Needless to say, the WOW factor is certainly on the menu here!

Upon entrance to The Old Mint you will find a large entrance hall, which opens out into an internal glass covered court yard with a part glass lift, which will elevate you to the entrance door of your accommodation. Upon entry you will be greeted by a very modern contemporary holiday let accommodation with a typical open plan Mediterranean kitchen/living/dining area (Air Conditioned) with lovely views over to Sliema across Marsamxett harbour, a shower room with WC and a double (Air Conditioned) bedroom with a double bed.

The second bedroom is accessed via traditional stone spiral steps having a double bed (Air Conditioned). Further to the accommodation there is large Patio Doors from the kitchen/living/dining area to a Terrace with wood table and chairs offering alfresco dining, from the terrace you will find spiral steps to the roof top terrace where you can lounge in the sun with panoramic views hard to come by in Valletta.

About the Owner

Having lived on the islands 20yrsI suppose I can now be classed as a local, formerly from Manchester in the UK. Needless to say I love the islands and the most prominent factor being the people of Malta, warm heart, sense of humour, respectful, strong family morals just about sums it up! Oh yes, to mention of course the super weather we are blessed with, after many years of rainy summers in England I am not only blessed with sunshine, but my darling local lady Carrol.

We enjoy eating out, especially Carrol..! You can be sure to enjoy some fine restaurants all over the islands, where quality is high on the menu with a great local bottle of red to wash it down, yep the true Mediterranean Maltese way. Summer months are a delight to swim in crystal blue waters and a very warm sea, snorkelling is a must!

Please do ask any questions about the accommodation or the islands as a whole, I'm a well seasoned wealth of local knowledge after 20yrs I don't think there is much I didn't do, see or eat ;)

Spacious and well situated

The booking process went smoothly and we met with Nicolina, the local property manager, at the appointed hour outside the property. A smooth elevator ride to the fourth floor and a brief and informative intro to the facilities ensued. The apartment is spacious, well designed and furnished to a good standard, in line with the online photos available. The two outside spaces were very good and much needed given the limited open spaces in Valletta. Exceptional views from the roof terrace to Sliema across the harbour together with unrestricted sun are available throughout the day. The dining terrace proved to be much more sunny and private than initially thought as the buildings opposite do not appear to be residential. Many of the better rated restaurants are close by on Old Bakery St. and South St. though walking does demand some brief but steep ascents from the location which is also near to the Sliema ferry point. Liked best - Outside space and location/views.

Excellent location, very clean and well appointed

Located close to a good selection of restaurants and a short walk to the bus station. Apartment is modern, clean and well equipped. On the equivalent of the 5th floor the lift was very practical. A 5 star rating from us.

Outstanding

Can't say enough good things about the Old Mint Penthouse. The pictures of the unit were fantastic, but the reality was even better--beautiful views from the roof and balcony, first-rate kitchen, excellent bathroom, perfect mattress on the bed for a good night's sleep.

A few notes: Truly, the location couldn't be better. It's at most a 10 minute walk from the buses, and only a couple of minutes to Republic Street (bring some good walking shoes, though, some of the streets are steep). One night, we saw the Malta Philharmonic at Manoel Theatre, walked a block afterwards for a late dinner at Legligin, and then had only a 2 minute stroll home.

I highly recommend arranging for the car pickup at the airport. Our driver took us straight to the building, which might have been a bit tricky to find for a driver not well-versed in the intricacies of the Valletta streets. She showed us everything we needed to know for our 10 days there--how to work the TV, appliances, locks on the doors, etc. By the way, the manuals for all the appliances are in a drawer in the kitchen, which was much appreciated, especially when it came to the washing machine (I did have to dust off my schoolboy Italian to decipher the latter). As others have said, you might not want to brave this unit with smaller children--there is a daunting spiral staircase down to the second bedroom, not to mention up to the rooftop. And bring some slippers for the marble floors, if you're here when the weather is chilly.

I'm a coffee lover, so I was delighted to see a French press in the kitchen. (You can find excellent beans at a shop called Chocolate District on Melita St., which they will grind for you.)

The kitchen is superbly equipped (the only thing I would add is a rack to dry dishes on).

A tiny piece of heaven!

This was a marvelous experience that we will definitely treasure and remember. It is such an out of this world experience, it seems like living in a enchanted dream that when the holiday came to an end we felt so heart broken and when we drove off leaving the gates shut behind us it was very sad we wished we could stay longer ... definitely an experience we will be returning too ... Loved it immensely.

Excellent apartment with amazing rooftop view

The penthouse was a superb light filled open plan apartment with 360 deg views from the rooftop terrace. Claire the owner was a charming and exceptionally helpful host- even drove us across Valetta to our next accommodation! She was prompt in response to any query and unfailingly cheerful. Recommend the airport pickup service as apartment could be hard to find in old Valletta's narrow streets.

Amazing - I would definitely stay here again!

We stayed in the penthouse apartment for a long weekend and all I can say is that it wasn't long enough! The apartment itself is very impressive, modern facilities whilst the building itself maintains it's old world charm. The penthouse has a very spacious living/dining room with everything provided for to make you feel at home, whilst the bedrooms are equally as comfortable. Most importantly the penthouse comes equip with a fantastic outdoor area with outdoor table/dining chairs to enjoy the lovely weather as well as an impressive rooftop with sunbeds and an amazing view over Valletta/the harbour, with spectacular views of the sunset. The location is also spot on - literally a few minutes walk from various bars/restaurants in Valletta to enjoy the local food (pastizzi!) and night life. The owner Claire was very nice and helpful to answer our questions and provide a source of information on our arrival. I would definitely recommend staying here to anyone thinking of visiting!
