Overview

About the property

Four bedroom cottage, with three ensuite bathrooms.

Pooltiel View sleeps 8 + 1 cot (when requested) in two double bedrooms and two twin bedrooms, Three of the bedrooms have en suite bathrooms and family bathroom is adjacent to the fourth bedroom. The layout of the house is ideal for large parties of up to eight, two families or a family plus Grandparents. The lounge has floor to ceiling windows to take advantage of the magnificent views. It also has a wood burning stove for the cooler winter evenings. The cottage is set in natural croft land and has stunning views of Loch Pooltiel, surrounding countryside and on a clear day views towards the outer Hebrides. It is in a peaceful location, within a 10 minute walk to Milovaig Pier, a beach can be found at Glendale.

Free broadband wifi has been installed at the cottage, however due to the rural location it can sometimes be unreliable or not work. For this reason we do not list wifi as a facility at the cottage. Free broadband wifi is available at Glendale Village Hall.

Wifi is also available at Cafe Lephin in Glendale.

The cottage provides the ideal place for relaxing and watching the ever changing vistas and is a super base for touring this mystical and historic island. Take a visit to Dunvegan Castle (the oldest inhabited castle in Scotland and seat of the Clan MacLeod) and a boat trip to see the seals basking on the rocks in Loch Dunvegan. Other boat trips include a sea trip from Portree to see the varied sea and bird life including the sea eagles, glass-bottomed boat trips and a ferry trip from Uig to the Outer Isles of Lewis, Harris and Uist. No visit to the Isle of Skye is complete without a trip on the Bella Jane from Elgol to Scotland's most isolated Loch Coruisk.

The island boasts some wonderful restaurants, the world famous 'Three Chimneys' just a short drive from the cottage, has held 3 red rosettes for 9 years and has now been awarded its first Michelin star. The Kinloch Lodge Hotel has been awarded Skye's first Michelin star.

About Peter & Wendy

Having holidayed on Skye and the West coast of Scotland over the years, we decided to build a home on Skye, for ourselves and others to enjoy.

Peter & Wendy purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Peter & Wendy chose Scottish Highlands & Islands

The plot enjoys magnificent sea or rural views. It is quietly located, set in natural croft land with magnificent views of Loch Pooltiel, Dunvegan Head and on a clear day the Outer Hebridean Islands. The cottage was designed by a local architect and has been finished to a high standard.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage has been finished to a high standard boasting three en suite bathrooms and the main bathroom is adjacent to the fourth bedroom.

The lounge has floor to ceiling windows to take full advantage of the fantastic views. In the colder evenings it is very pleasant to sit in front of the wood burner whilst watching the ever changing vistas.

With no light pollution, at night, there are amazing starry skies.

It is possible to see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights).

Highland cattle and sheep graze here in front of the cottage and there is plenty of wildlife to be seen.

For larger parties of up to 16 the neighbouring property (ref 732295 or ref 8033987 on Owners Direct) can also be booked.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stay 4 nights in this lovely cottage. Absolutely stunning views of the Loch and the Pooltiel hills. The cottage is well presented, spacious and very comfortable for our group of 7. The kitchen was modern with lots of cooking utensils, so we enjoyed a few home cooked meals after sightseeing all day. The bedrooms were a good size, and 3 of the bedrooms had fantastic views of the Loch. We were glad we chose the Glendale area to stay as there is lots to see and do, great walks etc. There are lots of seabirds and the area is a great place for seeing seals & dolphins. We were very lucky with the WiFi ..... we had it for 3 out of the 4 days, so can't complain. Wendy was very friendly & helpful and gave us suggestions on where to shop for provisions. It felt like a home away from home & we were sad to leave . Thanks Wendy & Peter we will recommend your fabulous cottage to friends & associates. Cheers Anthony

Cozy, inspiring, and just ... perfect.

  • 5 of 5

Pooltiel View really was a magical place to spend a long weekend - especially a wet and stormy one! The views of waterfalls blowing up the cliffs across the bay were incredible. Had great hikes to Neist Point lighthouse and around the local roads. Everything you could possibly need (plus some!) in the house to cook, stay entertained, and have great conversation around the dinner table or lounge. Yes, the wifi is spotty at best - but we were all happy to be unplugged and disconnected from the world. Thank you for such a well thought out place Peter and Wendy!

Glendale is beautiful!

  • 4 of 5

We had a nice time at the Cottage. Weather was mostly good and the house is a good location for visiting the Isle of Skye!

The place was clean upon arrival and easy enough to find and get in. Plenty of space for 5 adults.

Our main issue was the lack of wifi. Even though it is no longer listed as available at the Cottage, it was listed as an amenity when we booked it. This caused quite a few issues for us as we were coming from out of country and our phones were having issues. Also the Glendale hall, which was stated to have wifi, apparently flooded 3 weeks before our arrival and therefore was closed leaving us without any way to get maps or directions, anyway to contact our hosts, or most importantly contact/answer questions from clients (we are self employed). We happened across the wonderful Cafe Lephin which has good wifi and the owners are lovely! They were a huge help to us and the food was delicious!

We feel the hosts lack of communication about the wifi and making maps of the area available was disappointing but overall we had a great time in Skye as it is a beautiful area.

The Fairy Pools, Portree, and Neist Point are all places we would highly recommend in the area!

Beautiful surroundings and a very nice house.

  • 4 of 5

The setting is absolutely stunning. The view out the front windows are breathtaking. It was a great place to sit and watch the weather rolling in as we had our morning coffee.

The house is nice and clean. The beds were fine and linens were OK too. Not luxury but fine.

The kitchen was fine as well.

The only complaint is that the wifi doesn't work at all. The description says it works intermittently but it never worked once.

Otherwise a great place. I loved it.

It was a family holiday and we all enjoyed the delights of walking and photographing Skye

  • 5 of 5

Pooltiel View offered very comfortable and spacious accommodation and all eight of us were very pleased. It was clean and very well laid out. The views were spectacular and the location was peaceful and all we were looking for. The fact that there was little wifi was actually a benefit and added to the peace. We aged from 6 to 67 and all ages enjoyed the holiday immensely.

Wonderful home, great for our group of 8, great beds and showers, BEAUTIFUL VIEW!!

  • 4 of 5

We loved our 4 days at your home! Everything worked great except the WIFI. We loved cooking meals together, planning day trips to Dunvegan, old man of Storr, Quaraing, Portree, and the Neist point lighthouse right down the road! The beauty of your isle of skye is unparalleled! What a perfect view to wake up to each day! Thank you!

Immaculate holiday home in idyllic location

  • 5 of 5

This holiday home is more than spacious and fully equipped with the most comfortable beds ever and endless hot water ! Our family of 5 had all the room we needed in the 4 bedrooms and I'm sure larger groups would be as happy. The views are spectacular (I saw a golden eagle from the back bedroom window !) Be warned the location is remote but the (hour long ??) drive from the bridge or ferry is totally worth it - we would return to this part of Skye without hesitation. Visits to Neist point and Dunvegan castle and Coral beach are easy drives. The Glendale village shop is the best tiny shop ever . Totally recommend this holiday home.

Skye is the most important centre for Gaelic culture outside of the Western Isles, and almost half the population speak Gaelic fluently; the Gaelic College on Sleat (Skye's most southern tip) is the most important in Scotland. For a sample of the local culture, visitors to the island during mid July can experience the two-week long Skye and Lochalsh Festival - the Feis an Eilean. One of the most popular sights on Skye is the Cuillin ridge, made up of jagged snow-topped peaks, which can be seen from miles around, and are suitable for experienced walkers. The other main attraction on the island is the unusual rock formations of the Trotternish Peninsula, where the pillars and pinnacles are at their most dramatic in the Quiraing above Staffin Bay, on the east coast. Whilst on the island, the capital Portree is worth a visit, with its picturesque fishing harbour encircled with restaurants, and a mile or so out of town, visitors can also experience the Aros Centre.

Coast/Beach:

10 minute walk to the pier with mackerel fishing at high tide.

A beach can be found at Glendale.

If you enjoy swimming outdoors then try Glenbrittle’s magical Faerie Pools, or try kayaking, sailing, fishing or scuba diving in the crystal clear water around

Skye's coastline.

There are numerous boat trips around Skye to see the wildlife and other islands.
