About this property

Sunrise Cottage, Manasota Key steps from the beach

Sunrise Cottage is located on the southern end of Manasota Key, just steps from the Gulf of Mexico. Less than a block away, Stump Pass State Park offers you a mile or more of undisturbed wildlife and beaches. The Sunrise Cottage provides all the comforts of home, with easy access to the beach. If you want to enjoy sunsets on the beach, fishing, shelling, hiking and swimming by day, and fun evenings at home or at one of the great local restaurants, then this cottage is for you. You can even rent a boat slip nearby for easy access to Lemon Bay or the ocean.

The kitchen is stocked with all the utensils you might want at the beach including a blender, microwave oven, and more. One bedroom has a queen-size bed, the second bedroom has two twin beds, and the living room has a sleeper sofa that can accommodate two more people. Everything will be fresh and comfortable for your stay.

Evenings at the beach can be spent star-gazing, or playing one of the many board games provided. Maybe you prefer karaoke at the local tiki bar, about a quarter of a mile up the beach. Or maybe your idea of a good time is watching a movie on the DVD player or VCR. Cable TV is included as well as internet access. The cottage has a great selection of books if you just want to browse our nonfiction selections or get lost in a novel.

Kick back on the screened lanai, or use our charcoal grill to serve home-cooked steak! Early mornings, you can listen to the sounds of the island waking up or go for a run on the quiet two-lane road. Trees shade the lanai with lush vegetation. An eagle nests in a nearby pine tree. Butterflies are attracted by the jasmine and other fragrant flowers in the yard. Turtle nests are protected on the beach and you will often find local citizens on “turtle patrol” safeguarding these special nesting grounds. Nature is at its best at this island retreat, and we have collected sharks teeth, shells, driftwood, and polished stones on each of our visits.

One of the best things about this cottage is it's location. It's a block from Stump Pass State Park. There are 265 acres of quiet walking trails and pristine beaches. Here you can find a section of beach all to yourself. Awesome wildlife abounds; you will see pelicans diving for fish, dolphins and manatee swimming along the shore, and sometimes schools of fish jumping. Sandpipers run up and down the beach as the tide recedes, and the breeze tickles your face as the waves lap at your toes.

Sunrise Cottage is a recently renovated duplex, and each unit is rented separately, with the one in the back called "Sunrise" and the one in the front called "Sunset." Each has its own entrance and lanai, and the furnishings are similar. Both are located at ground level, so there are no steps to climb. This makes it ideal for those who have trouble climbing steps, or for those with young children. It's a lot easier to come and go to the beach when you don't have to climb stairs.

If you have enjoyed Manasota Key before, you know it is a unique Florida beach, without high-rise hotels and fast food restaurants. It feels like the Florida of simpler times, and has only a two-lane road and no red-lights. This is the perfect place to get away from it all, to reconnect with family or friends, and to recharge your batteries. What a bargain, in a great location. Feel free to call for more information or more pictures.

Love this place!
My husband and I have stayed at Sunrise Cottage numerous times. It never disappoints! We love the rental so much that we invited family members to Sunset Cottage, the other half of this duplex. We love being just steps away from the beach. The neighborhood is so peaceful and safe; walkers, bikers, runners…happy folks enjoying the tranquility. Morning beach-yoga at Englewood Beach is an AMAZING way to start the day! We rented bikes for 10 days from Venice Bikes and Trikes. The bikes were the best cruisers we have ever had while renting bikes on vacation. They offered free delivery and pick-up; and that process was seamless! Those bikes were super-handy for cycling all over the island….from Stump Pass to Manasota Beach. A bike ride along Canopy Rd is a real treat! After a nice bike ride, you can’t beat lunch, a cold beverage, and listening to the live music at The Sandbar Grille!! My husband prepped dinners on the charcoal grill, which made for relaxing meals “at home”. We love the screen porch at Sunrise Cottage, and spent much time in the evenings there playing cards and dice games. The dice game of Farkle is on the shelf in the cottage: fun, laughs, and good family competition for all ages!! Can’t wait to return to make more great family memories!

Lovely cottage, with everything you need.
We stayed here in August 2023. It is a lovely cottage in second row to the beach, almost next to stumpass state park. It had everything we needed to enjoy our two week vacation on the key. The owner is very kind and answered all the questions we had, prior or during our stay. It really is less tahn a two minute walk to the beach. And the englewood key beach is the most beautifull we found so far on the florida gulf coast. A lot of shells and shark teeth too. And since the cottage is about half a mile south of the public beach, it never was crowded. It wasn't our last stay in Florida and we would live to stay here again. Sincerely Frank and family

Our family loves to spend time at the beach. It was a perfect place for our kids to learn the names for sea shells, to learn respect for the power of the ocean, to nurture the wildlife, and to test new skills like bike riding and skim boarding. Being able to relax with our family in one of two parts of the duplex, with our parents in the other, afforded us time together, as well as apart. We have our favorite hang-outs, as you will too. At night, you can choose to walk to a restaurant on the island, or venture a little further to the mainland. Or sometimes, we like to stay home, cook dinner on the grill, toast the sunset, and then watch an old video or play board games (how old school is that?).

We recently renovated and updated everything in both units of the duplex, and hope you will enjoy the all modern indoor comforts as well as the outdoor living. Our most recent passion is star gazing, which is awesome at this end of the beach, when all the lights are turned off during turtle nesting season. It is exciting to wake up in the morning and find new turtle nests on the beach, but those night time skies are also incredible.

Why they chose this property

We bought this property because the beach was quaint, and seemed to be untouched by the commercialism that has taken over many places. It reminded us of the visits we had to our grandparents' house in the 1950s on Ft. Myers Beach. We love the fact that you can still walk down the street barefooted, and chase the waves, but easily come home for a drink or a snack.

What makes this property unique

Our cottage is cozy and fun, but not pretentious. It really does make you feel like you are in a place out of time. We feel so relaxed and laid back here that we try new things, and relish our traditions. Since this house was built before beach properties were required to be built high above the ground, it was easy for us not to worry about the kids falling down steps, or for my older parents to have a hard time getting up to the house. Those are some of the reasons we chose this "Island Time" Cottage.
