7 Bedroom, 5 Bathroom, Detached Chalet (175m2) In Ski Paradise Alpe D'Huez

Sportchalet 33, is located 50 metres from the baby ski lift and about 300 metres from the 2 cabin lifts, where the gondolas take you straight to the heart of one of the most beautiful ski resorts of France. Fine restaurant and bar at the end of the street (50 metres). You can park your car in our covered parking garage. Leave the car behind, because the rest of the week you will not need it. Everything is within walking distance. In the village, across the car park you will find the ski school (ski and snowboard lessons for both beginners and experienced skiers), the child care and several ski rentals, supermarket, restaurants and bars. The chalet is a so-called type 4, a spacious kitchen, comfortable beds, good showers (Three giant boilers for hot water, so you should not run out), storage for skis, boots, etc. radio, cable TV an FREE WiFi. Lovely chalet for a week with friends and family!

This privately owned chalet is 16 years old and has the following format:

1st floor: Entrance/hallway with ski locker, toilet, huge living room and a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, oven, etc. Outside you have a very spacious balcony/terrace

Ground floor: Here you will find 4 bedrooms, each with 2 beds, 3 bathrooms and a toilet.

Second floor: Here you will find 3 bedrooms each with 2 beds. Two bedrooms have access to the balcony.

Directly on the slopes in Oz en Oisans with access to 250 km of runs in the Alpe d'Huez ski area, this superb chalet is situated right in the heart of the Massif des Grandes Rousses. In chalet park Clos du Pré you'll find this attractive chalet situated. At the centre of this complex you'll find the attractive hotel with the renowned restaurant La Parisienne and the very popular Ozzie Bar. Relaxation is the key word whilst at the same time it boasts a broad range of fantastic ski and snowboard facilities: the ski lift starts literally on the doorstep of the chalet park! At the resort there's a pool Including sauna facilities and there's even a skating area! Shops and ski school are just across the street.

Other Activities in Summer: rafting, hydro speed, (down hill) cycling and golf

Alpe d'Huez is best known for the climb in the Tour de France. As a ski resort, it is one of the largest in France. An extraordinary ski area of 800 hectares is yours with 250 km slopes, 38 green, 31 blue, 33 red and 16 black, including the Sarenne with 16 km the longest in the world. The 86 lifts take you quickly to the peaks with the highest point the ‘Pic Blanc’ at 3.330 meters altitude. Because of the 860 snow cannons there will be snow from early December till the end of April. Once a week a floodlit slope in Oz is open for night skiing. Two snow parks and a boarder cross fun for skiers and boarders. For the die hard there are more than 20 off-piste possibilities. Over 50 km cross country tracks and hiking trails to choose from 30 km. The ice cave at 2.700 meters is a must. Or take a ride on a dog sled or snow cat, a ‘Après ski beginners course’ in the Ozzie Bar, or relax in the indoor pool with sauna.

About the owner, Mark Danby.

I live and work in the UK but have been skiing and snowboarding in the French Alps for over 25 years. I bought my chalet in Oz in 2006. I love the fact that Oz is a small, quiet village, yet the location gives you access to the huge ski area of Oz, Alpe d’Huez and Vaujany.

In summer the mountains are a beautiful place to walk or cycle, and the Tour de France often passes nearby.

About the chalet manager, Jos van Oosten

Jos manages bookings for the chalet on my behalf. He is the owner of chalet 32 next door and, being Dutch, is far more proficient at languages than an Englishman! Many of our guests are French or Dutch and Jos ensures that the booking process is efficient and that guests are communicated with in their own language.

Très bonne location

Prestation de très bonne qualité, chalet très agréable, spacieux, literies de bonne qualité, cuisine bien équipée.

Nous étions 17 dont 6 enfants, l'espace de vie bien aménagé permet de ne pas être les 'uns sur les autres'.

Néanmoins, 2 petites remarques :

- l'accès au chalet, bien que proche des pistes, est assez 'sportif' (chemin en pente et/ou escaliers) surtout pour des personnes égées, ou enfants ne portant pas leurs skis, ainsi que lors de l'arrivée/départ avec bagages.

- couverture réseau mobile assez faible, pas de Wifi

Malgré ces remarques, je conseille cette location.

Great chalet, great skiing.

We stayed here over February half term, there were 8 adults and 10 children and there was plenty of room for us all.

The chalet was great, clean, warm and comfortable. It was very well equipped, plenty for self catering for 18 and there was also lots of hot water.

Oz village is a short walk, it's very family friendly, with a small but well stocked supermarket, several delis (including one that hires out raclettes which makes for a great sociable evening meal) and boulangeries. The ESF ski school meets in the centre of the village and there are several ski hire shops.

There is a button lift a short walk from the chalet this goes to the nursery slopes and also the lifts taking you to Alp D'Huez. At the top of the village there is another lift that takes you up to other ski areas.

We were a mixed ability group from beginners to experienced skiers all found the skiing great with runs aplenty.

The only thing just to bear in mind there is a steepish winding path and stairs to the chalet which can be covered with snow. There is a tractor to take luggage down but, as we all arrived at different times this was not available to us all, it can also be a bit of a bind for the smaller children carrying their skis up and down, there is however an undercover car park at the top of the chalet park ( a free pass is included and I think it was around 30 euros otherwise for the week.) and you could leave skis and ski boots in there to save the moans!

Apart from this very small thing both the chalet and area were excellent, and Joss the owner was extremely helpful (including buying a new big saucepan for our catering) and answered any queries quickly.

I would definately recommend for skiing and I'm sure would be fantastic place to stay outside of ski season also.
