Simply Stunning!

  • 5 of 5

What a great place to stay, a wonderful apartment kept pristine by wonderful hosts Nigel & Sue!

Set in a stunning location, only a little drive from the Local Village Rubio which itself is beautiful which some lovely small bars and great places to eat. A car is advisable if you want to get out and about as there are no taxis or busses locally, but don't let this put you off as if you want to stay at home simply stock up relax and enjoy the pool and surroundings.

The apartment is part of a stunning mill conversion with superb facilities, a traditional style with a modern feel and kept in pristine condition.

As for the hosts, they live on site and great you with great warmth and whilst they live on site they you would not know they are there, unless of course you need them, then there is plenty to offer... great conversation and knowledge of the local area and will do anything to help you along with your holiday, but they are only about if you need them.... Nothing was too much trouble!

Simply a stunning well kept gem in a beautiful area surrounded by Olive groves with spectacular views...... We will be back!

Thanks, Richard & Michelle.

Fantastic villa and wonderful hosts

  • 5 of 5

We spent a great 2 weeks in Velez-Rubio. It was an exceptional villa with great facilities. Our hosts, Sue and Nigel, made us very welcome and made settling in a breeze. The location is off the beaten track but we had the peace and quiet we were looking for. Plenty to see and do locally, or if you want to just chill out, this villa is perfect.

Thanks for a great holiday!

Owner's Response: Thank you Appleby for choosing to visit our apartment and for your great review. It was a pleasure to have you all to stay and pleased you had a good holiday. Yes, I know it seems we're a bit off the beaten track, but in reality it's only 12 minutes to the nearby town - but as you say it is very peaceful. We hope to welcome you all back for another stay.

Peace and quiet, stunning view and relaxing pool.

  • 5 of 5

The property is near the pretty town of Velez Rubio with its lovely church and square and several authentic Spanish restaurants. The property is just a few miles away in a secluded spot in amongst the olive groves. We found it ideal for rest and recuperation from our hectic everyday lives. The apartment has a lovely large verandah/balcony with room to recline or eat meals at the large table, whilst admiring the stunning views of distant mountains. The only sound was the cicadas! Bliss! The spacious, clean apartment is well-equipped with 3 large bedrooms, each having their own bathroom. The beds were large and comfortable. Kitchen also well-equipped with everything you need.

The property has a lovely swimming pool and poolside area with plenty of recliners and sun umbrellas for shade. The pool was immaculately kept, water crystal clear and just the right temperature.

Sue the owner and her husband live on-site in their house and we found that excellent as any small hitches or enquiries were resolved immediately. Sue came to meet us in Velez Rubio to guide us to the property as it is secluded and there are many tiny roads in the vicinity. She was friendly and knowledgable about the area, and gave us advice on where to go and how to go about it. Yet she is also discreet, so we felt quite private at the property. It was a good balance and we felt she was keen for us to enjoy our stay here. We had a trip to Granada to see the Alhambra Palace, which is highly recommended, about an hour and a half away. Sue advised us to get our tickets on line first to be sure of gaining admittance. We also enjoyed a visit to nearby Velez Blanco and its market, great views and a castle, very picturesque. We also visited the beautiful turquoise Baza Lakes and there is a spa there where visitors can buy a day pass to use the facilities. Sue recommended us a couple of restaurants in Velez Rubio which were friendly with good food and also explained how to get to the supermarket. The town had a fiesta on the week we visited (first week of August), so we walked around the fairground at night and there was a lovely, family-friendly atmosphere.

If you like a relaxing holiday, away from it all in traditional Spain with a kind and friendly but inobtrusive host, this is the place for you and we highly recommend it.

Owner's Response: Wow! What can I say, but thank you for your amazing review. We really enjoyed having you and your family to stay and we're delighted you had a good rest and holiday. We love it here, because we feel we have found the "real Spain" not commercialised or touristy, but just how the Spanish live and work. We hope you'll come back for another visit.

Excellent spacious & well appointed property.

  • 5 of 5

The property location was perfect as far enough away from any towns but close enough to visit for shopping & restaurants. Very relaxing with friendly owners who were there if you required anything but otherwise invisible. The fridge was stocked with essentials + extras on arrival. A good selection of leaflets about places to visit, restaurants etc. I would definitely recommend the property to friends & relations. Very relaxing in beautiful surroundings.

Perfect Bliss

  • 5 of 5

I hesitate to review this property honestly because it's the sort of place I'd like to keep all to myself!

'Luxury' is an appropriate description of this apartment on the first floor of a converted olive mill. It's spacious (big rooms, high ceilings), very comfortable, spotless and equipped with everything needed for a perfect holiday. You will need a car: although the house is not far off a tarmac road (and our little Smart car coped with the unmade access lane), it is a few kilometres away from the nearest towns with their shops, bars, restaurants (from budget to gourmet) and other facilities.

The standard of the accommodation, beauty of the surroundings and the really kind, considerate and discreet owners (who live on the ground floor) are more than compensation for the remoteness of the location.

When you're not feeling energetic enough to go anywhere you can lounge by the pool or chill out on your private terrace and gaze at the stunning mountain view while sipping your wine, or using the barbecue. But there is plenty to explore when you go out and about.

This is a place that will appeal particularly to walkers and birdwatchers. We were there in late April and enjoyed walking in the sunshine in the nearby Parque Natural, and being awoken each morning by Hoopoes, Orieles and Cuckoos. The barranco within walking distance of the house was alive with assorted warblers (mostly invisible, of course) and Bee-eaters. We saw Booted Eagles and Griffon Vultures overhead.

We loved it all.
