About the property

Quaint Cottages Greyabbey

Rose Cottage and Lilac Tree Cottage are pretty, traditional Irish cottages which date back to 1860. They are located on a street of stone cottages on the edge of the small historic village of Greyabbey with its Cistercian abbey dating back to 1160. The abbey is set in beautiful parkland and is just across the way from the cottage, the perfect spot for walks and picnics. Greyabbey has a number of historic buildings and a selection of antique and vintage shops, restaurants and coffee shops.

The cottages have been recently renovated and are furnished with a mixture of vintage and contemporary pieces yet maintain rustic charm with all modern home comforts.

Rose Cottage is deceptively spacious with a large living room, master bedroom with ensuite bathroom, large kitchen with dining area and a sunny courtyard perfect for alfresco dining.

Lilac Tree Cottage is quaint and cosy with a sizeable living room, seperate kitchen, 2 bedrooms, bathroom with overhead shower, large decked area and pretty garden with views of the Abbey.

Rose Cottage has been featured in "25 Beautiful Homes" and "Ireland Homes & Interiors" Magazines.

The cottages are within easy walking distance of the abbey, local park, boutique shops and restaurants and just a short drive to the beautiful beach and harbour of Ballywalter. Major supermarkets and amenities at Newtownards are just 10 minutes drive away. All major attractions of Strangford Lough are on your doorstep including the pretty villages of Portaferry and Strangford, the historic town of Downpatrick and stunning National Trust properties and gardens at Mount Stewart and Castleward. All the major attractions of Northern Ireland are accessible including Belfast just 30 minutes drive away, the Mourne Mountains 50 minutes drive and the North Coast with the Giants Causeway 1.5 hours drive. It is a superb location for a family holiday as you have a wealth of options to chose from - a fabulous long sandy beach, play parks, aquarium, petting farms, play cafes, adventure playgrounds, canoeing, windsurfing and quad biking to name but a few! The cottages are equally suited to a romantic getaway or family holiday.

We have additional rental properties in Dundrum, a stunning 1st floor apartment with mountain and bay views, listing 86767; and a small but characterful 2 bedroom villa in St Paul de Vence, French Riviera, with stunning village views and a shared pool, listing 486700.

I am a World Host Accredited Service Provider with a commitment to customer service excellence.

Our cottages are registered and approved by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board.

Why Janet Hamilton chose Northern Ireland

Simply, it was love at first sight! We couldn't believe how spacious the cottage was and loved the original features. We knew it would give us great pleasure to renovate it and bring it up to modern standards while maintaining its charm. We hope we have succeeded!

What makes this cottage unique

Rose and Lilac Tree cottages are characterful cottages with a lot of charm and yet all modern conveniences. They enjoy a peaceful location right at the edge of the village which has lovely antique shops great for a potter and a peruse. The coffee shops 'The Hoops' and 'Villagers' are both excellent as is the Wildfowler Inn and Restaurant which has won a number of awards. A close drive away you have Harrisons coffee shop and garden centre which has a large terrace overlooking Strangford Lough. Its location is stunning and the perfect spot to enjoy a coffee or a meal. Eden Pottery just outside of Millisle, 10 minutes drive, has great coffee and homemade fare to enjoy. You can also pick and paint pottery if you fancy. You are also a short drive to Ballywalter, a lovely beach perfect for walks, rock pooling and making sandcastles of course! We also love the fact that the wonderful National Trust properties of Mount Stewart and Castleward are on the doorstep. The gardens and lake at Mount Stewart are particularly special. Any number of outdoor activities are available including canoeing, horse riding, windsurfing and sailing. Despite its peaceful village location you are easily accessible to all the main tourist attractions of Northern Ireland. We believe it is the perfect location for a romantic or family holiday!

Cute Cottage, close to Abbey & Portaferry. Not a lot to do in Greyabbey but easy to drive to different locations.

Owner's Response: Hi Diane. I'm so pleased that you liked the cottage. Actually, there is lots to do in this area. Strangford Lough is very beautiful and we are blessed to have wonderful scenery and the magnificent National Trust properties and their beautiful gardens nearby. If you crave the buzz of city life Belfast is just 30 minutes away. We are also close to the marina town of Bangor and the town of Ards. I'm pleased to offer guests lots of suggested itineraries in our information pack for both adults and children and happy to advise on places to visit.

Great Cottage and stay!!

  • 5 of 5

Lovely little cottage! It was clean, bright and so very well decorated! It was my birthday and Janet left me a sweet card and bottle of wine! My only compliant is that we had booked for 4 adults and there was not enough beds to sleep in as I was traveling with my mom sister and friend. The pull out in the living room would have been great for two kids. . Luckily my sister was willing to sleep on the couch! So just make sure to make it clear how many people you and how many beds you need. Janet was a great host and the place was perfect for touring the Abby snd Strangeford Lough!

Owner's Response: Hi Marni. I'm so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and your birthday celebrations. I'm somewhat confused by your comments as it does clearly state that we can accommodate 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children. When you told me a few days before your arrival it would be 4 adults coming I offered you our other cottage so you could spread out a little. Sorry you didn't take us up on our offer but glad you enjoyed your stay nonetheless.
