Residential apartment, 2 beds, 2 baths, lots of space and close to everything!

Welcome to Marona, our luxury holiday rental apartment with lovely Marina views, a few minutes' stroll from Sant Feliu de Guixols, Costa Brava.

Imagine being in a modern, spacious, air conditioned, apartment with balcony views of the marina and within a five minute stroll of the beach...

And because it's not in a holiday development, the neighbours are not so noisy, care more about their surroundings and aren't so inclined to use the pool - leaving more time and space for you.

You can walk to the market every day for the freshest fruit, vegetables, meat and, of course, fish. That's when you are not going for an early morning kayak, dive or swim...

Sant Feliu de Guixols is one of the nicest and best small towns on the Costa Brava. It is not a holiday resort, but a living Catalan town with the culture, the Catalan lifestyle, the shops and restaurants so admired by well-healed visitors from Barcelona. But, of course, the beach is beautiful, the bay stunning and the facilities for visitors second to none.

Marona is a spacious apartment in a residential block within walking distance of Sant Feliu de Guixols, the Marina, the beach and the whole of Sant Feliu. But because it is not in the centre of town, it provides a wonderful haven at the end of a busy day.

It is on the first floor of the two storey block and can be accessed by stairs or lift.

It is not in a 'holiday block' and therefore we are looking for guests who want a great, convivial time, but not a riotous one! By the same token, this means that, although very central, you are unlikely to be disturbed by many marauding holidaymakers despite being so close to the action.

Marona boasts a excellent living area (21 square metres) with a dining table that can accommodate six, two three seater sofas and an enormous French window off to a spacious balcony with views across the Marina to the left and the hills to the right.

We have recently acquired an electric 'plancha' or barbecue grill wich is ideal for use on the balcony without running the risk of upsetting the neighbours!

It has two spacious bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other which can either be a twin or a very comfy double, and ample storage. The master bedroom also has a large en suite bathroom.

There is also a family bathroom with shower.

The very well equipped kitchen is more spacious than most, with a breakfast table which can accommodate four cosily, the usual mod cons and a dishwasher. Off the kitchen is a utility room with washing machine.

The air conditioning and heating are quiet and efficient so Marona is ready for your visit at any time of year. The wifi is high speed and unlimited. The only thing we deliberately do not have is a TV because we are encouraging you to talk to each other and have fun together!

Underneath the block you have your own indoor parking space and access to the 12m swimming pool which forms the central space of the block.

You can stroll to the Sant Feliu beach in five minutes or wander along the coast the other way until you get to Platja Sant Pol which is the haunt of wealthy French and Spanish Riviera types (!).

Sant feliu is teeming with things to do and places to see. If you like hiking or biking, sant feliu is ideal. If you want to explore Catalunya, what a base and if you are here for a rest then that's fine too!

We are a semi retired couple who have a house in the mountains in Catalunya and a couple of holiday properties on the coast.

We finished our business lives in Summer 2012 and are looking to travel ( the picture is us in Iceland!), live and learn.

We love Catalunya, its people, its history and its life and would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

We live in London, escaping to Catalunya, Burgundy and Iceland(!) whenever we can.

Great home away from home

We have stayed in this appartment a couple of times in the past and we'll keep coming back. Peter, Lucy and Carmen (who handles things locally) are perfect hosts who go to great lengths to make sure you have a great stay and get the most out of your vacation. This starts long before you arrive with pleasant, friendly communication, a very helpful web site/guest guide to support you in preparing your stay, recommendations for activities during your stay. When we arrived, the fridge had even been stocked up with some food and drinks to get us started without having to go out shopping first. Peter is always available via phone in case something is unclear or needs fixing (which I don't remember happening even once during our various visits). Thanks a lot!

The apartment itself is very comfortable, bright and contains everything you could possibly want or need, e.g. beach towels, etc. Generally, everything here is a level above your average holiday rental and feels more like a home away from home. It's especially worth mentioning the fully equipped kitchen, because there is an abundance of seafood and all kinds of fresh produce to try for hobby chefs. Of course, if you're more into restaurants, the apartment is located in a quiet yet central residential area within walking distance of the town centre (5-10min) with lots of nice places in all price ranges.

Sant Feliu de Guixols is a great place to experience the beauty of the Costa Brava. Comparably unspoiled by mass tourism it has a lively vibe all year round, mostly without the tackyness of some more well known places in the area. There are still lots of down-to-earth local shops frequented by locals. The scenery is great (with a lovely view from the apartment's balcony) and it's ideally suited if you want to explore this part of Catalunya. Girona is well worth a visit (rated one of the Top 10 weekend getaways by The Guardian recently), Barcelona is within driving distance and there's a myriad of beaches to chose from.

Long story short - we'll be back. I hope I haven't shot myself in the foot with this positive review ;)

Lovely apartment

it has everything you would/might need and just a minute or 2 from the beach. Lovely resort, plenty of good restaurants and eating places, had a nice, relaxing break.

First class second visit here.

Excellent communication from owner prior to stay, as per last year, plus welcoming personal phone call on arrival to check all was well and offer assistance if necessary throughout the stay. Our second visit here to a very well appointed and comfortable apartment, kept spotlessly clean by Carmen, who also offered a friendly welcome. I would highly recommend this accommodation to couples looking for a relaxed holiday in a non touristy Catalunyan town. La Proa is an excellent restaurant, and local traiteur also very good.

Great apartment , great location for the town

The apartment is in a great location, a few minutes walk into the town centre where there are lots of good restaurants as well as a long wide beach where there is always plenty of space.

The markets (indoor and outdoor) are a must for fresh fish, vegetables etc.

We had a great time, highly recommended!

Well positioned attractive property in lovely, authentic Catalan town.

Throughout the whole process, Peter and Lucy proved to be impeccable hosts. Always attentive and willing to provide an abundance of high quality information about the property, resort and surrounding areas. Arrival and departure was enthusiastically managed by Peter and Lucy's local Catalan agent.

The property itself is well positioned just a short downhill walk to the beach and beautiful town of Sant Feliu de Guixols. The property being well furnished, fully equipped and with a balcony providing not only outside eating space but also great views across to the marina and out to sea, provided a clean and comfortable base for the whole family. The bedrooms we spacious with plenty of storage space whilst the two bathrooms, being welcome, do now require some attention to bring them up to the standard of the rest of the apartment. Car parking arrangements , it is worth noting, whilst tricky, are adequate.

We would recommend Sant Feliu itself primarily because it retains a Spanish /Catalan authenticity which other nearby resorts lack. Always busy it never suffered from the heaving intensity of places like Palamos and the beautiful streets are full of interesting shops and a wide range of cafes and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. The beach is clean and the water inviting and safe for all ages. Certainly a place to which we would be happy to return to in the future.

A wonderful week on the Costa Brava

We really enjoyed our stay in Peter's apartment in Sant Feliu de Guixols. We didn't meet Peter, but we stayed in contact with him through SMS (text messages) throughout our stay. Peter provided all sorts of helpful information about everything from parking to grocery stores both before our stay and throughout the week as we needed it. The apartment was in a great location within walking distance of the beach/shops/restaurants in Sant Feliu de Guixols, but was very quiet at night as it was not right in the center of town. Our kids loved the pool in the courtyard. We enjoyed the main beach in town and also La Playa de Sant Pol which is a short distance away. One morning we hiked the coastal trail in between the apartment (you can get on the trail right in front of the apartment building) and the beach in Sant Pol and the views were incredible! I highly recommend that hike. Overall, we had a great time and I would highly recommend Peter's apartment.

From the Owner

Marona is so ideal for people like us who like to have fun but value creature comforts. It is in the thick of it but relatively quiet. You have a choice of two excellent beaches, one literally minutes away on foot. It has some stunning views and you can watch the fishing boats entering and leaving the harbour. It is more of a holiday home than a squashed rental. You can easily walk to anywhere you are likely to want to go in Sant Feliu but also have an excellent base from which to explore. There is secure off street parking, but you don't need a car if you don't want one. We aim to treat guests as we would friends who visit us. We want guests to have the best time, and maybe also to bear in mind that this is our home. Anyone who books with us has access to the guest-only area of our website which gives you real insights into local events, activities, restaurants and cuisine and even explains why so many Brits never get the coffee they think they are ordering! What more can we say?!

With a view over the beautiful Saint Feliu de Guixols Marina and within strolling distance of the beach, the water sports, the shops and the restaurants, this apartment is ideal for people who want an easy holiday - close enough to the action, but not too close.

But this is a residential complex so you don't get the mayhem that is possible with a resort complex or an apartment right in the centre of town - you get the best of both worlds.

We are literally three minutes from the Marina, five from the beach and 10 from all of the shops and restaurants you could wish for, including the fabulous Sunday market.

But if you want to explore further afield, with its own secure parking space and easy access to places like Girona, Barcelona, Empuries, Figueres, Cadaques etc, it is great for that too. If you love Salvador Dali or Antoni Gaudi then there is no better place to use as your base.

Sant Feliu's strap-line is 'Open all year round' and so it is. In the Summer it is an ideal place for a beach holiday with lots of activities, events and sights to see.

In Spring and Autumn you may well still be able to swim and you can delight in the verdant countryside as well as visit a vast range of historical and artistic sites in slightly cooler weather.

In Winter the sea is 'Brava' or 'Wild' making it a sight to see and the restaurants, coffee shops etc are still open with many attractions still accessible but without the crowds and the heat.

And of course you can play golf on the many courses at any time of year!

The gastronomy is unsurpassed and even the basic dishes such as home made sausage and white beans or huevos Don Pablo are very tasty indeed.

From here you can easily access:

Girona with its marvellous architecture, shops and restaurants.

Barcelona with all it has to offer.

Empuries, the Roman and Greek remains with excellent mosaic floors remaining and a stunning view of the Mediterranean.

Dali-land - Figueres where the Dali Museum is, his house in Cadaques and Gala's 'Castle' in Pubol.

The night-life of Platja d'Aro (but with a nicer, more peaceful place to come home to).

Ullastret the ancient Iberian town with its 9th century Medaeval church.

Peratallada with its 11th to 19th century buildings and artefacts.

La Bisbal, home of ceramics with so many shops and so little time!

Marona is just so very handy for everything. What we like best about it is that it's so easy. There is enough space to settle, the lift means you can choose not to use the stairs if you are tired after a hard day's exploring, you can walk to the restaurants and weave slowly back without having to worry about driving. You are right in the middle of natural phenomena - the glorious Mediterranean, stunning coves and beach walks and, of course, the beautiful cork forests. We like to think that we treat our guests with a bit more thought and personal interest than most landlords. For example, we don't pack people in, squeezing eight into an apartment intended for four... We don't have a conveyor belt of Saturday to Saturday bookings which results in every single guest HAVING TO arrive late and leave early...we try to let you know what's on when you are visiting so you don't miss gems etc etc And we have already mentioned the guest-only areas of our website...

The Blue bedroom is also spacious, light and has great storage. It overlooks the pool area to the centre of the building. You can either have two comfy single beds or a luxurious extra large double in the blue room. The family bathroom is right next to the blue room with shower, sink and loo. You can choose to use a full duvet, a 'manta' (thinner quilt) or just a sheet as a cover if it is very warm. All bed linens are of high quality.
