would we return if it was not a good place to be? Log fire, well equiped kitchen, comfortable, good location, stunning views to the mountains, just what we were lookng for in a rental. Also easy owners to deal with.

Location

From the Owner

We love this area as it is 'authentically French', as well as stunningly beautiful. Although it has the third largest ski network in France (Grand Massif), ski passes are not as expensive as many of the other large resorts. The area is as good in Summer as it is in Winter with an extensive array of activities available. Being less than an hour from Geneva airport, the transfer is short and its ideally situated for long weekends too.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Geneva at 69 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Morillon at 1 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : Calais at 850 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Chamonix at 54 Kilometres Nearest Train : Cluses at 13 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : A40 at 13 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Morillon at 1 Kilometres Nearest Ski : Morillon at 1 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Lac Bleu at 1 Kilometres Car: recommended

Chez Amis is set within the gorgeous cozy hamlet of Les Miaux. The chalet is an idyllic mountainside retreat that sits overlooking the beautiful Giffre River Valley. Chez Amis is situated 1km from the village of Morillon in the Haute Savoie (French Alps). Morillon is part of the Grand Massif, Europe’s third largest ski area, with 265km of ski slopes, accessed from the ski lift, 10-15 mins walk or 5 mins drive (free parking opposite the ski lift) from Chez Amis.

Being so close to Geneva means Chez Amis is perfect for long weekends all year round. Morillon is conveniently located between Geneva and Chamonix (both less than an hour away).

In the Winter months (Dec-Apr) both cross country and downhill skiing are the main attractions. Toboggan rides, snow shoeing, dog sledding, winter paragliding and adaptive skiing are also very popular and widely available here along with a variety of ski schools. The impressive Grand Massif rises to an altitude of 2500m and boasts 265km of pistes along with beginners areas, dedicated 'Kidz' zones and jam parks for snowboarders.

Morillon, which has many stunning tree lined runs, is linked by a series of lifts to 4 additional resorts: Samoens, Flaine, Six Fer A Cheval and Les Carroz, these 5 resorts combined make up the Grand Massif. The area offers great snow cover throughout the season (snow cannons for back up) with a variety of ski and snowboarding opportunities for all ages and levels.

From Morillon, you can purchase ski passes for the Massif (excluding Flaine) or the Grand Massif (all 5 resorts). There are some great offers available on ski passes throughout the year.

We have arranged for Chez Amis guests to receive a 15% discount on ski hire locally (ask us for details).

There are a host of Summer activities (available late spring, and autumn too) ranging from gentle to challenging walks, hiking and mountain biking with 650km of marked trails and downhill tracks. The region is an incredibly popular area for both mountain and road biking. It's home to some amazing road cycling routes, including one of the Tour de France stages.

Other activities include swimming and sunbathing by two local lakes, high rope adventure park, tennis, white water rafting, parapenting, Via ferrata, fishing, horse riding and mini golf. There are some beautiful golf courses within an hour’s drive.

Alternatively, for a more relaxed time, it’s a 10-minute stroll to our local village market for a variety of fresh local fruit, cheeses and meats (Wednesdays & Fridays) and boulangerie 'Tiffanie' for fresh bread and croissants every morning.

You can also spend time unwinding and relaxing, soaking up the Savoyard charm of the area from the garden with it's stunning views. Take time to walk along the river, peruse the local shops and stop at the nearby medieval village of Samoens with it's botanical gardens. The Telegraph once wrote about Samoens ''Here a botanical garden, gothic church, medieval squares, timber-fronted patisseries and picture-box houses make it one of the prettiest of the Alpine resorts'. The area is culturally rich with beautiful Haute Savoie villages to visit and explore, wine tasting tours and chateaux visits.

Chez Amis is the perfect location for day trips to the beautiful towns of Annecy, Evian, Lac Leman, Chamomix, Les Gets, Sixt-Fer-a-Cheval and Geneva.

Facilities

From the Owner

This is our home from home and a wonderful escape from busy everyday life. The beautiful and peaceful surroundings are incredible. You can easily forget you are only 5 minutes away from the local amenities. The view from the garden is simply stunning and we can sit for hours taking in the beauty that surrounds us (even longer if we've got the BBQ going in Spring/Summer). Chez Amis was lovingly restored by an Englishman who kept the Savoyade style of thick farmhouse walls and pretty shutters that help promote a good nights sleep. He used good quality materials and fittings for his restoration, including a cozy wood burning fire. We have kept that style and feel with our furnishings. Put simply : We love it!
