About the property

Villa in Vila Nova de Cacela, Eastern Algarve, Portugal

Casa Ericalena has two bedrooms downstairs with twin beds both of which have their own ensuite bathrooms. Upstairs there are two more bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with two single beds. There is also a futon and a baby cot. Although there is a very spacious lounge area downstairs, there is also a separate seating area upstairs which is perfect for some quiet time or for the children to play away from the adults. Casa Ericalena has a secluded garden, veranda and splash pool which is perfect for a quick cool down in between lounging around catching the rays. The rooms have a very high ceiling which keeps them cool in the heat of the Summer.

You are within easy walking distance of the centre of the quiet town of Vila Nova de Cacela with supermarkets, some excellent restaurants, bars, cafés and shops as well as two banks, a pharmacy, taxi rank and a local market. If golf is your thing, there are seven 18-hole golf courses within 15 minutes car drive.

You can also walk to the beach at Manta Rota although it will take about 20 minutes. The beach is amazing though and not to be missed. There are plenty of watering holes along the way to stop for a quick beer , a coffee or ice cream on the way there or back. Everything you need is within easy reach of Casa Ericalena so a car is not essential. We can also organise collection from and delivery back to Faro airport.

Why Jo Tarling chose Vila Nova de Cacela

Casa Ericalena is set in the quiet area of Villa Nova de Cacela. The Villa is a great location for the beach, train station and the N125 if you wish to hire a car. Restaurants, shops, coffee shops are all within walking distance.

Casa Ericalena gives you home from home comforts and the sense of getting away from it all. Our Property manager lives locally and has a wealth of information about the area and is contactable 24/7. You are also within walking distance of the local train with a service that runs from one end of the Algarve to the other so you can easily explore and enjoy the entire region.

What makes this villa unique

Casa Ericalena has kept its Portuguese charm whilst giving you the holidaymaker all the mod cons you need to enjoy your holiday.

The courtyard is an excellent suntrap, however if you prefer to laze in the shade there is a shaded veranda, ideal for BBQ's. Local people in the area are very friendly and prices for dining out are very reasonable.

Perfect for our family the only thing we would suggest would be air conditioners in the bedrooms

Was our first time in Portugal and we all loved the people and the beaches in Monta Rota were fantastic. We lost our wallet with a substantial amount of cash inside and when we went back early in the morning to the fresh market it was waiting for us👏𣰼􎿻👏𣰼􎿻.

Beautiful villa in quiet village

  • 5 of 5

We were two families of 4, staying for 10 nights. Our first impressions were that the villa is beautiful, it is very spacious very clean and well maintained. We arrived late at night and Ken was there to meet us at the house, he was friendly and helpful and showed us how everything worked.

The villa is in a very quiet location, however there are shops and restaurants, plus a bank, post office and pharmacy within a short walk. The local spar had a lovely fresh bakery selling baguettes, rolls and pastries which were all lovely. There was also a fresh meat counter and you could buy fresh fish on the square just outside the spar.

The beach took us about 25/30 minutes to get to (we had young children with us, could possibly be quicker if just adults). It's a gorgeous beach and there are more cafes, shops and restaurants down there. In particular, Mars Bar and Bistro was lovely, the chicken burritos are amazing!

We booked a day trip to aquashow through the post office. They were fantastic, spoke good English and sorted our tickets and coach travel out, we would recommend aquashow, we all had a fantastic time!

We had a fantastic time and the service provided from Jo (booking agent) and Ken (owner) was faultless. I would recommend this villa to friends and family looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday. Everything was as described. The only thing I think the villa could benefit from is more air conditioning as it is only in one bedroom at the moment. Learning some basic Portuguese would help you too if you are thinking of visiting, not many speak much English. This didn't bother us though, google translator helped tremendously!

Overall, a lovely relaxing holiday and I would not hesitate in recommending to anyone.

Our overall impression was very good the villa was lovely spacious and very clean.

  • 5 of 5

We were four women who rented the villa for a week. We had a fantastic holiday. The villa was exactly as advertised lovely room sizes and everything you could need for cooking etc.... It was very clean and there was even food and drink put in the fridge for us as we arrived late. Ken who owns the villa was so lovely collecting us from the airport and very helpful with suggestions of where to eat and things to do. We spend lots of time in little courtyard and having the dip pool was really great for cooling off with lots of towels the villa was very well equipped. It is very well located we didn't have a car and could easily walk to restaurants and supermarkets and other local shops.

We all had a great time and would definitely recommend this villa.

  • 5 of 5

Great villa in which our Family of 10 stayed, within easy reach of all shops and train station. 25 minute walk to the beach which was not a problem as kept us all fit. Would definitely stay again and the area of Manta Rota has fantastic beaches and facilities including restaurants were all very good.

Unspoilt, traditional Portuguese Villa

  • 5 of 5

We wanted some peace and quiet a chance to relax on this holiday and somewhere where we did not have to drive and could walk to places if we wanted. The villa was perfect, close enough to get out and see things but on the edge of the village so we could walk to the shops, bars and restaurants - it was so easy. The villa is full of original features with some modern bits as well. Having two separate living rooms was great as the kids could make noise and play games upstairs and we could relax in the other! The villa is well maintained throughout and spotlessly clean on the day we arrived. Check in / out was on time, painless and the managers were very helpful in suggesting where to eat / shop for food, etc. The small pool is perfect for a cooling dip in the heat of the afternoon and the sun terrace is well protected from the wind - we enjoyed a few good BBQ's in the garden! Everything you could want we found in the villa, including all towels and linen - which helped with today's restricted baggage allowances! The local restaurants were mainly traditional Portuguese such as oven cooked meat, often with bread or potatoes in the pot or grilled chicken or pork with chips which suited the kids. The best chicken piri-piri we have ever tasted was at O'Ligerio restaurant which was a five minute walk away and prices are very reasonable. One treat if you fancy cooking your own, was "Steak on the stone" - a hot rock, a raw steak and a bib are the main kit! It was about a 10 - 15 minute walk to Manta Rota where we found Mar's Bar and had lovely toasted sandwiches for lunch. The beach was just a few minutes further down the road - and absolutely stunning. It was so clean and went on for miles - the sea was a bit cold though!! We hope to return later in the year with friends for another unwind!

The Algarve has one of the mildest and sunniest climates in Europe. That means it makes a welcome break from most of the European countries at any time of year: winter, spring, summer or autumn. The Eastern Algarve doesn’t really have a winter, it just goes from a hot dry summer to an extended spring. However, temperatures are lowest and rainfall highest between November and February. But within these months, there are many days of blue skies when daytime temperatures in the sun reach mid to high 20′s centigrade and you can quiet easily sunbath. These warm ‘winter’ days are some of the nicest of the year. However, when the skies are clear, the evenings and the early mornings can be chilly, though it is very rare for temperatures to drop to zero overnight.

At Casa Ericalena, you have the best of both worlds...a period restored typical Algarvian property with a small pool but within a stone's throw of the lovely little village of Vila Nova de Cacela where you will find supermarkets, banks, a pharmacy, a local market and plenty of good restaurants, bars and cafes. You are only 15 mins drive from the picturesque town of Tavira which is an absolute must when staying at Casa Ericalena. You will be enthralled by its unspoiled charm, character and tranquility. A Roman bridge links the 2 parts of the town across the River Gilao, its sides decorated with traditional old bars and restaurants where you can relax and enjoy a peaceful drink or meal. Horse drawn carriages and a small train operate around the town and are perfect for sightseeing and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.

In the other direction is Vila Real do Santo Antonio which is the last town before you reach Spain which is great for a day trip to . discover the culture of another country, including wine, tapas and excellent shopping. If you want to travel further afield, you can reach the vibrant city of Seville in approximately one and a half hours where the architecture (and shopping) is amazing!

The East Algarve is a direct contrast to the West: The coastal towns of the eastern Algarve are ‘real’ towns, far more under-developed than those in the Central and Western area of the Algarve. If you are after a more relaxed style of holiday, away from the hordes of tourists and water parks, then the Eastern Algarve is the place to come. It is very reasonably priced and you get to visit the real Portugal especially further inland, where the area is completely undeveloped. Small rustic villages nestle in the remote countryside where you will find the local inhabitants going about their daily business, the same today as they did many generations before.

One of the real benefits of Casa Ericalena is the close proximity of the regional railway station that means you can catch a train from the back to the airport in Faro and also travel out and about during your holiday by train. It is inexpensive and reliable. It runs the full length of the Algarve to you can head towards Spain to Vila Real d Santo Antonio or West towards Vilamoura, Portimao or Lagos. It is a very popular means of transport and is only 5- 10 mins from the house.
