About this property

Elegant house with pool, panoramic view and beautiful Mediterranean garden

Villa Shiraz is a traditional stone house with infinity pool, magnificent view and spacious, Mediterranean garden set in a picturesque village Selca on the island Brač, two km from the beaches away. Built in 1825 and completely renovated to a high standard in 2009 today it is a small temple of family memorabilia, antiques, art, books and furniture that tell family history.
Its location offers the best of both worlds: complete peace and quiet when needed, but within easy access to the Bol town nightlife.
Nearby village Sumartin (2 km) is a pretty village with beaches, restaurants and bars around a small port.
Within a few minutes walk from the house is the centre of the village. There is a pharmacist, general practitioner, ATMs, grocery, small food market, restaurant, cafes, two churches, basketball pitch and tennis court. As one of our guests wrote: the location is great if you like staying in a real village and having an authentic experience complete with church bells, faint rooster crowing in the distance and town cats wandering the small lanes.
But the location of the house also gives you the opportunity to explore Brač, which unlike surrounding islands and despite the small airport, has preserved its pristine modesty and authenticity until today.

Imagine eating lobster in a swimsuit or swimming in a turqoise water under the pine tree. Rich history from the ancient times onwards is jumping out of every corner. Restaurants in forgotten villages or in the midst of an olive tree plantation, secluded coves, guided cycling routes, cave exploring, lush pine forrests or fish cought for you by our fisherman. Croatia's beach No. one Zlatni rat in Bol is 27 km away, Roman sarcophagi, mediveal chapels, mystical villages with legends about nasty little dwarfts, island's winemakers tours, local sheep cheese with prosciutto and olive oil. Brač's olive oil is listed in the world's most famous olive oil guide Flos olei. All that is waiting for you to experience, but you can just enjoy the pool, the garden and the view. Brač is the island for connoisseurs.
Since there are interesting things about the village and the island that I would be happy to share with you I wrote a short guide with the insider tips on what to see and do or what to eat and where based on my own experience. This guide will save you a lot of time and energy before the trip.

Rather lovely
Convenient location on outskirts of very quiet small town so could walk to shops/pizzeria but had views down to sea. Great villa well appointed with nice areas to sit & an infinity pool. Problem with oven dealt with late evening whilst we were cooking, an example of the excellent service

Beautiful villa with amazing views and infinity pool
We throughly enjoyed our 1 week stay at Villa Shiraz. The owners provided a great information brochure of the local area in advance of us arriving and were always very quick and responsive to any initial questions that we had. We were greeted at the villa by Stanko, the Property Manager, who was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and couldn’t do enough to help us and advise of things to do locally. The villa is exceptionally well equipped and we really appreciated the high quality and attention to detail in how the villa was decorated, the antique furniture and in what was provided e.g. beautiful wine glasses, champagne flutes etc and every kitchen gadget you could think of! The outdoor seating areas, all with great lighting, are very comfortable and are perfect for breakfast, lunch and dinner and drinks. The views from the villa are magnificent and the infinity pool is fantastic and a real attraction. The villa is well situated with a 10 minute stroll into Selca, where there are 2 supermarkets, a cash machine, a couple of restaurants, pharmacy and a bar. It is advisable to have a car in addition, so that you can explore additional restaurants and bars in Sumartin. Overall, we’d really recommend this villa and we’re very sad to leave at the end of the week!

Beautiful home with Stunning Views
Villa Shiraz was a beautiful villa with stunning views of both the mountains and the sea. The garden and pool were also beautiful and we were glad it was off the beaten track. Selca is a small charming town but it's a quick drive to the sea. Bol too is fairly close. The home has several different sitting areas, each with their own beautiful view. The villa is fairly large but still manages to feel intimate and homey. We loved it so much, we ended up staying "home" more often than we had planned, cooking in its cozy kitchen. All in all, Villa Shiraz is a charming, quiet, beautiful villa far from the tourist crowds in a charming Croatian town.

About the host

Host profile image
I am marketing and PR professional based in Zagreb who should have been born two centuries ago. I love antiques, art, history, archaeology, old places... Travelling with my family and friends is my passion, especially reading and preparing myself prior to the trip. And when the trip is over I do the videos and old school albums and organize themed dinners for friends. Talking about other cultures, lost civilizations, less known places, people, their art or music... it's divine.

Why they chose this property

The house, built in 1825, was bought by my parents in 1971. I fell in love with the island and the village and have been visiting the place ever since. The antique furniture has actually determined the rest of the interior design. In 2009 my husband and I decided to renovate the decayed house completely and in 2018 we added a heated, infinity pool with massage jets for our guests' pleasure and our own.
My intention was to to show our guests the house exactly as it is when we spend our vacations there. So we didn't remove our family photos and book in order to make you feel like you are at your friend's home.

There are two parking lots reserved for Villa Shiraz's guests, connected with a house by a 30 m long and steep pathway. Another access to the house is more disabled guests friendly, but requires driving through the narrow village streets.

Since we don't live on the island our welcome agent will help You with everything You might need during Your stay. He is a dedicated and knowledgeable person and friend of ours Stanko Tonsic.

What makes this property unique

To explore the island you will need a car, quad, scooter or bycicle. Brac is a destination for food, sport and nature lovers.
Eat at a restaurant set in a 16 th century fortification in Dol (not Bol), owned for centuries by a family who runs the restaurant. They will be glad to show you their private rooms full of family memorabilia.
Climb to the 16th century monastery, today a museum, Blaca Desert up in the hills. Visit Dragon's Cave with carvings from the 15 century.
On a nearby hill opposite to our house away is one of the finest examples of Croatia's pre-romanic chapels St. Nicholas from the 10th century. You can see it from the house. The chapel is literally few meters from the stone quarry away that was abandoned in the 19th century.
Exlpore the island or the surrounding archipelago. Don't miss one day trip to Hvar od Korčula island, two jewels of the Adriatic or just enjoy the pool, the garden and the view.
