Overview

About the property

Secluded high quality cottage near Lulworth Cove

Little Glebe has been converted to a very high specification, and has been designed to provide superb cosy country accommodation for either four adults or a family. Solid oak has been used throughout to give a luxurious feel alongside high quality furnishings and fittings. There is central heating throughout. The property has its own courtyard and garden which ensures complete privacy from the main house. there is an additional small lawned garden There is a barbecue, table and chairs.

On the ground floor a spacious hallway and boot room gives plenty of room for outdoor clothes and muddy boots. The boot room also houses a washing machine.

There are two double bedrooms downstairs, each with an en-suite bathroom. Bedroom One has a shower and Bedroom Two has a bath with shower over. We thought a bath would be welcome after long coastal and country walks or if you have small children.

Bedroom One has two singles that can be converted into a king size – just tell us which you prefer before your stay. Bedroom two has a double bed.

Both rooms have private garden views.

On the first floor you will find a large open plan room with character beams and French windows that open onto endless country views across the fields. There is a well equipped modern galley kitchen with a dishwasher, fridge, cooker and microwave, as well as a dining area. The far end provides a cosy living area with a gorgeous warming log burner and a large TV, DVD player and music centre. Bring your own music, films and books or feel free to choose from the library we provide.

Little Glebe is fully centrally heated. Cotton bed linen and large fluffy towels are provided.

About Sue Hyde

We are Peter and Sue Hyde. Peter's family are local farmers who have lived and worked in this area for seven generations. we have two adult sons who both continue in farming and countryside vocations.

Sue Hyde purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Sue Hyde chose Winfrith Newburgh

Our lovely home in Winfrith Newburgh sits above the village in airy, secluded beech woods. We built Little Glebe to be a holiday home that could share this superb location, but also retain it's own sense of peace and privacy. Then we furnished it with soft coastal colours and natural oak throughout to make the inside feel really special!

In November 2017 we have added three new Velux windows upstairs to ensure greater headroom within the sloping eaves.

What makes this cottage unique

Little Glebe is an 'upside down' house, with two cosy en suite bedroom downstairs. This enables visitors to enjoy sweeping views across the surrounding countryside from the upstairs French windows.

Our sheep, hens and dogs complete the delightful rural environment, and deer, foxes, owls and badgers are regular, but shy nightime visitors.

Great Location & cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Little Gables. Location is ideal for walks around the area. Or you can drive to various seaside locations. The welcome pack and friendly welcome were lovely personal touches. The cottage was very warm and cosy. I would recommend

Great downstairs to this cottage - living & kitchen area a little "low".

  • 4 of 5

Great welcome and ongoing support from the owners during our stay. Some minor breakdowns (showerhead and WiFi) were dealt with very quickly and effectively. 10/10 for customer service. The only problem is that the main area has a sloping ceiling and, at 6-foot, it was impossible for me to wash up. I understand some more Dormer windows are going in this winter and so 2018 tall guests may be ok :-)

Owner's Response: Thank you Keith and Patsy for your kind review! We thoroughly enjoyed meeting you. Yes - you're right - six footers do have to be a little careful as the roof slopes down at the edge of the upstairs room... but we should stress that 90% of the upstairs has plenty of head clearance with a lovely 10 feet high oak beam structure. And thank you for mentioning the new Velux windows which are being fitted in November to ensure EVERYONE can share time at the sink!! Mind you - there's also a dishwasher, so you don't have to waste too much holiday time doing the washing up!!

Lovely cottage with welcoming hosts

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cottage. Sue and Peter make sure everything is ok. Highlights to see are durdle door and corfe castle. Also nice are tropical gardens in Abbotsbury and Sandworld in Weymouth. We could cook perfectly fine in the cottage, but there also are ample nice pubs nearby. Tearooms in Moreton highly recommended for cake, scones or lunch! We had a wonderful time!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to leave such a lovely review. Good old Moreton Tea Rooms - always a brilliant choice... and then you can walk down to the river past the beautiful church with astonishing engraved windows by James Whistler...

Comfortable, stylish and full of useful and homely touches.

  • 5 of 5

We had another wonderful week staying in Little Glebe. With, mostly, great weather we were able to explore new beaches and National Trust properties. The park in Dorchester is fun, with plenty of nearby tea rooms for mum and dad. We're still on the lookout for great fish and chips. We would highly recommend Dorset in general and Little Glebe in particular. Sue and Pete are excellent, welcoming hosts.

Car: recommended

Winfrith Newburgh is just two miles from Lulworth Cove on the stunning World Heritage Jurassic coastline and South West coast path. It is nine miles from the county town of Dorchester and 18 miles from the more bustling conurbations of Poole and Bournemouth. There is a friendly local post office/village store and three pubs nearby. If the weather’s good you may not get further than the local coastline and beaches, but then you’d miss out on other fabulous locations such as Corfe Castle, the Cerne Abbas Giant, the Tank Museum, Monkey World, the Blue Pool, Swanage Railway, Sherborne Abbey, Portland Bill and many others…
