Eating Out: Eating out is one of the great pleasures in Northern Cyprus and visitors will be spoilt for choice with the huge number of restaurants available, at least seven in the small village of Bellapais alone and hundreds more throughout the Kyrenia area. Turkish cuisine is always plentiful and inexpensive and an absolute 'must' to try, but there are plenty of English, Italian, Indian and Chinese restaurants too. Recommendations from both the owners and visitors will be found in the information pack left at the villa.

Flights and Car Hire: FLIGHTS. We can offer help with competitive car hire prices from our local car hire company. Please contact us if you need advice about flights and local attractions.

CAR HIRE. A car is essential as public transport is limited. We strongly recommend pre- booking your car. We can offer competitive rates, excellent service including free airport transfers and a wide range of vehicles. Your car will be delivered on your first morning when payment may be made in Sterling or Euros or with a debit or credit card. Please contact us for further details.

The local car hire company can provide a taxi service to local locations, and several restaurants offer free local pick up and drop off services.

Why Vivienne Laing chose Kyrenia Region

We visited Northern Cyprus in 2006, as a side trip from Istanbul for our daughters 16th birthday. After a brief trip to the Karpaz, we realised that this was a special place, with really friendly locals. Bellapais village was enchanting and Manzara villa views made an impression on us, similar to Lawrence Durrell, when he wrote the first few chapters of his book 'Bitter Lemons' (which is available to read in the Manzara Villa Library).

What makes this villa unique

Having a balcony with french windows and a view for every bedroom is a special design feature of Manzara. We have tried to furnish the villa using locally sourced fabrics and artifacts. The hammock on the lower balcony is a special treat available for an afternoon siesta:). The extensive garden, with many fragrant & colourful plants, combined with the large private 11mx5m pool which is not overlooked by any neighbours is a rare bonus feature.

There is a shaded garden table with seating for 8-10 next to the barbecue for al fresco dining. Additional tables and chairs are sited on the covered veranda (leading off from the dining room /sitting) giving additional cool eating areas with superb views: Ideal for sundowners and looking at the panorama of twinkling lights down to Kyrenia's harbour. This is a no smoking property. If smokers are visiting, then please ask them to smoke outside only. There is only one access lane via the barbecue to the pool, so the pool area can quite easily be sealed off from adventurous toddlers. August stay at Manzara

  • 5 of 5

We were delighted to find that Manzara looked even better than the photos on the website, because the garden has further matured and is full of greenery/scents/colour and very private. Given we were staying in late August, the pool became a vital accessory rather than a luxury! The position of the house is marvellous, with wide views from balconies on both the ground and upper floors, so breakfast and evening drinks were spent on different levels to enjoy the sunsets and the shade. We particularly liked the fact that this house felt like a family home rather than a holiday let, with correspondingly comprehensive equipment and a mini-library. Everything worked well and was in good condition. Barbara manages the property very well - she visited just the first morning which was perfect. The owners were also most helpful with their responses to emails before we left. The house is in a great location - it is much preferable to be in the hills of Bellapaix than down in the heat of Kyrenia, and it was astonishingly quiet - perhaps we were lucky that not many of the neighbours seemed to be there at the same time as us. Many of the historic sites were within an hour's drive or less and extremely interesting. And the local people are charming and very friendly. Different colour neighbouring cats visit occasionally, plus a hedgehog at night! If I am totally honest, I would say that the restaurants we tried in Bellapaix itself were rather touristy - with mainly English guests, but Kyrenia has a big choice and other local villages are easily reached by car. Buying local produce and eating in was a great pleasure anyway - and we used the BBQ. I should add that the village store is pretty good for most things, including delicious bread, charcoal, and watercooler bottles, and even cheaper than some of the larger supermarkets: the young owner was more than helpful. I only wish I had bought stamps from Barbara's shop (in the next door village) as I could not get them anywhere! As you can tell, we had a really enjoyable holiday, and a lot of that is due to the fact that this is a special, well-loved villa.

Wundervoller Urlaub

  • 5 of 5

Wedding celebrations!

  • 5 of 5

Myself, my new husband, our 2 children, my mother, my three aunts, my brother, his girlfriend and their baby spent a week in this fantastic villa as we were getting married in the very nearby Bellapais Abbey. We chose the villa as it absolutely fitted our needs. It is a 2 minute drive from the abbey itself, which can be seen out of the two front bedrooms balconies and from the road just outside the villa. You can walk from the villa but it is a very steep hill up and takes about 20 minutes. Taxis are very cheap however and the numbers for taxi companies can be found in the comprehensive information folder both hard copy and online. The villa is very child friendly with the pool area being able to be completely blocked off by the provided stair gate. The Tv Room is also a godsend for settling the little ones down with a wealth of DVDs and books. The rooms are all beautiful and clean and there are two lovely terraces at the back of the house, one on the ground floor and one on the top floor. There were 8 adults and three infants staying within the villa and yet there is so much room and so many different areas to sit that you never feel on top of each other. The owners and the management staff were so accommodating and easily contactable. The pool area is fantastic and the outdoor seating area was used a lot for nice lunches. There is a well equipt kitchen and a washing machine which comes in handy when you have babies! It really felt like a home from home. Taxi down to the harbour cost about £5 and is well worth the visit. I really recommend villa Manzara enough. We had a fantastic stay and a fantastic wedding at the Abbey.

Fantastic holiday

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the beautiful Manzara last week in Aug 2015 and we must say it exceeded our expectations. The whole house, gardens, pool etc were very clean and kept up to date.

It felt like a home from home. The local village with the monastery and restaurants made it difficult for us to leave the mountainside and venture into the hustle bustle of Kyrenia. Its a beautiful area and the weather was hitting 40s. Im sure we'll be back, highly recommended 10/10

Fantastic villa, great setting, super holiday.

  • 5 of 5

We spent a very enjoyable two weeks at the Manzara villa in August 2013. The villa was perfect for our two families of 10 in total (4 adults and 6 children aged 9-16 years). The children all had a fantastic time in the pool and chilled out in the TV room when temperatures were too hot outside. For the adults the villa was also excellent with plenty of space around the pool and on the balconies for relaxing. The upper balcony was particularly good with great views down to the coast. We spent many evenings chatting (while sipping wine and the excellent local beer 'Efes') and admiring the views and shooting stars from the upper balcony.

At lunchtime and most evenings we ate from the table adjacent to the pool and BBQ. The location of the outside table with shade provided by the floral canopy was great for eating and relaxing. Also being on the hillside meant that there was a welcome cooling breeze from time to time through the villa. The villa's location, a short 15min walk from Bellapais village and its ancient Abbey, is also a great plus point. The village shop was handy for topping up supplies and the village has a good selection of restaurants and bars. We particularly enjoyed the 'Bella Moon' which serves traditional Turkish food in a fantastic courtyard setting at quite reasonable prices.

As for days out, we enjoyed a trip to the Greek/Roman ruins at Salamis, seeing the baby Turtles on the nearby Alagadi beach and exploring the back-streets of Kyrenia (Girne). Our best day out was spent on a boat trip from Kyrenia harbour (Harbour Boat Tours - the one recommended in the extensive local information at the villa). The trip took us along the coast for swimming and snorkelling at several different locations and included an excellent lunch prepared by Musty - our captain - in the tiny galley kitchen. Fish, chicken, chips and an array of side dishes. More than even our hungry teenagers could eat. We had the boat to ourselves and thoroughly enjoyed the whole day.

Fantastic villa in a great setting which played a big part in a thoroughly enjoyable holiday from which we all have lasting and fond memories. So much so we are planning to return next year for more.

The Barnett and McConville families.

Xmas and New Years Holiday 2012

  • 5 of 5

Had a brilliant holiday at Manzara Villa during the xmas 2012 season. Rented the property for 9 days, along with my wife, parents, and sister and boyfriend. The villa was fantastic, clean, comfortable, free wifi and mobile phone, heating, etc. The only downside was that the weather was quite (unexpectedly) cool, so we were unable to use the pool (but did manage a dip in the Med one day). The villa had heaters and a fireplace and was perfectly cozy. Top picks for things to do:

- Dinner at Bellapais Gardens (£££) or Erol's (££), and lunch at the Abbey (£).

- Get a drive to Bunavente Castle (which is spectacular) and hike back to the Villa through and over the mountains (about 12km and fairly strenuous).

- Day trip to Golden Sands (2.5 hours drive each way) to see a marvellous beach.

- A day in Nicosia to see the fascinating Green Zone, UN peacekeepers, market shopping, etc.

The villa's owners helped to arrange pick up at Ercan airport and car hires in Bellapais... all was seamless.

Highly recommended!
