Peaceful, well appointed house, with all amenities included. Ideal place to visit local areas.

  • 5 of 5

The hosts were welcoming and friendly and clearly explained all the facilities of the house, garden, lake and surrounding areas. An ideal, quiet location and easy to get to some very interesting towns nearby. Brantome and Perigeux especially recommended. Secure, off-road parking. Good kitchen and bathroom, plenty of heating if needed, the only thing lacking was drawer space. Wicker baskets were provided but not that easy to access. Would certainly recommend to other guests looking for somewhere peaceful to stay.

A top quality gite

  • 5 of 5

This is a very rural gite, but not too far from a small town with most amenities. There is also a popular english-speaking restaurant in the town. The gite is fully equipped with top quality contents, and is spotless on arrival. The garden to the front is very private, screened from the owners' house next door, but they are available if needed. The private lake is a lovely peaceful setting, not visible from the house, but only a short walk away.

A great holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week's holiday in this charming gîte which is very well appointed and equipped. During our stay, the weather was good enough for us to eat almost every meal outdoors - when the only sound heard was that of the birds. We had some great walks in the beautiful surrounding countryside, and it was unusual if a car passed us! We walked to Dournazac one morning; but both Dournazac and Châlus are a short drive away. We loved sitting by the lake and watching the various wildlife, including coypu swimming in the water. On our walks, deer, sheep, turkeys and peacocks were encountered! Andy and Lisa were great hosts, being on hand when we needed information, but otherwise leaving us to enjoy the property. As the next stage of our holiday was to be a city centre break in Bordeaux, we deliberately did not criss-cross the whole area, but there was plenty to interest us. We enjoyed our visit to Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche and pedalling along through the Limousin countryside on the Vélo-Rail at the Espace Hermeline! We should not hesitate to return in the future, and can definitely recommend.

A very peaceful retreat in a beautiful location. The gite is superbly equipped and the cleanest we've ever stayed in! Andy and Lisa were wonderfully welcoming and not at all intrusive: perfect hosts. A wonderful, relaxing break in a beautiful cottage located in a gorgeous part of the country. Highly recommended.

The Limousin is stunningly beautiful region of still lakes, fast flowing streams, gentle rolling valleys and forested mountains has been one of the best kept secrets in France. From the lovely old city of Limoges to the tiny hamlets scattered across the hills and forests, and the pure rivers and lakes, discover the friendliness and old world charm of one of the last remaining havens of the 'real France'.

As one of the lowest populated regions in France, the Limousin has largely escaped the onward march of 'progress' and retains some of the most unspoilt countryside in Europe. The Limousin is a region rich in history.. Dotted everywhere in the region you will find 12th. century churches, chateaux, cathedrals and awe inspiring architecture -a legacy of the mason farmers of the region - renowned throughout France and recent and sobering history at Oradour sur Glane, an entire town preserved in memory of its destruction and the execution of its inhabitants by a German panzer division in WWII.

The culture of the region remains largely intact, as does the traditional warmth of its people. Always welcoming to visitors and still retaining old fashioned courtesy and values. Village fetes abound, many of them dating back centuries and celebrating just about everything imaginable.

A visit to the Limousin is a little like walking back in time - understated, empty roads, full of surprises and sure to resurrect memories of what life used to be like in a less frantic world.

Haute Vienne derives its name from the river that runs though the department. Limoges famous for its porcelain is the regional capital. Here you can find a myriad of interesting shops as well as all the high street chains.

Nature is part of everyday life in Haute Vienne. Tourists visit in all seasons to enjoy the rolling landscapes, forests, lakes and rivers. Chestnuts, oaks, spruces and Douglas fir all line the landscape of this breathtaking department, while picturesque villages and stunning castles grow from the granite landscape.

Haute Vienne has many well preserved historic buildings such as the Abbeys at Solignac and Châteauponsac, or the castles of Châlus, Châlucet, Montbrun and Rochechouart. Further a field the department is the breathtakingly moving town of Oradour sur Glane, a permanent memorial to man's inhumanity to man.

There are over 2,000 km of marked paths for walking and rambling, The Haute Vienne is an angler's dream with both running and still waters plentiful in rivers, lakes and ponds, there are around 7,000 km of waterways, of which 6,700 km are 1st class.

Dournazac is a small village in the Haute-Vienne department of the Limousin region of south-west France which is notable for its beautiful 15th century castle, Château Montbrun. The village is also famed for its delightful October Chestnut Fair which takes place every year on the last Sunday in October, which transforms this sleepy little place into a blaze of colour, with aromas of roasting chestnuts and a vibrant atmosphere.

Meanwhile the village offers shops, services and a very popular bar restaurant, with a lovely leisure lake nearby too.

Tour de France - Limoges has a stage start and end this summer just 30 mins away
