About the property

4 bedroom, 2 bathroom, luxury 'home from home' in the city centre

Edinburgh is one of the world’s most beautiful and iconic destinations in the world. Built in 1805, this beautiful and elegant four bedroom apartment is located in the ‘East Village’ of the New Town.

Recently transformed by Edinburgh's well known interior designer, Emily Black, the Forbes’ Residence has a stylish, contemporary Scottish theme and can accommodate up to eight adults.

This luxurious ‘home from home’ has original stripped Canadian wooden floors, detailed cornicing, a flagstone kitchen and beautiful fireplaces. It offers a glimpse of life as a 19th century wealthy merchant - a fine example of Georgian architecture at its very best.

From the pewter stag’s head in the drawing room, to the salmon fish wallpaper in the kitchen and the 'touch of thistles' adorning the spacious accommodation, ambiance and a sense of history pour out of every nook and cranny in this 18th century building which was previously home to Scottish artist Anne Redpath.

Located just a few minutes walk away from the historic city centre, visitors have easy access to the many cultural, shopping and restaurant delights that Edinburgh has to offer. Beyond the city itself, there are world-renowned golf courses, beautiful coastal villages and stunning countryside.

About Hannah Forbes

Gordon was born and raised in Edinburgh. Hannah is from England, but spent many years living in Kenya and South Africa. We have three wonderful children, two of whom are at university, with one still at school.

Hannah Forbes purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Hannah Forbes chose Edinburgh

We decided to buy a second home and spent two weekends seeing more than 50 properties. The minute we walked through the door we knew that this was the one for us. It is beautifully proportioned with 14' ceilings, retains many original features, is in a beautiful Georgian building, and located in the wonderful East End of the city with walking distance to everything. We never use a car when we are there, and feel immersed in the fabric of the city.

We use the apartment often ourselves, but also love that we can share it with our discerning visitors.

What makes this apartment unique

This is far from a typical holiday rental. It is a gorgeous, top quality, much-loved second home.

You will forgive us for asking about your group before a booking is confirmed. We want to ensure that our apartment is well looked after, and ask all our guests to be respectful of the other residents in the building who live there permanently are all lovely people.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Central yet Quiet

  • 5 of 5

Hannah's apartment was perfect for our family trip to the fringe. Very central (3 mins walk to comedy club and Portrtait Gallery) yet perfectly quiet at night. Great accommodation once inside, spacious, well-decorated / furnished and spotlessly clean. Everyone loved the apartment.

Picture Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 6 visiting Edinburgh on a family reunion.

This apartment is perfectly located for walking to all main attractions in the city. There is a small market at the end of the road, where we bought all we needed for breakfast.

The apartment itself is very large and well equipped! Tastefully decorated and with very comfortable beds!

We all had a great time staying in Edinburgh and would stay in this property all over again.

Truly recommend it!!

Lovely Edinburgh Apartment

This apartment is every bit as beautiful as it looks in the pictures. It is a perfect place for an Edinburgh holiday: on a quiet street, close to wonderful restaurants, and within easy walking distance of top attractions. Truly special!

Loved it! Gorgeous and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

After checking out many different flats, I kept coming back to the one with the fish wallpaper. I'm so glad I chose it. It was as gorgeous as advertised. Wonderful combination of age and history with renovated, modern touches. I was obsessed with opening up the wooden Georgian shutters every morning, to see the street view in the front, and the garden view in the back.

We had 6 adults and 2 kids and it suited us perfectly. We had many meals in the well-stocked kitchen, and enjoyed the large, comfy living room to watch Olympics in.

Location is also wonderful. It was a 10-minute walk to Waverly Station, and about 20-25 mins to Old Town and the castle. We walked everywhere. My kids are 6 and 8, and there was a great playground in King George V Park about 5 min walk away. The neighborhood had tons of corner stores and delicious restaurant options as well. There was a Tesco Express close by. Not very noisy either for being in a pretty vibrant location. I'm glad we stayed where we did since Old Town was crazy busy with Festival activities. Where we were was much more relaxed, no major crowds, but still close by.

No regrets with this place! Would definitely recommend and stay again.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for this lovely review. It's always a joy to hear other people's views about the apartment and reminds us how we felt when we first stayed there ourselves. Like you, we loved looking out of the windows in the morning, and had such fun choosing wallpapers and furniture to complement the beautiful old building. And being able to go out and walk to everything so easily. It's fabulous for Christmas and New Year by the way! So pleased you had a great trip and we hope to see you again in the future. Hannah.
