Overview

About the property

5 Bedrooms And 5 Baths, Overlooking The Mediterranean

Villa Adorable is a luxury home, newly renovated and redecorated stone farmhouse. The house is from the 17th century, and ones served as a Clementine grove. The villa is embedded in a large garden on 5 levels, with a swimming pool, several outdoor eating areas, and table tennis. It even has a private Pétanque area.

There are 5 bedrooms, all with private bathrooms. There is the possibility to sleep a couple of more children, in the house. We have a bunk bed, a sleeping couch and a baby bed. But 10-12 adults, 2-4 children and a baby, is a definitive maximum for the house.

The two top floor bedrooms are air-conditioned. The others are on the ground floor, so less warm, but equipped with fans. From the living room, you enter the garden and an amazing terrace overlooking the Mediterranean and the different levels in the garden. Here, as in some of the other rooms, there is a fireplace.

The dining-room area, is next to an open style kitchen, and also opens up to the terrace.

As the house is located on many levels, it is very easy to retire and find privacy, if you are 2 families. Villa Adorable is perfect for 2 families and can actually house 3 families if necessary. Moreover, the garden offers many private areas, where you individually can find peace and calmness, while others are floating around the pool or playing pétanque, or maybe someone is cooking a pizza in our outdoor pizza-oven, probably one of our favourite things to do in the family.

About Nicolai Henckel

Our familiy lives in Denmark, Copenhagen. We are a family of 5. We have our own business - www.youheshe.com - primarily selling designer clothing online. We have been coming to Haut de Cagnes, since 2002. And fell in love with this part of the Riviera - mainly due to its incredible charm and seduction, its calmness and the very authenticity that the main square offers - Chateau de Grimaldi.

We have decided to open our house up for rentals, and share the preciousness of our Villa Adorable. Once opening our house up for rental, we do ask our renters to respect our property, and treat it as if it was your own. Renting out our home, was not an easy decision, but since we do not have enough time to enjoy the house, we thought we better share the oasis with others.

Nicolai Henckel purchased this villa in 2007

Why Nicolai Henckel chose Cagnes-sur-Mer

We fell in love with the village a long time ago, mostly because our family had been vacationing the village for many years. We first bought a house there in 2004, and we fast became intrigued by the charm of the architecture of the village. However, we wanted to have a house that could offer more outdoor living, and we were missing a swimming pool.

We then found Villa Adorable, and fell in love immediately. The house offers many spectacular things and hide aways. Villa Adorable is located on a hilly side, and therefore the grounds/garden spreads over 4 levels. The garden area is very beautiful and has many different settings, there is a fig tree, a clementine groves, olives trees, beautiful flowers and many other indescribable hidden treasures.

What makes this villa unique

Mostly because of the amazing garden the sea view and incredible charm of the house and the possibilities it offerers. The many levels the house and garden is located on, makes it very unique and cannot be described with proper words. Only experiencing this at first hand will get you closer to the uniqueness of our Villa Adorable.

Historic house with modern amenities

  • 5 of 5

Perfect for living out fantasies of mediterranean family life! We stayed for a reunion of family members from Turkey and the States. We all loved cooking at the outdoor kitchen and drinking wine on the terrace late into the evening. The neighborhood is quiet and the large terraced yard provides a backdrop reminiscent of centuries prior. The village of Haut de Cagnes boasts several scenic little restaurants and a castle/museum up the trail behind the property (the top is also a great place to catch a sunset over the sea!) Short drive to Nice and the other Cote d'Azur cities. The house is rambling and romantic, with lots of staircases. Very kid friendly, with baskets of toys in a large open sitting area and a secured pool. Well equipped with linens, reliable appliances, and cooking supplies; there's a cheap grocery store (Lidl, similar to Aldi) nearby. The coordinator, Eva, was helpful, speaks perfect English, and easy to contact with any questions.

Months later my kids are still talking about that house. It was perfect for our trip and we would love to return one day!

Charming rambling villa terracing down its own secret garden over five levels

  • 5 of 5

We had a family reunion over Christmas and New year in this charming villa., It is in an excellent location, close enough to walk to the lower village shops each morning yet private enough to feel like you were in the country.

Plenty of terraces to have late afternoon drinks in the warm winter sunshine, we were lucky with the weather. The heating was a little bit temperamental but you would expect that in such an old house, very warm in the lower house, perfect in the living / kitchen area and a little bit cooler in the Romeo and Juliet room with its own private balcony, however there were plenty of quilts and blankets to compensate, my daughters loved this room.

Anna the housekeeper was friendly and very helpful and was on hand immediately to sort out any issues. There are two access points to the property, ample car parking in the garage at the lower road level, but a bit of a trek up with bags to the house, there is higher level road which takes you to the mid level living areas but be warned its narrow with a hairpin bend and Australian drivers are used to bigger roads, so it's tricky.

This villa would be sensational during summer, with its pool and summer kitchen and recreation area, you would never want to leave.

In summary this is one of the most memorable holidays that we as a family have had and I believe a lot of that is due to this fantastic house.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the great description of the house, and thanks for all the great things you said about the house. I tell you its something very unique in the summer also. I will make sure that we address the issue with the heating, during the colder season, but the heat has to travel up 5 floors and that makes it very difficult to evenly distribute the heating out the all rooms. Especially since the house is so old. Let me know if we can be of help to you with any future travel arrangements and I will be more than happy to try an accommodate you. KR Nicolai H

Charming Stay in Haut de Cagnes!

  • 5 of 5

Our party of 8, 3 adults and 5 teenage kids, loved our stay in Haut de Cagnes. We arrived during the summer heat wave that hit Europe this summer. We could not have been more grateful for the refreshing pool! We stayed for 6 nights, and enjoyed outings to St Paul de Vence, Nice, and Monaco. The house was so lovely that we were often eager to cut our sightseeing short to return to the house to relax. We visited the daily market, covered and uncovered every day (I think Monday was the only day it was closed) each morning and returned with just baked croissants/bread and fresh provisions for snacks by the pool or dinner. We did enjoy two meals at the top of the village- the atmosphere was fantastic! The house is so lovely, and the gardens are delightful. I could not take one picture that captured the house and gardens- too many idyllic little spots to get in one shot! I should note that our stay in Cagnes was at the end of a two week trip that started in Paris; we arrived Nice via TGV. We did not rent a car; we relied on public transportation and it worked quite well. We did rent cabs to get from the train station (Nice) to the house. It was expensive (60 euros per cab) and they did not drop us off close to the house, claiming they could not access. I should have coordinated drop off better, we could have been dropped off at a parking lot just steps below the house and it would have made it hassle free. I visited the tourist office our first day and they provided timetables to get to all the spots we wished to reach, we took local buses and local trains. It worked out great but requires a bit of flexibility! Bottom line- this is a very special property and although a splurge for us, it is a stay we will always remember! Bonne Vacance!

We love it

  • 5 of 5

We stayed one week in Villa Adorable: the whole family with our four adult children and one baby. Everything was fine.

We've never had such a great location. The villa is wonderful and lovely decorated. The garden is marvelous, just like a green jungle with so many places to rest for a while. The pool with its largeness is great. With the pool and the Ping-pong we have had a lot of fun in the garden. And cooking in the summerkitchen and dining in the garden in the evening was very spectacular. The garden could be illuminated with many lights.

Haute Cagne is a beautiful medival village. A short walk in the evening and you find good restaurants on top of the village with a spectaculous view.

And the owner Nicolas Henkel ist very polite.

Thank you very much for this wonderful stay.

Villa Adoralbe, we love it!
