About this property

A True Costa Rican Adventure: Large Pool, OceanView Sunsets Jungle Toucans

Set in the jungle, above the village and beautiful beach of Matapalo on the Pacific Coast, this house invites you to have a true Costa Rican experience! Even the 4X4 road to the house is fun! Just minutes from the beach, there is an amazing 180 degree view of the ocean. Enjoy the local sightings of toucans, parrots, soaring hawks, several kinds of monkeys, coatis, blue morpho butterflies and many other wildlife visitors from the patio deck, while still being close to lots of activities and unique adventures. Have an action-packed vacation or just lie in the hammock by the pool and read.

The house has an open, comfortable feeling with tile floors and beautiful wood ceilings and doors. The kitchen, dining room and living room all open to each other and the outdoors. Ceiling fans throughout the house keep the cooler mountain air moving. Downstairs there is a master bedroom (king bed) and connected bathroom, a single bed tucked under the stairway and another full bathroom. Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms (2Full, 1 twin) and sweeping views from Manuel Antonio to OSA.

As of May 2023 we are working on getting some updated photos of recent improvements like new fridge and carport and outdoor furniture. This is a family home, we are the original owners and we designed and built this house as a retirement home in 2003. Some pictures are older, some newer. The view never changes. Everything else just keeps getting upgraded.

Mountaintop Gem
This property has a beautiful view of the ocean and stunning sunsets. The nearby beach is beautiful and full of monkeys in the treetops. Every night we had visits from parrots, toucans and vultures. We were there for 3 weeks. It is a great location for exploring Dominical, Quepos, Manuel Antonio and Uvita. There are a few great restaurants within 5 minutes of the property. The host lives on the property and was very responsive to our needs.

Quiet and relaxing
This property was perfect for a quiet getaway. Very quiet but close enough to town and amenities that we could enjoy both the quiet countryside and run into town for food and adventures. The bird watching from the house was also exceptional, seeing toucans, parrots, and macaws.

A unique house and view
After our 4x4 got us up the long road to the house, we were amazed by the location in the forest with wildlife around and the extensive view from on high of the ocean. The interior living space was very spacious, and several doors open up to a large patio where we ate all our meals, and a wonderful swimming pool. It's also a good part of the coast to be on, because interesting destinations are equidistant to the north and to the South. Stayed 6 days, wish we could have stayed longer.

Paradise in Costa Rica
All I can say is the photos on the site do not do this property justice! The road up to it was definitely a challenge the first few times, but soon became 2nd nature and a fun part of the experience (60 times up and down). Our 2 month stay with visits from our daughter and son and their familes was amazing. Our grandchildren loved playing in the pool and the many excursions and adventures we experienced in Costa Rica: Manuel Antonio Park, Hacienda Baru gave us great opportunities to see wildlife. Matapalo Beach, and Dominical Beach great for swimming and surfing. Through Rafiki we did a white water rafting adventure and a kayaking experience. Daniels restaurant is a must and a cafe called Cafe Mono Longo in Domincal is amazing. (try their coconut cheesecake. Becca (her family owns the property and she manages it) was extremely gracious and helpful and gave us many recommendations. Thank you Becca for opening your home to us. It was a much needed vacation and very relaxing. Pura Vida

Everything We Hoped For!
This property was great for our family of 6 plus grandma. The pool was great. There are only doors going from the house to the pool, so be careful if there are young kids that can't swim. The house is up a long, steep driveway, so 4x4 is a must, like they say. But this steep hill gives the amazing views and privacy. If you are in it for the creatures, we saw parrots, toucans, vultures, hummingbirds, and capuchin monkeys all on the property. The air conditioning is in only 2 bedrooms, and it is encouraged not to run them constantly or overnight. We came to Costa Rica to be HOT, so we loved the warm nights. The owner lives next door and was available and responsive if we needed anything. The location of the house is great and centrally located. You can drive down to the closest beach in 10 minutes or go into Dominical for restaurants and groceries. We bopped down to Uvita for the day, as well, and it's close enough for a day trip to Manuel Antonio. We felt safe, happy and at home here!

We live and work in Walnut Creek, California, east of San Francisco. Two of our children and all of our grandchildren all live in the Bay Area. Our Daughter now lives on the property (in a separate house) and is the on-site property manager.

Why they chose this property

This get-a-way property allows us to enjoy an entirely different ecosystem and culture, as well as provides us a place to read and rest. We like the slow pace, but being near so many fun adventures.
