About the property

Studio Barn very close to the beach

Just yards from the beach in this tranquil, quintessential Cornish fishing village, an enchanting detached stone studio. Close to beautiful coastal walks leading around the Lizard peninsula and along the shoreline of the Helford River. Full of character with a mezzanine double bed area enjoying glimpses of the sea, kitchenette, living area and a shower/utility room, packing everything one would need into a perfectly formed space. Ideally located with a tranquil part of Cornwall yet close proximity to the Helford River, Helston, Lizard Peninsula. Nearby attractions include Goonhilly, Trelowarren, Roskilly's and local diving at Polkerris.

Great for short or long breaks away from the city. Ideal for those who want quiet break away from the hustle and bustle of work and traffic noise.

From the Cornish meaning 'port at the end of the moor', Porthallow's history has always been inextricably linked with the sea. A former thriving Pilchard port, small fishing boats are still hauled onto the beach to this day. A number of buildings in the village also exhibit tell tale signs of the industry, if a little less obvious to the casual observer - The Association's Institute building is sighted over a former pilchard cellar!

Set in the heart of the small fishing village of Porthallow with the beach is just a few minutes' walk away. The South West Coast Path is just 50 metres from the studio, offering excellent coastal views across Falmouth Bay to St. Anthony's Head, and a beautiful walk to Gillan Creek and the Helford River. Porthallow beach is used by local fishermen, and it is possible to drive onto the beach to launch canoes and dinghies. The local pub, The Five Pilchards, offers a warm welcome to visitors and there is a craft shop with locally made pottery. The village shops in St Keverne, just a couple of miles away, offer comprehensive supplies. The local wildlife is abundant, with buzzards circling over the valley and seals occasionally visiting the bay. The Old Stable is in probably one of the most peaceful spots in Cornwall, and offers the opportunity for a truly relaxing holiday by the sea.

Ode to The Old Stable

From Pralla's Old Stable, I was certainly able

To enjoy a whole week, exploring Mullion to Gweek. Around all Lizard's coast, I can defnitely boast, Many miles of walking and scenic recording.

But knowing each day, a good place to stay,

The Old Stable cosy and, when I felt dozy,

A comfy warm bed, to lay down my head,

This was all I could ask for.....

I'll be back for more!

Brilliant value, very well equipped!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, daughter, myself and 2 dogs stayed here for a 3 night break at the end of May and we were massively impressed! What a lovely well equipped cottage, it has everything you need at a fantastic price, it is compact but it was fine for the 3 of us and dogs. The owners have made excellent use of the space. Everything was really easy, booking, communication with owner etc. The biscuits and fresh milk was also a really nice touch. Everything was really clean and welcoming.

Porthallow is a lovely little village, the local pub serves excellent food and is dog friendly and the local cafe just on the way out of the village called fat apples serves the best breakfast I have ever had in my life and is also dog friendly.

We will definately return in the future, thankyou for a lovely pleasant stay.

Cosy, delightful and something out the ordinary.

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the old stable! Amazing how the owners have managed to utilise a small space so well. Really cosy little place with everything you need inside. Set in a very quiet, peaceful village the stable was really great for my girlfriend and I to get away from it all. Would happily return!

No Christmas Cheer from here!

Unfortunately the Stable was cold, damp, smelt of dog and drains and could have done with a good clean.

Owner's Response: It is always disappointing when you get negative feedback, especially our first ever. Sorry you felt that the property didn't meet your expectations. If it was that poor I do feel that you should have contacted us. All contact numbers are provided to you for that purpose. I have checked the property since and have had guests since and all feedback was good. No damp, plenty of heating and no doggie smell, as the floor is totally tiled. Kind regards James
