4 Bedrooms, 4 Bathrooms, With Views Over The Rolling Galloway Countryside
Located on the historic Corsewall Estate, High Clachan Farmhouse has recently been fully restored and renovated. This luxury self catering house comfortably accommodates eight people. During the low season we do special rates for four people too. All the bedrooms and public rooms at High Clachan have charming rural views.
On entering, the pretty farmhouse has a large breakfasting kitchen, with charming restored church pews forming seats around the dining table. Off the kitchen is a large conservatory, with another dining table and arm chairs, so guests can either choose to eat here, relax, play games or take in the views.
The sitting room is located to the left of the front door and has a log burning stove - which gives off a great heat and wood is provided free of charge. There is a large corner sofa, other various arm chairs and chairs, a television and DVD player.
The master bedroom, with a king size bed, is also located on the ground floor. It has an en suite bathroom with a bath and separate shower. Next door is a bedroom with a full sized bunkbed, which is ideal if you have children and want them close by at night.
Upstairs there are two further bedrooms, which have zip and link beds so can either be made up as twin or double (super king) beds. Full of character, these bedrooms each have the original fireplaces. Both bedrooms have huge en suite bathrooms with Victorian style free standing baths for added luxury and separate showers and under floor heating. There is also an additional house bathroom upstairs, with a bath and overhead shower.
Downstairs, the house also has an utility room, with a washing machine, which is a great space for storing and hanging up outside clobber. There is also a separate WC.
All linen, fluffy towels, extra thick feather filled duvets and pillows are provided. Heating, electricity and logs are also included in the price.
High Clachan is equipped with WiFi, a flat screen television, Freeview Box, DVD player; Roberts radio, a selection of board games, books and classic films. It has its own private garden with a croquet lawn including garden furniture and a barbecue.
At the gardens of main house we have a lots for children to do - from a newly installed 60 metre zip wire, a 14 ft trampoline with safety net, a great wendy house with two floors and an amazing climbing frame, complete with swings, a back to back glider, look out house (with binoculars for spotting baddies), slide and climbing wall. There's also a campfire in the woods for toasting marshmallows.

About Kate Carrick-Buchanan
We have currently have five holiday cottages - three on our country estate - Corsewall Estate Holiday Cottages on Loch Ryan near Stranraer, Cedar Lodge in Portpatrick and a luxury two bedroom apartment in Edinburgh. We've enjoyed welcoming guests to our properties since 2006.
Kate Carrick-Buchanan purchased this farmhouse in 2002
Why Kate Carrick-Buchanan chose Dumfries & Galloway
We completed renovated High Clachan Farmhouse in 2012, creating a wonderful holiday house with four bedrooms and three en suite bathrooms - so it's ideal for large families or family groups getting away together. The house is in a quiet and peaceful location in south west Scotland, far away from crowds, traffic jams and the stress of everyday life. It's surrounded by rolling countryside and is 3/4s of a mile from a pretty beach.
What makes this farmhouse unique
High Clachan is a pretty white farmhouse, close to the sea in the peaceful countryside in south west Scotland. It has a log burning stove in the sitting room with a limitless supply of logs, which makes it very cosy in autumn and winter. Two of the three en suite bathrooms have luxurious Victorian-style roll top baths - perfect for relaxing soaks after a busy day out walking or on the beach. As well as a bath, all the en suites have walk in showers too.

Ideal in so many ways!!
Our stay was perfect in every way. The accommodation exceeded expectations, was clean, well maintained and thoughtfully furnished with all the facilities one hopes to find. As the rest of our extended family were staying in the two other properties at Corsewall, the farmhouse was large enough to accommodate everyone at suppertime, most often firing up the bbq and cooking up a storm. Everyone enjoyed a truly memorable week. A big thank you to all concerned.
Finding a property large enough to accommodate 5 adults and two children can be difficult. High Clachan fulfilled all our requirements, with wonderfully comfortable beds, 4 huge bathrooms and a great kitchen diner large enough to allow us to socialise while the food was being prepared. The sitting room was comfortable and the conservatory a brilliant space in which to play games (and dry the washing) It was such a peaceful place with views for miles.
Angus met us as we arrived to ensure that we had everything we needed and made us feel that the house was our home for the time we were there. The house certainly ticked all the boxes for us all.
A fabulous farmhouse
We have just returned from a fantastic few days at high clachan farmhouse. The whole experience was excellent from beginning to end. The house is beautiful and spacious, with everything we could possibly have needed! The kids had lots of room to play. They loved the garden and had lots of fun watching the bunny rabbits run around in the next door fields! The extra touches, like the welcome package with the home made cookies, simply added to the whole experience. The owners, Kate and Angus, could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The highlight of our stay was a stargazing night that they had
arranged on the estate. All the children had great fun toasting marshmallows on the campfire and learning all about the stars. We will definitely be returning to High Clachan Farm and are looking forward to it already!
Didnt matter about the shocking weather - great place for a break!
Liked it so much we didnt want to leave
We shall return!
On arrival we were very impressed by your lovely spacious farm house. We loved the fantastic views, lovely walks on estate, fabulous conservatory where we had all our meals and played games every night with the children, while watching the deer, rabbits, and bird life. Annual fishing competition went really well and all enjoyed the spoils of the loch. although we ate out most nights finding some excellent restuarants in Stranraer, Sandhead, and Portpatrick< we also took advantage a few nights of the large kitchen and great cooking facilities in the house. We also enjoyed the games and sunsets. overall a great venue and base, great memories and fun by all three generations. would thoroughly recommend property as a great family holiday.
Just returned from a two week stay in this beautiful haven of peace and tranquility. Holidaying in Scotland every year we finally found this perfect house in the most perfect location. Walks in the woods, walks on the nearby beaches and through the beautiful estate gardens. Our children aged 6 and 4 have many happy memories of the wonderful nature scenes in abundance whilst there. We were all sad to leave. Would strongly recommend high clachan for a family holiday or gathering for those that appreciate what nature has to offer. The house is the perfect home from home with absolutely everything you could need and more. We 'll definitely be back there.:-)

Activity and Interests
Located on Corsewall Estate, close to the village of Kirkcolm, surrounded by open farm land, High Clachan is a charming farmhouse dating back to the 18th century.
The house is 3/4s of a mile down a quiet country lane from Port Beg - one of the Estate's three beaches on the sea loch of Loch Ryan. Port Beg is a pretty bay, pebbly down to the waterline and then sandy in the sea - ideal for paddling and swimming. There are lots of rock pools - so a bucket and a net is a must for the kids! There's a grassy area for picnics and barbies and the views out to sea, with Ailsa Craig in the foreground and Arran in the distance, are simply magical.
Lady Bay and Boat Bank are the two other beaches on Corsewall Estate that guests at High Clachan can explore. Both of these are wonderful if you like collecting shells or pebbles - oyster shells and mussels to cowries and scallop shells never fail to disappoint. Bird watching down on the shores of Loch Ryan or in the woods is second to none.
High Clachan has a huge lawn in front of the house - so it's a great place for children to play football or for a game of croquet - croquet set supplied!
There are lots of walks around the farmhouse to enjoy. Head down to the shore on Loch Ryan, or a walk through the fields at the back of the house will bring you to a network of walking and cycling tracks through the woods around the Estate. At certain times of the year, the tracks are full of colour - from snowdrops in February and daffodils in March to bluebells in April.
The Blue Peter pub in the village of Kirkcolm is 3/4s of a mile away. Under new ownership, the pub has good pub grub and also does great take away fish and chips - a 'must eat' while on holiday by the coast!
There are so many things to do and see in Dumfries & Galloway - mountain biking at one of the 7Stanes mountain biking centres; walking in the Galloway Forest Park; visiting the Cocoa Bean Chocolate Factory at Twynholm and the Cream O Galloway ice cream visitor centre near Gatehouse of Fleet or the Gem Rock Museum at Creetown. Culzean Castle and Country Park is just over an hour's drive up the scenic Ayrshire Coast - which is a great attraction to visit as there is so much to see and do.
If you're mad about golf, there are a number of excellent courses including Stranraer Golf Course, designed by James Braid, the Portpatrick Dunskey course at Portpatrick, the Wigtownshire Golf Course at Glenluce and Turnberry, which is under an hour's drive away. There are lots of pretty towns and villages to explore - from Portpatrick to Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright.
The Rhins of Galloway boasts many beautiful sandy beaches to take the children to - including Killantringan, Larbrax and Laird's Bay - very much like Cornwall but without all the crowds.
There are a number of pretty gardens to visit - from the Logan Botanical Gardens and Ardwell to Dunskey and Glenwhan to Castle Kennedy where you will see exotic plants in abundance and riots of colour.
The Mull of Galloway, with a working lighthouse, which you can visit and climb right to the top of the light tower, is a must see. It is Scotland's most southerly point and on clear days you can see England, Ireland and the Isle of Man.
- We also provide rental rates for smaller groups of 2 and 4 people in low/mid season - do drop me an email if this is of interest.
