About Marjorie Hamilton

A five year worldwide search discovered The Beach House. The perfect place for me to write and paint. A step off the world, a place to dream and to work on my dreams. Steps onto the sand (as I'd seen in the movies) was the criteria. With 180 degree roof terrace panorama of the Adriatic, an award winning beach and crystal waters the setting offered privacy and tranquility a step away from local delights. I immersed myself in creating what my visiting friends call 'The Spa'. I indulged in renovating this perfectly located 'On the Beach' home, its terraces and grounds to a high 'beach' specification in quality finishes that harmonise with the beach location. Outside living for most months of the year, it is good for the soul. Wrapped in white sheets, surrounded by silence, and with siesta time enjoy 'two days in every one'.

Marjorie Hamilton purchased this villa in 2008

Why Marjorie Hamilton chose Brindisi area

1. Perfectly located (fitted perfectly with my dream of a house on the beach - I'd seen it in the movies and then I found it when I fell in love with the laid back, chilled out, traditional values and fabulous hidden five star extras of Puglia.) To share the treat I offer my indulgently created discovery at a great value price for ' on the beach ' to lovely people who think they can slow down and embrace this fabulous place.

2. Designed for comfort. Unlike many Italian holiday homes the beach house has all the added extras you would expect in a home from home, plus the extras that make living on the beach so much fun.

3. Wide choice of airports;

Brindisi 20 mins ( pick up a car or jump in a taxi (50 euro)

Bari 50 mins ( pick up a car or take the train from Airport to Ostuni - see the wide open, often unchanged countryside of olive groves, vineyards and stunning coastline - a treat en route to your beach house. Jump in a taxi from Ostuni station to the beach house for (10/15 euros)

Naples 2-3 hrs ( lovely drive across southern Italy )

Pescara 3 hrs ( fabulous coastal road; see many stunning Adriatic coastal towns on your way to the beach house ..... Especially because once you arrive at the beach house, all your intentions to tour Puglia will be ' domani ' such is the wonderful 'step off the world' location.

Rome 5-6 hours ( take train into Rome for a day or two before driving down to the beach house, see and feel the history then escape to the beach. A delicious drive from Rome across to Puglia.)

Arrive chilled.....Getting to the beach house I see as not so much part of the journey as part of the holiday. There are a variety of routes, all with unique attractions, and flying a day or two earlier than the peak season weekends you can take advantage of flight deals. Check out the options - I find skyscanner useful for best combo of flights and often fly into one airport but out of another. Cars can be picked up in one and dropped off in another.

What makes this villa unique

1. No dangerous swimming pool for small children. Many in Puglia present problems from slipping, chemicals and mosquitos.

2. No need to load up and travel in a hot car to find a beach ( ie problems of parking/walking some distance/lack of shade and lack of facilities). Simply step off the terrace onto the sand and pop back and forward for every comfort - your own 'fully equipped for beach life' villa ON THE BEACH.

3. Be part of a village but on the edge of it ie behind your gates and in enclosed grounds lies privacy, tranquility and open aspect. Just a few minutes walk beyond the gates (early to late Summer) you'll find convenience (deli, minimarket, rotisserie chicken, fresh fruit and veg and for lazy days pizzeria or masseria for lunch and dinner....... Or stay within your own ground and wander just 50m 'by sand' along the beach to enjoy great coffee/ beer and ice cream at the beach bar or nearby wee cafe) a step away.

4. Step from the bedroom to the terraces and from the roof terrace enjoy views across beach, Adriatic and lush green coastline with uninterrupted views. You'll be living right at the beach, enjoying easy access as opposed to being on a coastal hillside someway inland with a sea view. If it's a beach holiday as opposed to just a sea view that you are looking for then this villa is a rare find.

5. Out of the main season the beach house makes a great base for those who love the natural aspects of the beach. The treat of a warm sunny day on the often deserted beach is wonderful. Add fabulous coastal walks and traditional Puglian foods, wines and assorted other delights, small villages to explore, great restaurants etc all but a short drive.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I stayed at the beach house as a single mother with 3 small children under 6 years old for 10 days in July. The house was beautifully decorated, equipped and luxurious and provided the perfect and most relaxing escape from it all in the rustic and rural location of Puglia. A lot of attention paid to detail ensured we were never without any modern amenities and were more than comfortable the entire length of our stay. The view, surroundings and atmosphere was just what I was looking for and the beach house exceeded all expectation. It was paradise and a real delight for all of us! I was specifically looking for a property with no pool due to the danger it presents with young children. Being located above the beach and part of a very relaxed and traditional old world village without the same health and safety concerns I am accustomed to, the need for close child supervision and firm boundaries to be set was important but no different to any other holiday I have had elsewhere in the world. A typical day would be spent around the house and garden in the morning with the afternoon and early evening being spent at the award winning beach a stone's throw away. The beach is spotless and the water beautiful. Being a bay, the children were able to swim safely without current or waves. Life guards were on duty as well for added peace of mind. We had no need for a car as there is a local convenience store next door stocking all essentials required. Only on one occasion did we venture out into the nearby walled city of Ostuni which is well worth a visit. All in all, this holiday has been one of our best yet. 5 stars and not a single complaint from us! Thank you very much!

My Response

Thank you Sarah. What a treat having you guys at the beach house. Lovely to see the children glowing with energy and loving the beach...... And their wee faces when they shared that giant beachtowel after the outside 'sand-off shower' - brings back memories. Hope to see you guys back at the beach house another time. Know you found it relaxing.Sarah, think the chilled out, laid back approach to life in Puglia really suited you. Hugs to your gorgeous three little ones, they were so good at adapting to Puglian pace; play, sleep, play, sleep..... Two days in every one! Marji

I would like to express my big thanks to the owner of the house! We had a wonderful stay and I would highly recommend this beautiful house.

It has a unique and privileged position, very close to the market, village centre, etc. and yet being secluded and very private. Stairs at the back of the garden lead directly to an appealing small beach, perfect both for children and adults.

The house provides full comfort in every aspect - carefully and tastefully furnished, lots of candles and small lights, VERY comfortable interiors.

The garden and outdoor space is simply superb! with fantastic hammock, grill, two big tables and plenty of space just to enjoy the fresh air.

It also has a great rooftop terrace.

Owner's Response: Thank you Agnieszka, delighted to have you and your family stay at my beautiful beach house. I know you loved the opportunity to switch off from your busy life and embrace the slow pace of life on a perfect Puglian beach. Great for your children to step onto the sand, swim in clear seas without you having to pack up, drive, park etc. Also complimenti on your excellent English language! Looking forward to having you stay again in the future - special discount when you do. Kindest Regards Marji

The house offers all you need! Specially the space outside is nice. We've enjoyed to chillout there and have a glass of wine while our littel one was sleeping peacfully inside. Also the nice town Ostuni is very close by. Best is to have a car during your stay to explore the sourroundings. The communicaion with Marji was very polite and helpfull. Owner's Response: So the new gazebo ( 2016) provided shade, space and comfort - and great views - fabulous. While being close by your little one at siesta/evenings - that's great. Delighted that you enjoyed a relaxing holiday - from memory that was quite a challenge when my children were very young. I think having everything to hand in the house, and all you need for beach days, beach a few steps away, your own private direct beach access is the answer.

We had a great time there with our 1.5yo son! It was very peaceful and the really closeby beach with the beach café was perfect for us.

Owner's Response: Guessing the new gazebo was the scene of a few wines - just a few steps away from your little boy sleeping, and 'a million miles' away from the hustle bustle of work and home. Lovely having you guys stay - hurry back 😎😀 Ciao 4 Now Marji

With a fabulous new gazebo beautifully furnished for lazy shaded lunches overlooking the beach with the waves rolling in, and the beach just a few steps away, it was just wonderful. Slept so soundly, feel totally refreshed. Will be back.

This is a property fitted out with all the thoughtful things that are needed for a homeaway stay. With fond memories of our first stay at Marji’s Beach House, we returned. It was another fabulous holiday. Plenty of space for the four of us (two couples) to find our own sun/shade/chat and tranquillity. The little changes adding even more comfort and convenience were appreciated, but all in all it was the same quality, lazy days, the tranquillity, the great foods (and wines), and all Marji’s hints at how to discover the best of Puglia off the beaten track that made our holiday perfect. In reality we didn’t venture as far as we might have - it was all too convenient …… a great beach at the foot of the terrace steps tempted lazy beach house days, p&q to lie on the sun beds and read, a swim, BBQ lunch, sunsets on the roof terrace and warm sea breezes in the evenings cooking surf and turf around the fire pit table. Really pleased we returned. Seduced, think we’ll be back! Again!

Fantastic Area, walk further away from main beach

  • 4 of 5

The property was lovely and clean, well laid out with fantastic notes about the area. Marjorie was very helpful and we particularly enjoyed the outside seating areas and roof top seating. The view from the roof was super. August is a very busy time and the immediate beach is packed with tourists. We walked further on to more secluded areas about 10-15 minutes from the house. The water was lovely and we enjoyed our swims. The shop near by was well stocked and had delicious deli food.

I would recommend this property to a family with slightly younger children. The twin beds were slightly smaller than my 18 and 20 year old needed for comfort. My husband and I enjoyed the round bed though and I was thrilled we had mosquito nets. The kitchen was well stocked and the coffee maker was super. Ostuni and surrounding villages in the hills were wonderful to visit! And the restaurants recommended were excellent. Puglia is a wonderful place, take advantage of the private beach areas.
