About this property

Old Mairie (Town Hall) In Small Hamlet In The Gard

Completely renovated this typically French house has been used in the past as a schoolhouse and was formerly the Mairie for St Hippolyte de Montaigu (old town hall). There is space to park two large cars in front of the house. Adjacent is the old Mairie car park which has plenty of space for parking . The front garden has a table with chairs and a parasol. The house has a salon, a kitchen/dining room, four double bedrooms and three shower/bathrooms, (one bedroom and shower room is situated on the ground floor). The salon has a large LCD TV and working fireplace. There is an airy kitchen/dining room with double doors opening onto a patio with a table seating 8, complete with parasol. The kitchen is fully equipped with range cooker, American style fridge freezer, dishwasher & microwave. There is a washing machine in the laundry room which is accessed from the front garden. At the end of the kitchen there is a short corridor leading to a double bedroom (4) with wardrobe and a bathroom equipped with walk in shower, hand basin and toilet. The bedroom also has double doors that open onto the patio. From the hallway the original stone stair case rises to the 1st floor where there are three further bedrooms and two shower/bathrooms. The master bedroom (1) has a large built in wardrobe and an en-suite bathroom with toilet, washbasin and walk in shower. There are two twin bedrooms (2+3) with wardrobes, which share the third bathroom with a combined bath/shower, toilet and washbasin. At the back of the house there is a patio, gated 8 x 4m swimming pool and gravelled garden. Wi Fi box located in office/hall. A baby cot and a high chair also available. The village has a small shop within a short walk from the house which sells fresh croissants and bread, fresh fruit, vegetables , wine (and rotisserie chicken at the weekend). There is a Pizza delivery van which comes into the village and outside our house on Thursdays.

Wonderful Holiday House
We had a fantastic stay with our family of 4. The house was great, comfy beds, great showers and the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. The pool was wonderful, we took an inflatable ring and some lilos and spent hours around the pool, everyone loved it. Enjoyed eating under the shade outside. The house was perfect and we don’t have any complaints. We enjoyed regular trips to Uzes, the markets on Wed & and Sat were wonderful. We followed advice and went in very early to secure a parking spot, we were having breakfast with locals at 8.30 am. We found the underground multi-storey car park handy for parking. We enjoyed day trips to Avignon and Nimes, loved the amphithéâtre there and walking down the cobbled streets. We hiked up behind the house to the look out point, beautiful hike through the pine forest, we were out hiking at 7.30 am to avoid the heat. We enjoyed finding the geocache in the village and at the look out point! We cycled from the house past the vineyards to the neighbouring village to the tiny boulangerie, selling a variety of breads and cakes, we also enjoyed cycling through the tracks behind the village but the main road is just too busy to cycle into Uzes, especially with kids. I don’t think I would make the effort to take the bikes if we went again as no cycle paths into Uzes. The village shop was handy for pre-ordering croissants and pain au chocolat and local figs and fruit. All in all a beautiful area and we would def return to the house!

Beautiful Historic Home
A beautiful historic home. It has all the amenities we needed, and is in a peaceful location, but very close to a main road into Uzès We stayed for about a week over Easter 2023, so it wasn't warm enough to use the pool or garden, but they both looked fine.

August stay
We had a wonderful stay in the house which is ideal for two families. We would echo the positive comments made by other reviewers. Particular highlights were the pool, outside dining and its location in a quiet village near Uzes, while the interior of the house is impeccable. Recommended.

Perfect house and location
We had a fantastic week. The house is lovely and worked brilliantly for two families of four. We used the pool daily and enjoyed several day trips. The little shop in the hamlet was great for ordering bread and croissants. There really wasn’t anything that could have been better for us.

We are three friends who own a beautiful house with a private pool in a rural hamlet in the sunshine region, 5 minute's drive from the medieval town of Uzes.

What makes this property unique

L'Ancienne Mairie is a beautiful and much admired building. If the shutters are kept closed the thick walls ensure that the interior stays cool in the summer and the efficient central heating keeps it warm in the winter. During summer activity is largely centred around the patio and swimming pool but the salon and garden provide quiet areas for reading etc. The swimming pool has 4 easy access wide steps at the shallow end which are very useful for small children or adults who have difficulty using a standard bathing ladder. Uzes is a hidden gem situated in the Gard not far from Avignon, Nimes, Montpelier and Provence. A lovely small historic town with numerous cafes and restaurants. It's a great place to wind down and relax.
