Description

Stables cottage

Set in a wildlife garden with panoramic views across the Eden Valley

Stables Cottage, is one of four unique cottages nestling at the foot of Cross Fell, with panoramic views across the lush Eden Valley to the Lake District Fells beyond. The informal wildlife gardens surrounding the cottage are a haven for rabbits, badgers and red squirrels. They are host to dozens of species of migrant and resident birds including woodpeckers, tree creepers and nuthatches, whilst the Fells above us are home to skylarks, curlews, buzzards and peregrine falcons.

The cottage was sympathetically created from a range of ancient stone farm buildings retaining many original features such as beamed ceilings and exposed stonework. All the cottages were refurbished in 2010 with English Oak floors and new bathrooms and all have gas central heating as well as large wood-burning stoves/open fires.

The double arched doorway and internal porch, lead into the open plan ground floor with a lounge area with a large wood-burning stove, a well equipped farmhouse kitchen and a dining area with French doors opening onto the extensive wildlife gardens. Upstairs the cottage has 1 double bedroom, 1 twin bedroom and a bathroom with a bath & shower.

About the property

Kirkland Hall Cottages

Our self catering cottages have featured in Country Living Magazine's 'Great Escapes'. They are comfortable, well furnished and are maintained to the highest standards by the resident owners.

Each cottage was created from a range of ancient stone barns, a project which was voted 'the best barn conversion in the North of England'. All cottages have large wood burning stoves as well as gas central heating for that cosy night in by the fire.

The large informal gardens and pastures surrounding our holiday cottages are a haven for rabbits, badgers and red squirrels. They are host to dozens of species of migrant and resident birds including woodpeckers, tree creepers and nuthatches, whilst the Fells above us are home to skylarks, curlews, buzzards and peregrine falcons.

Property was great and provided an absolutely top quality environment

  • 4 of 5

Set within beautiful scenery with a garden which was also beautiful, spacious and allowed our children plenty of room to play and wander freely. A lovely quiet, restful and private environment that promoted a relaxing holiday atmosphere. The cottage was spacious, of a very high standard, very clean and was beautifully furnished with more than adequate bedding, utensils etc. The only drawback was the poor wi-fi that was not accessible in the cottage but in the garden?? This had some impact on the use of our phones and ipads for the kids if it was later in the evening or the weather was wet. We also came accross information provided in a general information file about the cottage that we found to be very unusual and out of contex with our experience by requesting guests either clean the cottage themselves before leaving or leave money to pay towards the cleaning of the cottage??

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review and I'm sorry you had a problem with our Wi-Fi. Each of the cottages has it's own range extender, which boosts the signal into that cottage. When you search for a connection you will see that there are 5 of them and each has the name of the cottage after it. To get the best reception, you have to log onto the correct cottage which in your case would have been KIRKLANDNET/STABLES, and that would have given you a download speed of up to 35 Mb/s & an upload speed of around 12Mb/s. I suspect you were logged onto the cottage next door which would explain the lack of signal indoors. However, we are just next door so all you needed to do was ring the bell & I could have sorted it out for you. Ian

Exzellente, gemütliche, gepflegte Unterkunft in tollem Cottage.

  • 5 of 5

The Lake District Fells and panoramic views of the Eden Valley are the backdrop to our exclusive self catering holiday cottages. The cottages nestle in an area designated an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' the foothills of the North Pennines, home to some of the rarest plants and wildlife in Britain.

Cumbria and the Lake District is renowned for it's wild and stunning landscapes. There are beautiful lakes like Ullswater, Buttermere and Coniston to the south, with the lush Eden Valley and the rolling North Pennines as its eastern boundary.

A network of footpaths starts right outside your holiday cottage door. You can wander just 100 yds up the track to experience the tranquillity and freedom of the open Cumbrian fells (hills). The more energetic can make for the top of Cross Fell for spectacular views of the Eden Valley and the Lake District fells.

If you want to get away from it all, explore some amazing landscapes, do a few walks, visit some traditional pubs or just relax in front of an open fire, our cottages are just what you need.

The cottages are the perfect base for walkers, cyclists and motorists, exploring not only Cumbria and the Lake District National Park, but also the Yorkshire Dales, Northumbria, County Durham and the Scottish Borders.
