Lake View is set in the centre of the idyllic South Hams of Devon, surrounded by 28 acres of grounds, which vary from landscaped lawns and walled gardens to wild woodland and meadows. Add to this indoor and outdoor swimming pools, gym, tennis court, fishing lake and children’s play areas and you have the ingredients that create the perfect holiday.

Lake View commands the centre and left of Colmer House, an 18th Century Georgian building, lovingly renovated and restored to its former glory and now comprising a number of elegant, individual units. There are lovely views from its windows across the grounds to the lake; patio doors lead from the living room to a large patio with a balustrade wall.

Converted into a privately owned luxury apartment, Lake View offers the highest standards in comfort and practicality. The property offers two large double/twin bedrooms, a large well appointed bathroom complete with Jacuzzi bath, power shower and body jets and a well equipped kitchen/living room. The patio is private, south-west facing, sheltered and is furnished with an alfresco dining table, parasol, portable BBQ and sun loungers.

Accommodation: Ground Floor: Open Plan Lounge/Kitchen/Diner. First Floor: Master Bedroom with twin beds, which zip together to make a 6ft Super king bed (please specify requirements on booking). Bedroom 2 with double bed. Bathroom with Jacuzzi bath, power shower (with body jets), WC and washbasin.

We are Jennifer and Ben - a Canadian and a Brit living in Exeter. We met in Nepal several years ago and have been traveling the world together since!

We are both laid back, friendly and outgoing. When we aren't traveling, we both love to cook and bake, hike in Dartmoor, anything outdoorsy, go for a pint and spend time with friends.

When we first arrived on the grounds of Colmer Estate I was blown away. A little piece of heaven in Devon. The first thing I noticed is the incredible smell of the forest. The house itself had a huge sunny terrace to spend time on, and a great view to unwind and relax from the stresses of every day life.

Notes:
The excellent facilities of the Colmer estate are all free of charge and exclusively for the use of the Colmer guests. These include swimming pools, a tennis court, fishing lake, fitness suite and a walled garden with adventure playground and games room. The outdoor dolphin-shaped swimming pool is heated and maintained from the May spring bank holiday through the summer months and the indoor pool is heated all the year round. The fitness suite is equipped with rowing, walking and cycling machines, a sit up frame and a bench press with weights. 28 acres of private grounds include a mixture of grass lawns, woodland, wild flower meadows, a walled garden equipped with children’s play equipment and boules pitch. Coarse fishing is available on the private lake, which is stocked with large carp and golden rudd. Discounted temporary membership is available at the nearby Dartmouth Golf and Country Club including green fees and all their leisure facilities. Beach and pool towels not provided

Fabulous apartment with great facilities in beautiful area with loads to do!

We stayed as a family of 4 (2 kids aged 8 and 10) in October half-term. The apartment was great - had everything we needed. Shower and bath were excellent, apartment was lovely and warm, beds were comfy.

Kids used the pool every day and loved it. Grounds looked lovely but it was a bit wet for too much playing in the playground unfortunately. They enjoyed the soccer table though.

Loads to do in the area - we hiked on Dartmoor, visited the Princeton visitor centre (great dressing up opportunities), Dartmoor prison visitor centre, miniature pony centre (big hit), otter sanctuary (go at feeding time - everyone's favourite), Salcombe - boat across the water for lovely circular walk via Gala Rock for drinks, Bigbury beach and Burgh Island on the sea-tractor, cycle-ride from Okehampton to Lydford on the disused railway, pub in Lydford (Castle Inn) did the best food we had all holiday, kids managed to cycle the whole way there and back (even in the rain) - nice and flat. Shop at petrol station on the corner was a great resource. Food at Cali Inn was alright - bit over-priced but useful to have so close.

Situated in gorgeous grounds

We used the indoor pool mostly, as the weather was not quite hot enough for the outside pool.

It was a shame that we had pay to use a communal washing machine and dryer, as we went through a lot of towels using the pool. The apartment was lovely, however a little on the small side downstairs for a family of four. We enjoyed visiting all the surrounding places. The outdoor private space was ideal for catching the sun and enjoying a bbq.

Lovely quiet place to unwind

We had a lovely time using lake view as our base for exploring south Devon. We couldn't have needed more. Everything was provided, clean and comfortable. We got woken each morning by birds singing rather than traffic. All facilities on site were also great, pool was clean and good temperature although the outdoor would have been rather chilly! We would def come back as there is more to see and we wouldn't find a nicer place than Colver. Just remember to look in the draw of the coffee table for some information books! Thank you Elaine.

Fantastic holiday cottage

The cottage was much bigger than I was expecting, the prosecco and cream tea left for us was a nice treat. Normally stay with family but was nice to stay nearby for a change and the kids loved the tennis, swimming and playground, thanks for a lovely stay and we will come back

This is an area of dramatic cliff-top and coastal walks, hidden valleys, sweeping moors and quiet sandy coves to explore at your own pace.

Just a short walk away you will find the multi-award winning California County Inn which provides delicious meals. Also close to hand are excellent places to eat in the pubs at Avonwick, Ugborough and Moreleigh.

At California Cross there is a garage shop where you will find a wide range of essential groceries and a cash point ATM Machine.

We can guarantee that you won't get bored if you visit Lake View. In addition to the wonderful facilities that are available to our visitors on the Colmer Estate, we've put together a list of just some of the things to see and do in the locality.

It could be visiting one of the many National Trust properties, rambling one of the hundreds of trails, lazing on Blue Flag beaches, an easy back nine, followed by a trip to one of the many superb restaurants... or maybe a visit to Eden then something to keep the kids occupied?

With so much to do, sometimes you're just spoilt for choice. So here are some of our favourites:

The beach at Bigbury

Check tides in the local directory and plan your outing to fit in with high/low tides. When the tide is high there is still a lot of sand, but as it ebbs there are many exciting rockpools and vast expanses of superb sand. You also get to visit Burgh Island on the sea tractor!

The beach at Mill Bay

Opposite Salcombe, via East Portlemouth. There is a National Trust carpark, a good beach shop, and for the energetic a 30 minute walk across the fields takes you to the Gara Rock Hotel, where the views are stunning and the refreshments well worthwhile. Clowns entertain on Sunday afternoons and if you walk back via the coast (45 minutes) you won’t be disappointed. Alternatively have lunch at the Millbrook Inn South Pool then catch the little ferry over to Salcombe for a browse. Don’t miss the local pubs, chocolate factory and museum beneath the Tourist Information Centre in Salcombe.

The beach at South Sands

Next to Salcombe. Park at the hotel or at the National Trust carpark at Sharpitor Gardens where there is a superb picnic spot with a fantastic view, gardens reminiscent of the Mediterranean, and an interesting museum where children will spend some time doing the quiz and looking for Fred the friendly ghost in the children’s area through the secret door. You could hire canoes etc. at South Sands or catch the ferry boat to Salcombe, walking back along the coast lane – once again stunning views.

The Round Robin trip (Totnes-Dartmouth)

By boat, ferry, steam train and open-top double decker bus. You can pick this up at Totnes or Dartmouth – we find Totnes more convenient. You can take all day over this, stopping off en route, or nip around in about two hours. There is also a steam train from Buckfastleigh to Totnes with a vintage bus connection.

Morwhellham Quay

Combined with Buckfast Abbey (of Francis Drake fame) or Cotehele, a National Trust property suitable for dreaming swashbuckling youngsters.

The Aquarium in Plymouth

Not to be missed – ideal for a rainy day – very new and allegedly the best in the country. Close to the Mayflower Experience in the picturesque Barbican.

Dartmouth Castle

For young buccaneers. You can park up there or, if you are more energetic, you could park the car in the National Trust car park at Stoke, walk along the coastal path or track (shorter/easier at 25 minutes), visit the castle then take the ferry into Dartmouth.

The Visitor’s Centre at Princetown

Followed by a trip over Dartmoor (beautiful place) and antique shopping in Ashburton or white water rafting and other adventures at the Dart Country Park.

Mackerel fishing

From Dartmouth, Plymouth or Salcombe - that’s if you like cooking mackerel, as they are inclined to catch rather a lot!

Woodlands Theme Park and Pennywell

Perfect whole days out for children. Personally we would do our very best to avoid Trago Mills (with or without children) unless you have greater stamina than us and are all shopaholics who like ferreting for a good bargain, even when on holiday!!

We love to visit Coleton Fishacre (NT), the Dartington Arts Centre, the Reel Cinema in Kingsbridge, the Eden Project together with Lanhydrock and of course all the fantastic coastline walks.

Finally, pamper your taste buds

You should not be disappointed if you eat at the Ship at Ugborough, the Ship at Noss Mayo – and last, but by far the least, the Oyster Shack at Aveton Gifford . But no doubt you will find your own favourites!

Cancellations received 90 days or more before the start of the rental will be issued with a full refund of any fees paid, less a £50 administration charge. For cancellations received between 90 and 60 days, a full refund of any fees paid, less a £50 administration charge, will be issued only once the property is re-let for that same period; in the event that the property is not re-let for that same period, no refund will be issued. For cancellations received with less than 60 days’ notice, any fees paid are then forfeited and the hirer remains liable for the full balance; however, should the cottage be re-let, any sums paid will then be refunded less a charge to cover any shortfall and a £50 administration charge.

The security deposit may be forfeited in the event of damage, stains, breakages, missing items or significant additional cleaning.
