Sleeps 6 - Secluded Cottage, Mersea, short & long breaks, WiFi. OWN BEACH HUT

Overview

Property

Updated: 16-Nov-2016
Romantic holiday retreat, suitable for families and couples. Sleeps 6. BEACH HUT

Includes COMPLEMENTARY use of 'High Hoe Hut' a FRONT ROW BEACH HUT at West Mersea, your children will love it (and the adults!)

Phil & Carol invite couples & families to stay at their romantic holiday retreat for short and long breaks. Lying only 1 hours drive from the M25, ‘High-Hoe’ in the East of Mersea Island is the perfect escape from the stresses of the modern world.

Ideally placed for cycling, walking and wildlife. Additionally enjoy 'High Hoe Hut' a front row beach hut at West Mersea for a traditional beach holiday.

A very old dwelling that almost fell down, it has been rescued, lovingly restored and modernised. Essentially a thatched cottage in a wood it dates back some 500 years when it started life as a tiny medieval hall.

If you’re looking to escape a hectic life or want a romantic break or perhaps just to get away from it all, ‘High Hoe’ is waiting for you!

Chances are you’ll be amazed at the sight of a hunting barn owl or one of the newly introduced red squirrels, see no one other than the occasional walker and be woken only by the wind in the trees or the sounds of nature. 'High Hoe Hut' is a short drive away at West Mersea Beach.

This is secret Essex, remote but accessible and remarkably a range of beaches, shops, pubs and restaurants including the world famous Company Shed, are all within 5 to 15 mins drive.

High Hoe is suitable for up to 4 adults and 2 younger children. A highchair is available on request. There are 2 upstairs bedrooms which have a white washed loft feel and a single bedroom downstairs which has french doors to the lawn. There is one small downstairs wet room. An open plan kitchen and dinning area with double french doors to the garden, gives on to a beamed sitting room and inner hall. Outside is a very private garden and parking for two vehicles.

‘High Hoe’ Cottage is situated at the far end of Shop Lane, the final approach is a passable unmade road adding to the sense of seclusion. The cottage is only 200 metres from the coastal path and Cudmore Grove Country Park lies a further mile along the path. Sorry no pets and non smokers only.

Fairy tale cottage

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed a peaceful 3 night stay here. Situated at the end of a single track road, the cottage is laid back from the track and surrounded by trees. It is a peaceful location, ideal for walks and relaxation. No facilities locally, car is needed for shops, though there is an excellent pub at the end of the road (approx 20 minute stroll) which serves very good food.

The cottage itself is well equipped, with comfy beds, and is warm and cosy. Quirky in places, which adds to the charm. The surrounding garden is a haven for wildlife.

The beach hut is a short drive away, and very well kept.

This break will suit families, as the cottage is good for children, they will have freedom running around the garden or spending time on the beach. Also suitable for those wanting to explore the Essex coast and countryside, and for people wanting a relaxing break.

Thoroughly enjoyed our mini break, and would recommend to anyone. The pictures do not do it justice.

Super relaxing and gorgeos

  • 5 of 5

The picturesque cottage was beautifully presented and ideally located for a complete get away! It was idyllic with all the requirements you could wish for to make for an enjoyable and comfortable stay.

The large bed was a dream, with crisp white sheets and a wonderful feather duvet to keep the winter chill away.

It is situated down a quiet road surrounded by trees and wildlife and you are not overlooked at all, apart from the very occasional dog walker across the fields.

The cottage is a short walk away from the sea wall, but it was too chilly for us to enjoy this for any length of time due to the time of year.

We had a wonderful seafood meal at a quirky little restaurant called Mehalah's as The Company Shed was full on both occasions that we tried to get in. Mehalahs has the same owners as The Company Shed, so the seafood was as good and wonderfully fresh.

The Dog & Pheasant that is just around the corner from the cottage serves good traditional "pub grub" and is very friendly and full of locals.

This cottage was gorgeous and we will definitely return.

Lovely place to get away from it all

  • 4 of 5

We had a very enjoyable stay at High Hoe Cottage. We found the place to be cosy, clean and well equipped for our needs with a cot and high chair supplied on request. Staying at High Hoe made us feel we were 'away from it all' but with the added benefit of being 5 minutes drive to the centre of town. We particularly enjoyed our daily visit from a gang of grouse? partridge? who would wander around the garden at about 6 o'clock every day and we were lucky enough to see a red squirrel on our last day.

Beautifully presented & wonderfully located.

We know Mersea pretty well but never discovered this little gem before. You feel as if you are at worlds end but are only a few minutes from everything. We love all the bustle of West Mersea Hard, The Victory, The Company Shed and all that but within minutes you are totally private with your own quiet space. High Hoe had everything we needed, a dreamy double bed and the kids loved their story book bedroom. The Red Squirrel in the garden was the icing on the cake!
