A wonderful property in a stunning setting.
We had a brilliant time. The house is located in a magnificent mountain setting and we were able to enjoy the view from the veranda and swimming pool. We enjoyed visiting the local villages, which have great character - if we could drag ourselves away from the house and pool that is. Viveca and Hans were always contactable if we needed anything. A great experience and we would love to stay again.

Unbelievably beautiful house
The house is truly stunning and in an unbelievably beautiful mountain range with soaring hills speckled with lavender and idyllic streams for swimming. Viveca was amazing and we can’t wait to return…

A simply wonderful holiday
We have stayed in many Spanish casas, but never one with so much to offer in such a lovely location with the added bonus of a lovely swimming pool. The booking arrangements were impressive, which gave us confidence. The casa is set in a lovely, fairly remote location which suited us perfectly. It's like a home from home and we simply made ouirselves at home. Hans and Viveca have a vast, eclectic library, but there wasn't really time for reading! The pool is brilliant, and is well maintained by Andreas who comes every other day to clean it, check the filters, ph and chlorine levels which fills one with confidence in using it. The living area is huge, but for us the most wonderful feature was the very long, shaded terrace dotted with Hans' interesting pot plants. His hibiscus produced two beautiful flowers whilst we were there which delighted us because we had never seen one before. The lemon tree at the end of the terrace produced innumerable huge juicy lemons which wereb great for our G&Ts. There were figs on the trees at the back of the house which provided the occasional delicious dessert after lunch, fresh from the tree. The pillars supporting the terrace roof are covered with huge jasmine and bougainvillea bushes and the at the bottom of the stairs leading to the pool area there are beautiful huge clumps of lavender which attract the beautiful bee flies, butteerflies and on one occasion a cone head mantis. The local tracks and trails are fascinating and I walked most of them up to the Torre de Vigilancia and down to the new bridge at the river and beyond. All the dirt roads seem to interconnect so it's hard to get lost. The Dia supermarket in Villanueva de la Vera has everything you may need (Larios gin 11.46 Euros a litre) and even food! Viveca and Hans are polyglot, consummate hosts for whom nothing is too much trouble. We had a wonderful 31 days here and I cannot recommend it highly enough!

Incredible setting in real wild Spain
Lovely property right in the midst of nature with stunning views. Great pool, good walks directly from house either up the hills or down to the river. Really helpful hosts who went out of their way to ensure everything was just right. Loads of birds from garden- Nightingales, Hoopoe, Cuckoos, etc. Drive from local village is 4K on a unmade track - fine for an ordinary car, just need to go slow (takes 10mins). Local villages are full of character - real, old Spain. Thoroughly recommended for nature lovers, explorers & as a get away from it all destination.

The holiday house of a lifetime!
When we were driving up in the car we were all so excited but we weren't expecting what we did get. The house was spectacular with all the rooms very well done. It had everything you needed and more for your comfort. The house had floor to ceiling windows which allowed you to see the view all the time (even when you were washing up). There is a lovely combined kitchen and living room (which is the main room) allowing you to have lots of room. All the beds are double beds and really comfortable. The outside was even better there was the glistening pool and the beautiful views. We all enjoyed sitting beside the pool in the sun reading our books with the lovely view right in front of our eyes. The pool was perfect for cooling yourself down, playing games and proper swimming. It was always clean with a very helpful man coming every other day to clean it. The view you had was the Sierra de Gredos mountains. There was also the table tennis table which every one of us enjoyed playing. The heat was lovely and warm and it was perfect to sunbathe in and get a good tan. We were there for twenty one days and it shone every day. There was a little village near the house where you had everything you needed: several bakeries, patisserie, super market , sweet shop, pharmacy and lots of lovely cafes and restaurant. In the villages every body was so cheerful and they were also so happy to help you. Nearby were also some rock pools which we enjoyed having a swim in and then eating pepas on the rocks, you could go and listen to the water rushing and watch fish swim by. I would highly recommend this house for people to stay in as you would have an amazing time and great fun. Hans and Viveca are so helpful and friendly and welcomed us so warmly into their home. So anybody who is looking at renting out this house should not hesitate! Written by Rosie age 10

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with the Sierra de Gredos soon after arriving in Spain, when we would come out on weekends to go hiking. The dramatic rocky mountain peaks covered with snow until the summer, set against the palm trees and orange trees and other lush subtropical vegetation further down, and then the endless view of the Extremadura plains. Such a sense of space and of freedom! As soon as we could we bought a plot of land here, at easy walking distance from one of the Garganta Minchones, one of the area's best mountain rivers, and built the house of my dreams here. We hope you will be able to enjoy it as much as we do.

What makes this property unique

We built the house on a spot that has 360º views, of the high mountain peaks on the north, the endless Extremadura plains on the south with the Sierra de Guadalupe and the Montes de Toledo on the horizon at 50 km. distance, and the sensual and lush hills of La Vera area all around. The architects, an American married to a Swedish woman who lived and worked in Madrid for some years, managed to preserve this sense of all-around views by putting in many large floor to ceiling windows that make the house almost transparent. The light is absolutely magical, different at all times of the day, and the place radiates an incredible sense of peace and calm. The covered terrace is our actual living space, as the climate allows for all-year-round outdoor life. What we enjoy most are the summer nights out under the amazing starry skies, and the beautiful rockpools in the Garganta Minchones, where bathing in the mineral water pools to the sound of the waterfalls feels like being in an open-air spa.
